I've been wanting to get back into Roleplay and while I'm working on more of a long-term one, little tid-bits of lore and RP are equally fun! So here's this little thread!
Feel free to talk to any of these dragons! You can ask questions or talk in a Roleplay format! My answers will always be in an RP format! Feel free to direct your questions to a specific god or you can address the general pantheon! Up to you! :D

"You know, Reyna? You still haven't told me why we're here"
The Ridgeback grimaced, not looking at her Pearlcatcher companion. Her sights were set dead ahead, scanning the tangled undergrowth as best she could in the near pitch-black night. "I mean, not that I don't trust you," the Pearlcatcher, Luna, continued. "but I just don't know why we'd come all this way-"
"If you must know, healer, I'm here to make a prayer." Reyna interrupted, just as she caught sight of the old, crumbling stone walls that she was looking for. Ah. here at last.
"Oh?" Luna cocked her head. "I never really took you as a religious dragon."
"Only sometimes." Reyna ducked her head under a half-collapsed archway. "When it matters."
"What are you praying for, anyway?"
"A death."
Luna stopped. "A what?"
The Ridgeback finally turned her head to face her, noticing that Luna's face had paled. She gave the healer a knowing look before turning her attention to the sigil etched on the wall of the old temple they were now standing in. A dragon skull, sporting a gnarled red rose protruding from the eye.
"Who are you praying to? The Plaguebringer? Shadowbinder?"
"Not those Gods."
"And why am I here, exactly?" Luna's voice stuttered.
"Just in case something goes wrong."
Reyna knelt before the sigil, thinking so clearly of the one who had to die. The Queen who had taken Reyna and her family from their homes and locked them in that awful coliseum. The Queen who had cheered with her circus crowd of noblemen as Reyna fought, and killed, other dragons. The wicked Queen who had done this to so many others. Including Luna, although that may be hard to believe. The Queen's reign of terror needed to come to an end. And Reyna was willing to do it herself, she just needed a bit of Godly aid.
And so, kneeling in the empty temple in the black of night, Reyna called upon Cortez.

Cortez was not used to The Call. She had heard the others speaking of it often, when a mortal would go to a temple and pray to them. But no one prayed to the god of death. They tried to fight her if they could, to stave off her inevitably, but none succeeded. Mortality came to all dragons, and so would Cortez.
She could not say where she was when she heard the call, both everywhere and nowhere at once, anywhere someone would die. And she did not leave those places when she arrived in her temple. It was an old structure, ages of disuse had left it in a sorry state, not that it had ever been a grand spectacle when it had been used. It's cold stone walls stood solemn and alone.
Cortez did not manifest herself right away when she saw the dragon kneeling in the empty temple. She could smell the Stormcatcher's handiwork on this one, though she hardly remembered the name he gave them. The other seemed nervous, one of the Lightweaver's designs. She seemed unnerved by the temple's appearance. Good.
"Who calls me?" Cortex spoke, finally, in a voice she had no need to use in over a century. It echoed through the stone walls as her incorporeal form shifted and and flew like cold wind, circling the two dragons who dared call on Death.

"Who calls me?"
The voice was unlike anything either dragon had ever heard before. Luna jumped, making a noise that sounded something like a squeak as she pressed her wings tight against her sides and ran closer to Reyna. The Ridgeback didn't seem to share her fear (but then again, it was always hard to tell) instead lifting her head to gaze upon the whirlwind of... something that ran circles around the two dragons standing in the room. Luna felt a shiver down her spine.
"My name is Reyna Goldspire, unwilling champion of the Queen's coliseum." Reyna paused, trying her best to choose her words carefully. But even she was a bit unnerved talking to the Goddess of Death. "My Lady, I come to you with a wish to end the Queen's wicked reign, to cleanse the world of such a creature."
Luna looked up at her companion as she spoke, noting that Reyna had become much more tense. Both dragons knew quite well that no favors asked of the Gods came without something in return. Reyna continued. "I ask you only to name your price for such a blessing, and I will see it done."

Cortez's presence never left the temple as she searched the world to find the Queen the two dragons were talking about. Ah yes, that one. She had visited her Coliseum many times, there were many deaths there, and even as her incorporeal eyes searched the battlegrounds, she could see Maple roaming the field, collecting the souls of those who could not find the way to move on.
"You ask for much," she hummed to the dragons before her. She could see the Lightbringer's mark quaking in fright. If only the other had so much sense. "My realm is those who will die by other's hands, or by their own. I have never been sought out to be one of your marksmen, an assassin of the highest power. My price will be high."
She manifested then, in the temple. With a flurry of dried rose petals, dripping red, the throne at the end of the building, covered in cobwebs, lit up with a deeply ominous glow. And she appeared, sitting on it in a dragon form, much larger than the two before her. Everything about her appearance screamed a threat, and her blank red eyes stared at the still kneeling figure.
"You have heard stories, I would presume, of dragons so foolish as to seek the death of another, too cowardly to kill, so they come to the God of Death, to do their dirty work for them. Some pantheons will allow it, allow you simple mortals to order them around like a puppet upon a string, simply tug and we will come running." Cortez made a noise, almost like a growl, but much deeper that shook the walls of the crumbling temple. "I will not. If you want me to take this Queen of yours, a life of equal merit must be taken. A soul for a soul, and I win either way."

The temple quaked before them, further crumbling the already-broken stone that surrounded them. Luna didn't dare say a word, only barely peeking out from behind Reyna as the Ridgeback did the talking. Gods, if only she had known what Reyna was going to do before she agreed to come.
"It is not my intention to order you about, my lady. This is a task I wish to do by my own claws." It as true, and Reyna didn't dare lie. And as much as she wished she could kill the Queen on her own, Valentine hid herself well. There were hundreds of warriors in the palace. And Reyna didn't have nearly enough allies to storm the Queen's mansion by dragonforce alone. "I have heard stories, of dragons with the blessing of death, or famine, or plague. With such a blessing, none dare stand in their way."
For the first time since Cortez's arrival, Luna made a noise, not quite speaking as much as it was a hum of affirmation that she too had heard such tales.
"That is what I ask of you. I am desperate for an end to such dark times. And I am willing to do what you ask of me." Reyna bowed her head slightly. "Name your price."
