So hello there erm....I'm doing this sketch of a dragon I made up....yeah. I just started and I'd love to know what some really good artists have to say. I mean even if you don't do a lot of art it'd still be nice to know! This is one of my first sketches like this(with the skull). I know it's not great but please don't steal. I do this for my own enjoyment and I'd hate to see it somewhere else.

(This isn't FR stuff...but I thought this would be a better place to put it. If there is something wrong with doing this please just leave a message and I'll delete it.)
Probably should have cleaned the eraser shavings off before I took the picture though lol sorry
P.S. I realize the scales are horrid(I hate doing scales with a passion but I decided this one needed them*sigh*)

Are you looking for suggestions on any particular part of it? Since we can only see parts of the face so far it's hard to say much just yet, but it looks promising! :)

Since it's a fantasy animal I don't think there's a lot you can do wrong, it's your design :) I look forward to seeing the updated version!

I'm not a really good artist, but would you mind if I add some critique? Will come back latter because I'm meant to do homework right now, haha.

Alright, now that there's more added to it, I can say a bit more :D

I like the area around the eye especially, you've done a good job at adding depth there and making it look 3D. You can, in the future and if you want, experiment with using the scales (eg on the neck) to give the impression of depth and shape by adjusting the size and shape of the scales in different areas. Here's an example: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/92/c8/fc/92c8fc762fd4c91f9aea65531521bf2f.jpg
If you look at for instance the lower jaw or the neck, you can see this method in action.

You can also experiment with adding more depth to the mane by drawing in more strangs of hair, rather than just doing the outline.

Good luck!

@galleytrotter
Yeah I definitely need to start doing that lol. The neck and mane were just kind of last minute things because I had nothing else to do at the moment. And yeah that Dino sketch is definitely helpful so thanks for that

@Crystalwww

This looks really cool so far!

As for critiques, the mane is pretty simple compared to everything else. It would be a good idea to look at horse manes for inspiration/reference on how the hair would grow.

The horn/antler on the back of his head looks too thin to me too. It would need to be thicker and sturdier to be useful in battle.

You might also want to darken the bottom of the neck and face to add a little more depth and shading. It isn't 100% necessary, though.

@AboveClouds
I agree with you in that. I'll definitely look at some horse manes. Thank you

Hmm I might do that later

It's as dark as I could get it so I'll make some places lighter
