I’ve joined the game since it was released, but I was bad with staying on track and hoarding things. I’ve missed out on a lot to make a few quick bucks. Things changed a lot since then.
I’ve come to find out that low digit dragons are crazy expensive now? How did this happen?
I remember like last year I was cleaning my lair and made the mistake of selling a lot of my older dragons for dirt prices. Yeah. That sucked. But I plan on keeping my OG dragons now (:

I'd say because, well, nobody else has em! There's a finite amount of low digit dragons, so a lair might be pretty lucky to have one. I'm not interested in the 'old dragon collecting' sort of thing, but I can see the appeal!

Well, they're more rare, they're more unique. (An oldie with cool colors feels less replaceable than a high digit dragon of identical or even better colors tbh) and they're good for lore! You can have actual older dragons and make that fact relevant to their character.

He/him & they/them
Perceived value assigned to the concept of exclusivity.
There are only so many dragons that fit into a certain number of digits, and many of them are gone. Because people generally tend to consider 'limited' items to be of higher value--that is, "it must automatically be worth more because not as many people can have one"--they're willing to pay tons for the social prestige that comes with owning one.

Cryptnoch That’s a good point. I mean I remember when this game first started the birth of the first obs/obs/obs imperial was pretty much celebrated sitewide. Then came the crazy bidding for that baby lmao.
But yeah the lore thing is something I’m trying to get more into now, I’m trying to use my starter dragons for the foundation of that- so I definitely se the appeal there.

snek Yeah, that’s why I don’t really get it. Iirc the devs made this game with the idea that the generation of the dragon would never play into the value of the dragon. But seems the ID number took that role instead. Ah well, to each their own I guess.

If that was the intention, they spoiled that the minute they created unhatched eggs, heh. IDs are just the latest symptom since anyone can get an egg. Not everyone can get one of a select few three or four digits.

snek Lmao. Yeah, but tbh I kind of like this new evolved version of FR. After being gone for so long I like being able to find the near (if not exact) dragon I want for like 20k. Like that’s really nice actually.

Isn't it? And there really are such nice things hiding out in so low a price point. I'd much rather have a lot of those than one questionably pretty four digit, honestly. It's not the numbers I came to FR to admire and dress up, after all!

snek Exactly! I had to pull teeth back in the day to get my XXY or XYX dragons, like those were so hard to breed and to get. Suddenly they’re a dime a dozen and I can’t be happier.
