lore and backstory

How the empire came to be
My boredom just kidding of course I’m going to give you the lore version.
So, Harpy was born into a village with her twin sister, Lavender, as daughter of the Emperor and rightful heir to the throne. She grew up alongside Lavender, who had equal rights to the throne (seeing as they were twins). One day, their father mysteriously died without naming one of his daughters as empress, so the two sisters gathered followers and waged a war. At the end, they had lost too many dragons to go on, and agreed to leave and start their own empires. None of the dragons from the original empire, known as the Great Empire of the East, wanted to follow them except for their mates.
And so, Harpy traveled the land and gained followers elsewhere, and from those dragons she build the Great Empire of the North. It has grown tremendously since then, and she has since made peace with her sister. Everything was going very well... until the sixth generation was born.
It was Shale who first noticed the empire getting crowded, and so Harpy decided to call upon the traditions of her old empire. Once they had grown up, the sixth generation would move on and build themselves a new village. The day arrives, and so the journey begins...
Strange cases of interesting dragons
Ash- Ash was born to two dragons from the first generation who weren’t married, and he was born as a member of the second generation while the third generation was being born. His mother smuggled him away to Lavender’s empire, where he is now happily married.
Ghost- Ghost was born deaf, or as the dragons call it, sound-blind. Her brother, Comet, and their friend (her future mate) created a way to communicate through gestures (essentially sign language). This helped greatly when a dragon in Lavender’s empire lost her hearing.
Jupiter and Moon- Moon was a traveler who visited the empire with her parents. Jupiter, a dragon born and raised in the empire, fell in love with her and decided to leave and become a traveler with her. They now have a daughter named Galaxy.
Clover- Clover’s egg hadn’t done well. Dreamer, the Eagle Village’s most gifted healer, was certain it wouldn’t make it. She had done everything in her power, and watched it day and night. When the other eggs in the hatchery hatched and his didn’t, Dreamer’s worst fears were confirmed- that is, until the Sun Spirit appeared. None of the dragons could see him, but he worked his magic and blessed the sickly egg. Clover hatched happy and healthy, and is gifted with the ability to pass between the mortal and spirit realms.
Out of boredom he traveled to the spirit realm once, thus discovering his power, and met a group of wyverns. They gave him a wyvern name and welcomed him as an honorary member of their flock, after they heard the tale of how the Sun Spirit blessed him. Wyvern names are more of sounds than words, as is their language, but it roughly translates to “Blessing of the Sun.”
Oracles
Alright, I know I’ve mentioned this a few times above, and your probably wondering “what’s an Oracle? Why are they so special?” And here’s the moment you’ve been waiting for.
Oracles are born regular dragons, but they have an unusually strong connection with their ancestors. They often hear voices belonging to their predecessors in their head, and the stronger ones can sometimes see these spirits. An Oracle can only be descended from the previous one, and only appear every few generations. The ones in this empire are all descended from Harpy, who’s grandfather was an Oracle.
The Six Spirits
The dragons (in this world that I’ve created, at least) believe that six spirits created the world and all the creatures on it. Each of the spirits has an opposite to balance it out. Many legends, some true and some mere traveler tales, involve these spirits.
The Sun Spirit is the spiritual form of the Sun and Day. He is also known as the Wyvern King. He alone created the wyvern species, and they are all born with the ability to pass between the mortal and spirit realms at will. When seen in both realms, he takes the form of a golden wyvern.
The Moon Spirit is the spiritual form of the Moon and Night. She is also known as the Purple Hawk, as that is the form she takes in both realms. She is the focus of one of the most well-known legends, known as the Legend of the Purple Hawk, and is revered for her wish-granting magic.
The Earth Spirit is the spiritual form of all the land in the world. She has two heads, and is known for her knowledge and wisdom. It is rare to forge a connection with this spirit, let alone see her. She takes the form of a two-headed, wingless dragon, the lack of wings being a symbol of her connection to the earth.
The Ocean Spirit is the spiritual form of all the water in the world. He takes the form of a sea serpent, and is the subject of many fisherman’s tales. Although sea serpents themselves enjoy fish, he does not need to eat, so many of these stories are false sightings.
The Spirit of Life is life itself. He played a role in creating all living species in the world except wyverns. He takes the form of a standard western dragon that is pure white, and does not forge connections with many dragons. He certainly does not give blessings to any mortals, as he sees them all as his creatures. Their life on its own is his blessing.
The Spirit of Death is death itself. She exists to balance out Life, and is the subject of many a ghost story. She also refrains from making connections with most dragons, and cannot give blessings, only curses. Like her twin spirit, she takes the form of a standard western dragon, but pure black.
