Ooooh boy. Looking at my lair now, I realize that I've got a lot of mythological references.
Haven't written lore for most of them yet, too
Hoenir is a minor god in Norse mythology. His role is unclear, but some argue him to be Odin's brother. My boy here also happens to be a very special dream derg of mine and the leader of my clan.
Perseus is one of the most renowned of Ancient Greek heroes. This boy actually came with the name when he was gifted to me back in my newbie days, and I never had the heart to change it. He's my Arcane rep.
Morganne had an inspiration to her name - Morgan Le Fay, the witch in Arthurian legends. She's still a major WIP even after all this time, but I can see her as the clan scout.
Guivre was named after a French dragon/wyvern with quite the venom in its arsenal. Still need to gene him up, but he's my clan alchemist.
Haroeris is actually the Greek name of Horus, the most well-known of Ancient Egypt's gods. My boy here is from a pair inspired by bearded vultures, the hatchery they belong to pretty hefty on other references from mythology and literature.
Enkidu is the clay monster in the Epic of Gilgamesh, sent by the gods to kill Gilgamesh himself. Also got him from the same hatchery as Haro.
Verdandt is a subtle reference to Verdandi, one of the three Norns in Norse mythology and the one who could see the present. My boy can see bonds between dragons and seeks to strengthen these bonds with his poems and stories.
Artena's name came from both Artemis and Diana, the Greek and Roman goddesses of the moon, respectively, and also each other's counterpart. She claims to be of the moon herself, and sees it as her Charge.
Cholo and Ketsal. Not only are they fandergs of a certain pair of twins bros, they're also subtle references to the Aztec deities, Xolotl and Quetzalcoatl. Also said to be brothers, Xolotl is sometimes depicted as the god of the night while Quetzalcoatl is the god of the day. My favorite part about these deity brothers is that Xolotl helped Quetzalcoatl through the underworld and back into the realm of the living.
Avalon, the island where King Arthur had been laid to rest after the Battle of Camlann. This lucky Nature egg hatch still needs a major gene and breed overhaul, but he's my Nature druid and best friends with a Forest Spirit.
Varuna is the Hindu god of oceans. This girl is my resident sea monster derg and Water rep. I plan to breed her with Avalon once I've gened the boy up.
Caledfwch (I know, wrong spelling), Clarent and Arondight. Cal's more known as Excalibur IRL, and he and his merry band of knights are all named after swords in Arthurian legend. Clarent is the sword Mordred used against King Arthur and Arondight is Lancelot's. Still thinking up an outfit for Aron, but he's the berserk one of the three. I just need a Galatine (Gawain's sword) derg and lorewise, Cal's small band of knights is complete.
Ammit or Ammut in Ancient Egypt was considered to be Anubis' right hand. After Anubis oversaw the weighing of the soul's heart, Ammut would eat it should the soul be found guilty. This girl is quite feral and a peculiarity in my clan whose only known vocabulary is "nuu" and "biiiss".
And finally, Atalanta, renowned Ancient Greek female hero and a great huntress in her time. This girl is a bonus since she also belongs to the Kitsune subspecies variant known as Forest Spirits. She's best friends with Avalon.
Also love your dergs BTW, especially little Cu Chulainn who's so cute~ Mind if I could ask if he's another reference to something other than mythology?
