Wow, I totally spaced checking in on the site during November. Eep.

But I remembered today, so I came to start a NaNoWriMo wrap-up thread. How did everyone make out, be it with NaNoWriMo, or your personal goals or surviving life in general?

*waves to all the dragon writers!*

This'll be my last thread for a while. Don't know if/when I'll be back by the site again. I know @Galaxtea was thinking about running the threads, though, so there may be a future for the DW chat tradition. n_n

General Introduction

In Nanowrimo 2013, Micahjaguar started a writers' chat thread in the Wind forum. After Micah and I left Wind, we created a writers' chat in the Creative Corner every month until we went on hiatus from FR in April 2019. We wanted to (a) meet new writers! and (b) keep in touch with all our Windy friends. (Hi Windies! We still love you all!)

Some purposes for this thread:
 • Talk excitedly about your current awesome writing project!
 • Whinge about your current project which no longer seems so awesome and you don't want to work on it any more but YOU WILL anyway. Because REASONS.
 • Show off snippets of your writing
 • Cheer your fellow writers on as they write!
 • Commiserate with your fellow writers as they complain about not writing, or about not being happy with their writing
 • Ask other participants to pick one of your dragons for you to write something about in the dragon's bio
 • Show off dragon bios
 • Admire one another's dragons and new hatchlings from time to time (because this IS Flight Rising)
 • Any other writerly activities you want to chat about

"Dragon Writers" is a reference to this being a chat on a dragon site; there is no requirement that you write about dragons in order to participate. (Okay, there really aren't any requirements at all).

This is intended to be a general chat thread and not a critique group. Now, it's absolutely fine for a writer to post a link to their work and ask people for feedback and/or criticism! But it's also fine for people to post bits of their writing just to show off and with no desire to have it critiqued. And it's fine if you participate in the thread without ever sharing anything you write, or giving feedback on anyone else's writing.

Unless a writer solicits critiques, please only respond to their writing with supportive comments (or don't respond at all).

Also, this is a chat thread: we're here to interact with one another as writers. Showing up to say 'I haven't read any of the previous messages and am completely ignoring any conversations going on. Please come to my thread/read my writing' is unlikely to work out well for you.

I won NaNoWriMo on 11/29, with 50,033 words, and then wrote no fiction at all the 30th to celebrate.

November was WACKY for me, because I attended a local convention from 11/8-10, and had a no-writing vacation scheduled for 11/20-25. I ended up doing 70% of my writing on just 11 days. I much prefer it when my schedule allows me to finish earlier in the month, but hey, it worked out. I finished Spark of Desire and continued with The Lord, His Monster, and Their Lady, both polyamorous fantasy romances, albeit in different settings.

For December, I'm planning to get the rest of my life back together after ignoring a bunch of things in order to win NaNo and do socializing at the same time. o_o;;; Will also do some editing on The Twilight Etherium and continue writing The Lord, His Monster, and Their Lady. But might rest on my laurels with winning NaNo for another day or two first. Phew.

Yo, it's me again, I came back.
Update on the RPG thing, IT HAS A NAME. it has a dedicated, made by me ROLLING BOX, and I have PLANS.

The first session went amazing! Everybody had fun, and our next session is being planned! (Even if sess 1 was cut short here, that's okay, the wife and mother of two of my players was really tired, so we halved the game.) But AMAZING NONE THE LESS

@Galaxtea Please keep up the thread! @LadyRowyn Will miss you. But I have your hatchling and her familiar, who she named 'Rowyn' to remember you by. Thank you for the lovely times! I completely failed nano this year, even worse than last year. However, I won't give up; I plan on editing my nano project's finished prequel during December and January, and hopefully will be able to post it soon-ish.

@LadyRowyn Congrats on winning nano, and in so few days! Also, did someone say polyamory? Seriously, The Lord, his Monster, and their Lady sounds awesome! I would totally read it!

@KallyPaige Yo, congrats on the success of your RPG!

@Emberglo Ooh, she's pretty! :o

I was going to use NaNo to continue working on my novel revisions, but ended up accidentally using it to write the equivalent of an D&D AU fanfic with a fellow party member (that has since turned into its own original thing with characters only loosely based off our D&D characters).

We started halfway through November and ended up with roughly 66,000 words written between us (and we're still going strong).

On one hand, I really should get back to my novel XD
On the other hand, I'm having an absolute blast writing this with my friend!

Since I didn't check in at all in November, I figured I'd catch up on last month's thread at the same time that replied to the new posts from this month. :) Link to previous thread: https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/cc/2773344/

@The13Inquisitor I hope the new job is still going well! And that your character lives despite your dice. ????

@Isyrii Congrats on your previous Nano victories! How did this year go?

@KallyPaige I am glad to hear you got your campaign off the ground! I have always found this time of the year to be the toughest for starting a new game, because everyone is so busy with holiday things.

The campaign theme sounds super fun!

@Issalyn How did NaLoWriMo end up for you? Did you get some more lore written? Or finish fleshing out your WoW character's backstory?

@VioletWhirlwind Yay for trying NaNo again! How much did you get written?

