so, like many people—i have a hobby of flitting through my Nesting Grounds and seeing what ungodly combinations i could possibly create in my lovely plague pits, when i noticed that one of my dragons was SOMEHOW related to two sons of a dragon i have long since sent to the cornfields. here are my two related dragons, [b]Shemonov[/b] and [b]Golgotha[/b]! [s]Golgotha comes from a strong line of paternal exalts[/s] [img]https://i.imgur.com/JglkZvS.png[/img] so, whilst [b]Agrippa[/b] is [b]Golgotha[/b]'s great-great grandfather, he is only [b]Shemonov[/b]'s great grandfather! pretty neat, huh? show us YOUR unexpected relations! i'd love to see 'em! if you also have too much time on your hands, show us a family tree too! My lair is home to a large number of knowingly related dragons, since I keep way too many of my own kids, but I've had a whole bunch of surprises too! However, they turned out to be long-lost cousins! Rook/Edge -> Phoenix -> Noor -> Eitri Rook/Edge -> Xerxies -> Szmaragd -> Inanna They were too closely related to be mates back in the day, but oddly enough I just plugged them into the bloodline assayer and found they're distant enough now??? I don't quite get how this works. So it was quite a surprise to all of them when Aventurine arrived, and turned out to be Otieno's great-great-grandson! Yuko/Otieno -> Mouric -> Orchid -> Tempest -> Aventurine Not only that, but Aventurine's great-grandfather, Mouric, was clutchmates with the one child who did stick around with the clan, [url=https://flightrising.com/main.php?dragon=732647]Aganju[/url]. That would be interesting enough on its own, but when nesting pairs a couple of days ago, I found out that Aventurine is related to another dragon in the lair, the lovely Aintza: [url=https://flightrising.com/main.php?dragon=2147818] [img]https://flightrising.com/rendern/350/21479/2147818_350.png[/img] [/url] It turns out that Mouric, Aventurine's great-granddad and Otieno's son, mated to Talva, the sister of Aintza's great-grandma! Confused? Me too! Nebula -> Talva -> Orchid -> Tempest -> Aventurine Nebula -> Tholia -> Sapphyr -> Apatite -> Aintza So they're too closely related to breed, but Inanna and Eitri, who are less separated, are fine? Told you I didn't get it, but it's fun to find out things like this even when they're confusing!

@Sigma i'm in awe! i've never seen so many related dragons accidentally come up together again, it made me giggle!

Stella is Unnamed's Great Grandmother (Haura > Sky > Stella)

And she is Beetlejuice's Great-great Grandmother! (Pallas > Utsukushii > Thorin > Stella).

Thorin seems to be Sky's older brother, making Haura his niece, and Unnamed his grand-niece!

so... your two dragons should be.. third cousins?

[center]I've had a few of these, often unplanned but I do think it ads some additional lore potential when it occurs... So when collecting dragons for my "The Bound" project, quite a few dragons ended up related because their colour combos where similar, but I really liked these two... They are also each other's opposites, Spring has green wings but is ice, while Skype hace light blue wings but is wind. I always thought that these two liked each others flight and this actually brought them closer together. The same project resulted in my finding these two dragons... I believe they may be a little bit further apart, haven't checked these ones out. But cause their relative has a weird name (ZoruruArmyHead), I see these two as originating from the same clan (hence the same name conventions) but with very different out looks and styles. There is a bit of rivalry between these two. I was kinda scoping out mates for another dragon I owned and then realised this match was actually a granddaughter of one of my own dragons... She's my oldest dragon and I trained her to 25 along with a couple of other dragons for the coli. Eventually, she was retired as a farmer and trainer, and turned into a mage. Sometime last year, I decided I was going to make a team specifically for farming the Workshop, but never got around to getting two other teammates. [url=https://flightrising.com/main.php?dragon=3729033] [img]https://flightrising.com/rendern/350/37291/3729033_350.png[/img] [/url] Until someone in a Discord channel I was in found this guy for 30k on the AH and didn't need a lvl 25, so I added him to the party. On a whim, I was poking at nests for fodder and when I put Ruck in, Laryn's name was greyed out. A little bit of digging and it turns out Laryn's mother, Cerium, is Ruck's grandmother. Small world how they both wound up in my lair and on the same coli team.

I've got three pairs that I know of! Always a pleasant surprise when that happens -- plenty of good lore opportunities there. First, Taljiwald and Lukannon. They're second cousins once removed. Talji is a nature spirit, and I like to think that Luka shares some less potent abilities. @ancientsecrets they all look so well-loved and battle-ready! you seem like you value lore a lot, the sheer quantity of relations here must be great for ideas! i love it!

@Kweh what a cool gift to receive, and such nice colours too! Ruck is quite the find, truly 30k for a LV25? that's fate for sure!
