Defying the RNG[/u][/size][/font] [font=times new roman][i]What, Who, and Why of Scatters[/i][/font][/center] [font=courier new][size=5][u][color=transparent]x[/color]Scatters? Whazzat?[color=transparent]xx[/color][/u] ::[/size][/font] [indent][font=times new roman]What are scatters? Well, most people know scatters as the thing that happens when you use this thing:[/font] [center][item=tri-color scatterscroll][/center] [font=times new roman]This item here randomly picks three new colors for your dragons. It can be something out of a nightmare to something absolutely jaw-dropping, it's really up to the RNG. Honestly, it's basically gambling. However, after the introduction of new Eye Types from the 2018 Flight Rising Anniversary, and thusly this item:[/font] [center][item=vial of scattersight][/center] [font=times new roman]Eye scatters have become a thing. The item above gives you a pool of: Uncommon, Unusual, Rare, Faceted, Multi-Gaze, and Primal. They function essentially the same as Tri-Color Scatterscrolls, but the eye-types have different rarities, which means getting uncommon 10 times in a row is a very, very possible reality, whilst every single color on the FR color wheel has the same chance of being scattered into. [b]Update[/b] :: After [s]eyepocalypse 2.0[/s] the second eye update, Eye vials are now readily available, so eye vials are no longer as viable so I will no longer be counting them here. [/font][/indent][font=courier new][size=5][u][color=transparent]x[/color]A Tale Of Two Scatters[color=transparent]xx[/color][/u] ::[/size][/font] [indent][font=times new roman]Now, why scatter? What's the point of it? Why spend 350g or a fluctuating price on an item with completely random results? Many of us enjoy the thrill of it. We never know what the colors will land on. Will it give us a triple (a dragon whose 3 colors are the same), a double (a dragon with two of the same colors in three configurations: XYX, XXY, and XYY)? Perhaps we'll get something absolutely horrifying and need to scatter again. [s]Scattersights are a bit more fickle, but who knows! Maybe we'll get a Primal first scatter (when we just want unusual XD)!!![/s] The fact is, the dragons we're scattering are rarely ever being scattered for "profit." Those of us who scatter in high quantities know very well that getting that money back is as likely as scattering into a triple, ie, [i]insanely low[/i]. The reason for that is because these dragons more often than not represent something to us and we want its colors and/or eye-type to either match the theme of our lair, to fit its personality better, to fit its flight, etc. It can be an Earth Flight low-ID (oldie) dragon whom we want to have earth-tones, it can be a Gen One with primal eyes born on our birthday whose colors we want to be absolutely gorgeous. Maybe it's a dragon we adore with a palindrome ID#, a g2 imperial—it can be any dragon we love and just want to have colors [s]and/or eye-types[/s] we love as much as we love the dragon itself. That is why we scatter. And when you love something, you want it to be (near-) perfect, and who keeps tabs on how much you spend on it to achieve that? [/font][/indent][font=courier new][size=5][u][color=transparent]x[/color]Spreading the [s]Misery[/s] Joy[color=transparent]xx[/color][/u] ::[/size][/font] [indent][font=times new roman]And thus, because we love said dragon, many of us also love showing off and spreading the [s]misery and grief[/s] joy and wonder that is scattering in the form of a thread. Scatter threads are public scatter projects in which a dragon is scattered anywhere from once daily to once a week, maybe even more, maybe less! Despite being the Self-Proclaimed Scatter-Monarch, I've only made two threads. [url=http://www1.flightrising.com/forums/drs/2478899#post_2478899]Here's an example![/url] Note that I stopped publicly updating the scatters in that thread after I had initially thought I finished, but then I went on and scattered that dragon an extra 31 times lol... And then an extra 200 scatters more two years later. And even more later. Not all scatter threads are that detailed nor as shiny, but it's honestly just a place where people can get together and laugh and cry together as you scatter into Tomato/Violet/Lapis and be stuck on it until you get another scroll. It's a fun way to share something you love! This is often done in Discord servers, through livestream, or just by spamming the Load Dragon button in the Scrying Workshop to see what the colors have landed on. These are often less formal than longer-term scatter projects and multiple scries/one-scry-per-scatter are not really done often. These usually last a lot less than your typical scatter project. This pinglist for anybody who only wishes to be pinged to scatter projects involving G1s. G1s are dragons who have "None" listed under their Parents list.