@Uyi How did your plans to write a piece every day in November go? It sounds like a great way to celebrate NaNo. n_n

@Kestrad What did you decide to do for NaNo? Did you go with Nuzlocke and actually clear out your lair for it?

@Petall Yeah, November is an awkward time for the challenge for a lot of people, what with the holidays and all. How did university go?

@Galaxtea Let me encourage you to run the thread in January! This will be my last one for the forseeable future.

Congrats on the move to Earth! They're a lovely flight, so mellow.

@Nightlilac I've won Nano five times now, and I've never both started and finished a novel in a month. My novels are mostly in the 90-120k range, and that's more than I can manage in 30 days. If you write 50k in a month, that's officially Good Enough for NaNoWriMo.

Your creepy sinister dream concept is intriguing! I like the friends-in-opposition idea, though I feel bad for Val already. *pats her*

@AloneTogether So did you end up focusing on a novel for NaNo, or working on lore? n_n

@myriadofstars Yay for not giving up! Did you get the outline written for your story? I find it so much easier to write once I have the whole story in place.

The Lord, His Monster and Their Lady is a standalone sequel to The Princess, Her Dragon, and Their Prince -- it's in the same setting but with new protagonists and a new standalone story. Princess was also a polyamorous romance.

My first polyam romance, A Rational Arrangement, was enormous and put me off from writing a polyam book with new characters for quite a while. But I decided to start doing them again last year and I haven't written anything but polyamorous romances since. :D It's really my favorite genre.

@MischiefSabre You had a lot of ambivalence at the start of November! How did writing and school go? What ended up getting the most time?

It doesn't really get easier to find the time to write when you're out of college. But writing does get easier the more you practice at it, so there's an "easier as you get older" aspect. n_n

@micahjaguar December is an excellent time for holidaying! So is November, for that matter. So much holidaying. n_n

Also, five books is SO MANY. I've only finished two!

@KrazKitCat You have a lot of material to work with on your clan lore! The cult to Gladekeeper and Plaguebringer is nice pairing of opposites. How did writing it go in November?

@Pachirisu Good work, outsmarting your brain! I thought I really wanted to draw towards the end of NaNoWriMo, but of course I haven't even opened my tablet since I won it. Heh. How did lore and drawing go? Do you have any pictures to share? *chinhands*

@ShanHaddock Hee, I remember that feeling. In 2016 I wrote 70k for NaNoWritMo. Since then, though, I have contented myself with 50k-ish. How did your 70k goal go? Did you make it? Did you overshoot?

@CanisLupus03 I hope you had fun doing Nanowrimo again! How did it go? What stuff did you end up writing?

@Naufragate I find writing MUCH easier if I plan ahead! Even if I don't exactly follow my plans. How did continuing your story go?

@KenjiSnow My Nano got kind of sloggy in places, but I kept a pretty good attitude overall throughout. Not as excited as I was on the first three days, granted.

Did you write up your D&D campaign? I am curious how much it will differ from actually playing it!

@CrypticGirl Woo rewrite! Sorry to hear you ran our of juice a week in. Did you pick up again later? Are you happier with what you did rewrite?

@Bananyan Congrats on getting back to writing! Did you manage to get some writing done every day last month?

@puffbird Modified Nano is excellent plan!

I'm always kind of impressed by the "write at least X words every day" model because even when I write 50k in a month, I never actually write some fiction *every day*. Inevitably I miss some days.

@velvetpaws Finishing a novel in seven months is pretty great! The first two first drafts of books I finished all took me 2+ years, and the third one was almost a full year. Plus endless time in revisions. o_o How is your exchange fic going?

@Polymorphus Aww, Artflex is a cutie. And I totally know that feel of falling in love with characters from a story you never planned to do anything with and now you have to figure out how to make sense of all the needed backstory. XD0

And your veined boi is gorgeous what a perfect tert for it!

@Lawful Woo for progress! How long do you think the final story will be?

@Rexcaliburr Did you win NaNo? You posted about being at 29k on the 15th, so I'm sure you had a great month of writing regardless.

@paintminion Aww, new jobs are rough. I hope you managed to get back in the groove before the end of November!

@Merahunt Yay new fanfic! Did you start the second chapter yet?

@LaraAelric Writing about roleplay characters with a friend is so much fun! It's good practice, too. And I am sure you'll get back to writing your novel in due course.

@Emberglo Aww, I am so glad to hear that one of the babies from my lair has a permanent place and her story continues. <3

@LadyRowyn I didn't get the outline written, but I did manage to put at least most of the major scenes in order, which will (hopefully) make things a lot easier.

Oh, the first one sounds really cool – the one with a dragon! Is it published? If so, I would be very interested in reading. Anything with dragons is awesome!

@LaraAelric Hey, fanfics are always fun! I've never tried writing with another person, but I can imagine it would be really fun, especially if you work really well with the other person.

@myriadofstars Oh yes, the first one is out! I'd meant to give the link: The Princess, Her Dragon, and Their Prince. It's even dscounted to $2,99 on Amazon at the moment, for Cyber Monday. (The discount to $2.99 will hit other sites when it's actually Monday, but Amazon doesn't let me schedule a price change so the start point for them is kind of random.) And here's the cover art, for fun:
