I have a very random question I need to ask because it’s eating me up inside [emoji=sunglasses size=1] Is it okay to take a character from a specific media you like and incorporate them into the world of your oc // put them into a different storyline? (Of course; without claiming the character to be your creation because they’re obviously not) For example I’ll use Harry Potter, you take the exact character (personality, abilities, etc) except in your story (a story that’s not aiming to make a profit either; just one you have in your head) he’s in the universe you did create. He’ll be a 24 year old constantly tired detective who is researching magic within the city of New York who also interacts with an OC of yours Is that okay to do?

I think it would be as long as, like you said, you are giving credit to the original creator and not making any profit off of it. I think that keeps you from getting copyright issues- but don't quote me on it, I'm no expert.

@Zephyr735 Thanks for responding! Yeah I really know nothing about copyright sooo, besides it’s not even a thing that I would post about or make public. It’s more so of a personal story that I’ll write about//draw things on per my own entertainment in which it’ll never see the light of day, y’know?

I think it’s totally ok! It’s for a personal project and it isn’t profiting or hurting anyone. Sounds like a fun story.

I think that could fall under an AU (alternate universe) fanfic, or a crossover (not so sure about the last one) - (I read a few stories like that and I like them a lot). As long as it's not for profit I think is perfectly ok :)

@NVFG Oh yeah, I hadn’t thought about classifying it as an AU fanfic. Thanks for reminding me those exist xD
