Nixie, there should be some plant matter you can eat in that chest over there. I can't gather anything right now. I... need to think." Kain had never thought she'd see one of the dragons who she had met so soon. Hawthorne was always the enigma of the Others, the one that rarely spoke and never let her see him once. Of course, the other dragon who had trapped him in the ice had also been an enigma, it seemed. Stepping into Kain's home, Hawthorne frowned. "Cluttered," he mused, shrugging. "Hoarding issue." "Not hoarding. I need this stuff for my work, or for studies. You never did like hoards, did you?" Kain laughed lightly, though it was forced. She rubbed her head, freezing. "Fiver. He's meant to be coming over soon, isn't he?" "But it's the middle of the day. He has classes, doesn't he?" Salo asked, slowly making his way inside after making sure the coast was clear. Kain relaxed, hopping on her bed and curling up. "I have to be off. Micah can't be alone for long... I have to make sure that the back way out is open, or else they'll see she was leaving my home and..." Kain smiled sadly. Hopefully, Ray wouldn't find out about that. He despised his enemy flights, even the ones among his own clan. Gods, how she missed the days of the old clan leaders, before they left. Before they went to serve the Lightweaver. That was a calmer time. Silently, Hawthorne found a place to sit, flicking his ears. Along the trip, a little creature had caught up with them- Hawthorne's familiar, still alive after possibly hundreds of years. Shockingly, Kain wasn't surprised by his arrival. Maybe it was simply because Hawthorne had been strange enough. "You two rest. I'll discuss with you our situation afterwards," Hawthorne grunted, stretching his tiny wings out as Nixie curled up on the spare bed in the room, usually saved for patients. She couldn't sleep in the swamp tonight. Not after that. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "Focus, Fiver." The Spiral blinked, lifting his head up and looking around at the other students of his school. Rayya was silent, the eldest dragon in the class focused on listening to the lecture. Of course, she had higher standards than the rest of them. After all, she'd be wife of the heir to the clan, wouldn't she? Corvus, thankfully, wasn't in this class to get on the Arcane Spiral's nerves. He was so... straightforward. He questioned things, he was smart, but he didn't seem to pursue anything. Maybe it was the fact that Fiver was an Arcane born dragon. The epitome of curious. "Y-yes, Mr. Dorato," Fiver replied, curling his lower body up tightly as he looked back at his book. He held his hat close, glancing over at Rayya. He snapped his head back. She had been looking at him. Her gaze had been... gods, he didn't even know! Judging? Inspecting? Whatever it was, it made him uneasy. Slowly, Fiver returned to listening to the lecture by the other Spiral. At least he'd be able to return to his studies with Kain soon. He missed those. Moving quickly, Fiver wound his way through the school halls, flying quickly as he stretched his body out fully. It felt nice that the school day was ending. What didn't feel nice was how he felt like, once again, someone was watching him. Was Rayya following him? He slowed, turning around and tilting his head. "Fiver," Rayya said calmly, slowing down and stretching her arms out. The Spiral wound himself up in a coil, relaxing and blinking as Rayya smirked a bit. "Don't show off." "I'm... not?" he said, though after a moment, he blinked, glancing at his coiled up body. "Oh... that was a joke." "Don't worry about it. Anyway, you dropped this in Dorato's history class," Rayya replied, grabbing a book from her bag and passing it to Fiver. About to thank her, Fiver stopped, inspecting the cover. "Rayya, this isn't-" He looked up, mouth wide open as he simply heard the fading footsteps of the Wildclaw. Fiver wasn't stupid. He knew for a fact that Rayya wouldn't have just given Fiver a book that wasn't his. Looking back down, Fiver turned the book on its side, reading the cover. "Power Of The... Gods?" That was odd. Was it a fantasy book, then? He glanced around the halls. Slowly, the Spiral made his way outside once more. He'd have to wait to go to Kain's home. This was important, he just knew it. It took a few minutes to find a quiet place to rest, but after a moment, he was able to sit. Slowly, he opened the book, blinking at some of the drawings. That was... quite odd. "Some dragons have been known to be born with... eyes more unusual than those of the multi-gaze or glowing eyes. Known as Primals, these dragons have been rumored to harbor more magical abilities than those of their normal clanmates," Fiver whispered to himself, inspecting the images. A Wildclaw with lightning crackling from their eyes, a Mirror with multiple, infected looking eyes across their forehead, a spiral with dark slime flowing from their eyes into nowhere. Fiver frowned. He flipped through the book, reading quickly. Whatever this was, he was sure it was banned. Rayya wouldn't have given it to him in secret if it wasn't, and unlike Corvus, she didn't feel the need to prank him. She said it was pointless and gained her nothing. She was all about gaining something from what she did, after all. What did she gain from this? As he read the book, Fiver blinked, looking at the pages. Something was off. There was a slight blueish glow every so often, wavering in intensity. "That's. MINE!" a voice snarled. "Did Hawthorne do this?" Fiver looked up, face to face with a dragon that until now, he never knew was even possible. A nocturne with lightning sparking from her eyes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fiver dropped the book as he shot back, yelping as the Nocturne made her way forward and snatched it. She sat down, inspecting the pages with an odd gentleness, and blowing out a large breath. Somehow, she could see him. Somehow she had seen him, despite her eyes being surrounded by lightning. "You didn't answer my question. Did Hawthorne-?" she began, but Fiver, coiled up like a Ball Python, shook his head. "I don't know who Hawthorne is!" he whimpered, his youth showing. The dragoness frowned, approaching Fiver as his whining grew louder. "Be quiet, I won't hurt ya," she mumbled, pulling Fiver out of his ball so she could look him in the eye. Fiver flinched. It was so bright, how did others hold a conversation with her. "Didn't think I'd ever get out of that hellhole. Blasted Hawthorne, gave away our location." She cursed under her breath, dropping Fiver as the Spiral rubbed his eyes. She looked down at him. "Nacht." "Fi-Fiver," Fiver stammered, watching the Nocturne. "You... own the book?" "I'm its guardian. My mate helped me gain a connection to it, since it's one of my prized possessions. If the book is destroyed, I'll know. I know where it is. It's not a nice feeling to be trapped in a wall of earth for who knows how long but know your book is being passed around, yearning to get back a family heirloom but being unable to move," Nacht explained, looking around. "The world's changed since I last saw it." Standing once more, Fiver watched Nacht. He was slowly backing up. He had to get to Kain, to explain everything. "I can see you still, you know. And we're not leaving until I can find a place to get caught up with the world. I'm looking for a 'Kain.' We spoke a lot when she was younger, though I've left most of the speaking to my mate apparently. Know her?" Fiver froze. Kain... had mentioned this before, hadn't she? No one had believed her, had they? And yet here was the proof. The proof that Kain could speak to those 'Others' as she called them. The proof that they existed. "I... was going to see her right now, in fact," Fiver said. Nacht perked up. "Lead the way, kid. And don't try and grab for the book again. You already almost tore one of the pages," she mumbled, following Fiver. For once, Fiver was afraid to see Kain.
