TOPIC | Cool/ Happy Dragons with Disabilities!

I am really really struggling with accepting my own disability status and struggling with self-worth stuff related to being disabled. What I think would help is seeing your dragons with various disabilities who live rich, fulfilling lives in spite of (or somehow enhanced by???) their disability. I'll start with mine. Hezom is my lightning rep, avatar dragon, and all around Cool Dude. He has adapted to being Deaf very well, and his friends are happy to adjust to using sign language. He's got a loving partner, good working relationships, a solid career, and lots of close personal friends: Enchant has severe PTSD (alluded to but not stated in his story) and he's enjoying a happy retirement after a long career with his wife:

Enchant has severe PTSD (alluded to but not stated in his story) and he's enjoying a happy retirement after a long career with his wife:

My coli healer is mute but he's got no issue with expressing himself with his face, gesturing and magic instead And then there's my swamp monster. I wouldn't say he's disabled in any way, really, but since he's not a dragon he's having some real troubles trying to learn draconian and most dragons find him straight up icky so he's a bit of an outcast But his best friend and partner, my swamp witch, stands up for him all the time and helps translate his guttural noises into words

I can understand how you feel. I've been legally disabled for over a decade now, and sometimes, it's tough. But, happy thoughts instead! Here's my blind dragon, Augusta, who loves her work more than anything else and will not let her disability stop her from her duties:

Helvetia here is mute, and one third of my coli farming team! All I've got for now is that she's running some kind of racket lol

I hope you feel a little bit better soon - it's really hard to work through internalized things like that. I struggle with it a lot, myself. :c Here's some of my dragons! Not all of them, though. Most of my lore is not written on their pages yet, unfortunately. I'm a little embarrassed of my lore/ideas but I'll try to talk a little bit about them. Here's Other! They struggle with a neurological disorder (dyspraxia, specifically). They also have a very loving husband that brings them all sorts of pretty rocks/geodes for their hoard, and they have a fantastic time of going into the clan's main commerce area to trade for new things and talk to their friends that live closer to the central area! c: Persei is also disabled, but not really in the traditional sense? He has very little sense of smell, and as a Tundra his memory doesn't hold up either - he also has PTSD. He's very well loved! I know the lore I do have written seems pretty gloomy, but his story is going to be one centered around recovery. Tusk here is Deaf and has mobility issues! His character is still being workshopped, but he's going to be a scout/explorer. His family all use a form of sign-language and because of the clan's more communal way of living, most of the dragons there have at least some rudimentary knowledge of it and can communicate effectively. Not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for but regardless I'm sending you good vibes, and so are all of my dragons! <3

Doesn't stop him from putting all that spiral energy into weird explosive experiments instead. Scientist gotta science.

She has always felt weak because of this, but she has trained to be strong in different ways (She still needs more levelling) With all her training she's currently a very strong dragon and one of the top warriors! And possibly next in line for leadership as well

While she has found a magical way to protect herself now(the runes and the pink shimmer) her severe illness in her youth took a toll on her body. She is physically frail and cannot fly normally. She can glide a bit and occasionally will travel to the Ashfall Wastes so that she can glide on the updrafts there. She is immensely curious and travels the world with her father figure Canarth, cataloguing the flora and fauna she finds.

After a near-death experience in the past, she became able to see ghosts, so she works as the clan's spirit medium, passing on messages from the dead and helping weary souls to rest. She manages her poor heart and lungs with magic, and while she has been trying to take it easy more often, her past trauma makes her feel like she should always be doing something. Thankfully, her position as the clan's librarian helps occupy both her mind and body, and she finds a certain satisfaction in looking over her neatly-organized shelves at the end of the day. It's a much more peaceful occupation than all of the fighting she had to do in her youth. Doen is getting on in years, and her legs don't work as well as they used to. She uses her staff as a walking stick to help her get around. Her body becoming old and worn won't stop her from making some of the best herbal medicines in the clan, though-- she continues to cultivate her plants and mix up potions and salves. She might sigh and grumble to herself when someone asks her for help, but her cranky demeanor belies a caring heart that can't say no to a dragon in need. Her sixth sense and her nose are both very well-honed to compensate for her blindness-- sometimes she says that, in a way, she can see better now than she could back when her eyes still worked. She's a witch like Doen, except she specializes more in charms and curses than healing.
