Lore:
Sandsharks are proud and agressive dragons who live in the Shattered Plains, they wander often alone or in small groups in order to hunt and steal.
Their skin is rough like the soil of the plains itself and these dragons are able to bury their massive bodies into the sand for stalking or hiding, some say they can even “swim” on it (which is true but just a few were able to see this and survive). When you see the tip of their spines coming out it’s too late. Bigger dragons can even catch flying beasts by coming out of dunes like sharks on the sea.
They’re so connected to the soil and sand that they can read the vibrations on the earth and know if someone is coming, if there are tunnels beneath them or if there are items buried, just by touching the ground (what makes them great stalkers and scavengers).”
Society:
These dragons have their own tongue and ways. They value only the strong and the smart. Magic is looked down by them, a proper Sandshark uses only their body to survive, no tricks or spells (these are for the weaklings!)
Tundras are often
shamans in their society, since they’re born with magic it is expected that they will live as healers at the border of the territory, never taking part of the group’s meetings or decisions. Being called only when their skills are necessary. If for some reason a Tundra is born without magic then it will be given the chance to pick if they want to live with the shamans assisting them or within the main warrior like society with the other Sandsharks.
Coliseum and Dominance is something they love and sing about, when a dragon is done training in the Gladiator Pit, they leave in search of what inspired their songs!
Gladiator is one of highest rank within their society, only dragons who share the same blood as their leaders or offsprings coming from high/middle ranked Sandsharks can apply to that position.
Low ranked individuals can eventually rise to higher ranks by serving Gladiators and Warriors as squires or normal servants until they prove themselves and get a promotion from their masters, earning the right to carry a weapon.
Weak dragons are often called “Jackals” by them, these are not strong enough to hunt or to provide for the clan, without a single drop of magic their role is far different from the rest. Jackals are their scavengers, they eat the leftovers, clean after the rest of the group and are also the ones who lead burial rituals.
There’s only one thing greater than themselves, the deities, Sandsharks are loud when they revere their deity.
Naming:
A name will say a lot about a Sandshark's origin.
A high ranked Sandshark earns the right to name their offspring with fierce adjectives, qualities that they are claiming to be passing forward through their blood. E.g: Tyrant, Severe, Corrosive etc
When a high ranked Sandshark has too many hatchlings they often end up picking intimidating nouns for their younger ones like Venom, Skull, Carapace etc (which are considered middle ranked names)
Middle ranked individuals will often name their offspring using beasts derived names, such as Boar, Wolf, Vulture etc
They can also pick intimidating nouns like Venom, Skull, Carapace etc
Low ranked individuals will be named after tools or weapons. E.g: Dagger, Hook, Hammer etc
Neutral ranked individuals are orphans or abandoned offsprings they will be named after physical traits such as Tusks, Rugged, Scar etc
Quick Note on Naming: Please feel free to name them using those rules on literally any language you wish! I name mine in Portuguese, so if you want to name them in French, Italian, Japanese...go for it!
