TOPIC | Advice on charging specialities for art?
Hello! I've had a "free drawing" forum open for a little while now for me to get some practice in before opening commissions (and I'm still currently working through it), but I'd love to hear the opinions of anyone who is/was taking commissions, or knows how the process works! I've seen a few cases where artists ask for genes/familiars/scrolls/etc instead of coins or gems, and I'm wondering if that would be a more ideal way of running things, or if I should just stick with the more traditional methods? I'm not sure of the pricing process either way, but I'm even more unsure of what the worth of a gene would be in terms of payment. For example, would it be appropriate for a fully rendered bust? Or would it be worth a lower tier - let's say, a flat colour piece? Or maybe it would be worth more, like a half body? This probably isn't the most enthralling read, but advice would be greatly appreciated! Here are a few examples of my warm-ups from the practice forum:

I normally go by what size and how much time I've put in, or just a set amount for each in the tradition currencies. I've also been looking at your art and would really like a couple drawn...

It really really depends on the item
Plentiful breed scrolls are relatively cheap (around 50g last time I checked)
Coli genes are super cheap rn (not sure for skeletal though.)
Wild claw scrolls are 2kg at gem marketplace and probably have gone up since then
Most gem genes in general are pricy (500g and up)
You can choose to go this route for payment (I've seen some artists do this) or you can go the t/g route it's all up you!
Hope this helps!

Hmm, I'll probably try to find the average amount of time I tend to put into each piece and work from there, then!
I'm also super flattered that you're thinking of getting some of your dragons drawn! :D
I currently have a ping-list with a few names of people who've said they'd be interested, just let me know if you'd like to be added!

@TheMorningStar01

Thank you so much!! You're absolutely right about it depending on the item - I'll set some time aside to do a little more research on what the items I'm looking the most for are worth, thank you again for such a lovely answer! :D
