The Fungus Fae reside deep within the Shrieking Wilds, and they are a species that has only recently become a noticeable force. Through spores they spread, popping up from damp, shadowed clumps of soil, often in caves or amongst dense foliage. They manage the environment of the Shrieking Wilds by helping break down the dead organic material around them to be recycled. Due to this, they primarily feed off of decomposing plants and insects, but some dragons also claim to have witnessed them feeding off of deceased animals.
When Fungus Fae are exposed to direct sunlight they begin to decompose, so they tend to live together in clumps in the darkest regions of the Shrieking Wilds. This also means they are weak fliers who must travel with caution. Few dragons involve themselves with Fungus Fae, as they are almost considered the lower-caste within the jungle and are very reserved as a whole. Most lead a quiet and slow-paced lifestyle, although a trail of spores tells a tale beyond the reach of the evergreen...

Yet their society is not as primitive as it may seem. Beneath inconspicuous soils exists a city strewn together by fine strands of hyphae, which etch corridors, chambers and dwellings into the subsurface below. They call their home Shiro, named after the mass of hyphae which form its foundations. There, their young grow in safety. Juvenile Fungus Fae are shaded by a cap atop their heads which sheds when they come of age. By this same principle, many adult Fungus Fae wear similarly fashioned hats and armour when travelling to protect them from the sun's rays. Their kind spread through spores on the wind, water, or are carried unknowingly by animals and dragons alike.
Fungus Fae experience a deep connection with the forest. Like their close relatives, mycorrhizal fungi, they are able to form symbiotic associations with plants, sharing a close and mutually beneficial coexistence. Their hyphae explore the soil, and like a vast web, capture nutrients which can be traded in exchange for photosynthates. Through this nutrient exchange, Fungus Fae also demonstrate minor healing properties, rejuvenating sickly and sturdy plants alike with a boost of nutrients which encourage rich growth.

In a state akin to meditation, they are also able to communicate with plants via symbiosis, becoming one with their leaves and limbs and influencing their movement. This means that despite their small stature, when working cooperatively, Fungus Fae are able to launch massive attacks with overgrowth which uproots the land and vines which lash and strangle. Folk tales of innocent fairy rings were misleading. Fungus Fae are able to tap into the energy contained within this mass of fungi and extend their reach and powers far beyond its natural limits. These abilities vary depending on the vegetation present, and though all Fungus Fae thrive in nature, many have now adapted to the extreme and unique conditions of new domains throughout Sornieth. Subspecies: Fungus Fae

Hello! I think the Fungus Fae are so cute!

Going to try to get my own little breeding pair too! Might I suggest doing subspecies of fungus fae that are like different kinds of fungus? Still there are many kinds of fungus so it might go a bit crazy doing them all...
Like Amanita muscaria/fly agaric:
