TOPIC | oh what to do with a pretty primal hatch
1 2
long and rather rambling post ahead, fair warning! so! the other day i hatched a rather unassuming primal gaoler bab, from one of my regular old breeding pairs (as it tends to happen) obviously, because hes a primal (and with decently matching colors at that, given that he's terracotta/tan/cream) i went and scried the unassuming lad. turns out he's got quite a bit of potential, with several nice green accents coming through with his genes my personal favorite is this bane scry, i really love how the wraith plays off the wind primal eyes! this one feels almost like a patchwork doll animated by the wind this one is rather similar to his bane scry, but in a modern dragon and this one manages to be rather pretty, without leaning so strongly on the green accents now, with all these wonderful scries you may be wondering why i'm asking what to do with him, right? heres the thing. hes gorgeous. i kinda love him. i'd be happy keeping him in my pretties page for sure! i'd love if i could insert him into my lore somewhere though, given that im a wind lair and he's just such a pretty primal! if i were to do this though i'd have to either remove one of my pre-existing wind characters, or add another 3 along with him. i'm really weird about needing full rows for all my lore related dragons, i cant stand the look of an incomplete row, so i'd absolutely need it to be a multiple of 4 (currently there are 24 of them, 1 of whom i'm working on a breeding project to replace because i fell in love with a new scry for her concept) i really love all of my windy dragons! i have no desire to get rid of any of them! so my dilemma is this: do i keep him, and work him into my lore, thus bringing in 3 more characters along with him to even out the rows? if i do that, what niches do i have left to fill of wind dragons? their clan is largely spiritually based, with all of the character taking on a priest-type connection to the elements, so i dont really need like. a chef dragon, or a warrior dragon, or something like that. i already have

a royal family (king, queen, and their 2 daughters, plus an adoptive son mentioned again later)
a windsinger colored spiritual leader
a priest-y spiritual leader character of each special eye type (specifically a goat baby guardian, an innocent eyed musical ridgeback who will probably get new eyes when better ones for her are released, a facet fae, a swirl spiral, a multigaze imperial, a dark sclera coatl, and a glowing eyed pearlcatcher)
a few extra spiritual windys just for fun/potential future eye types (specifically an animated nocturne kite via the stitched and patchwork genes, a pirate-esque storm-based mirror, and a cloud-based tundra with innocent eyes) [s](the three of whom i brought in... for the sole purpose of filling out a row so i could bring another character's adopted son onto that page and off of my flight rep page, as i came up with something else to fill the 12th spot on their page. yes this is very complicated. im so sorry.)[/s]
a few primal teachers (wind, ice, and fire; plus the wind one's son)
the primal students being trained by said teachers to be spiritual leaders (shadow, light, plague, and nature)
the only breeds i dont have represented among the wind family would be... bogsneaks, gaolers (though i think i'd like to keep my only lore gaoler in my ice family), and snappers. so there *are* 3 breeds left at least, even if i'd rather not use one of them. i can always give someone else a kid too to double up a breed, but i don't know what base concepts i could use, y'know? ive got all they eyes, a windsinger colorway, plus a kite, a storm, and a cloud. whats left thats wind related to turn into a dragon even? especially that i could do with a snapper, which are just about the least windy dragons possible? i also already have a banescale in my wind group (the adoptive son of the royal family who was found as an unhatched egg); but his bane scry is my favorite scry, so adding him in might mess with the lore i have in the works already (namely there being one baby gaoler and one baby bane, both found as unhatched eggs (at different times and in different places, who happened to hatch within a few months of each other) adopted by different royal families, who just absolutely hate each other for no reason at all despite their families being good friends who happily combined their clans into one.) none of my lore is very concrete, so it doesnt really matter, i can figure out a work around, but is this one gorgeous lad worth all that effort? if i keep him i'd love to have him as part of my lore! ... or i could sell him. he's a pretty brown wind primal with green accent colors. he could sell well, and would likely make someone else very happy. honestly, if someone replies to this saying they would love to have him and makes vaguely decent offer, with enthusiasm? i'd probably sell him just to make them happy! i like him a lot, but he could almost definitely serve someone else better! so what do i do? do i keep him? do i sell him? do i shove him in my hibden (when he comes off his cooldown, oops) to think about later? do you have any preferred scries? any suggestions for other wind dragons to put in my lore?

I understand your dilemma for sure. Hm.

I say keep him! The more the merrier, and adding three characters sounds like a fun challenge. Besides you said you would love to have him, so go for it! I saw in your elemental families that water, arcane, earth, and lightning are missing so maybe add some dragons of those elements?

@HappyAccidents hmm, you've got a good point there! though unfortunately im also a bit weird about how i organize my primal dragons, so i dont really have room for more primals with the ones ive got :/ i have been trying to come up with some interesting inspirations for characters though... maybe i'll think of something with the cloak of invisibility for one? hm hm hm. much to think about haha

@WurldPeaz certainly fun! but personally im not a fan of the purple accent on the tan. i think the deep green of the toxin complements the green in the eyes and the ragged, and the tan is light enough to go with the cream! plus visually the toxin sorta looks like wind, y'know? im not a huge fan of the color purple in general, but green is my favorite color, so im naturally more drawn to the greener accent colors ^^;

I'd say keep him! He's absolutely stunning, and there are plenty of lore possibilities for him. I'm not entirely sure on your lore or how it works (I'd have to poke around your lair a bit first [s]which I'm totally gonna do after I post this because I love what I've read so far[/s]), but assuming you wouldn't mind a Greek mythology reference, you could always do something with the four winds! Since you said you didn't have any Bogsneaks yet, I scried him as one: Given the warm colors/breed design, I'd say he could be a nice representation of either a southern wind (sort of like a warm summer breeze) or a west wind (he does remind me of an autumn sunset!). Alternately, since you also mentioned not having a Snapper: Snappers, due to their design, are unable to fly (though some Wind/Arcane dragons can achieve minor flight with magic, at least in canon lore). I'm not sure if your clan has a nesting grounds or not, but I feel like him being a Snapper could be perfect for being a nest tender! Maybe he could keep an eye on young hatchlings (he's large enough to scare off most enemies, while also seeming gentle enough to be great with hatchlings), or maybe he's the one who gathers bamboo, feathers, and other soft materials to build nests and keep eggs warm. An alternate idea can be based on the Snapper breed's tendency to travel. Unable to be in the air much, he'd probably travel often between land-dwelling clans, so if your clan lives in a high area (whether it's a cliffside or floating platforms) maybe he could be a merchant of sorts? Every clan needs a way to get food and materials, and I feel like a Snapper would be great for that if the position is still open. (Plus you mentioned something about priest-like dragons, maybe he could even make or trade incense or other things they might need for rituals?)

I say stick with the stunning bane scry and work the lore around it! Perhaps make him an adoptive son of sorts? Something your royal saw himself in and took under his wing maybe!

Also the four wind idea is really cool too! Perhaps all four winds could be banes to tie them together while keeping your favorite looks?

@SyiiTormey alas, the royal bane is a permababy lol but that would certainly be a good idea otherwise :O maybe i could have all 4 wind be ancient breeds, and wait for 2 more to come out! though the downside is that ancients cant wear apparel, so i wouldent be able to put all the seasonal breezes on them :/
everyone has offered such good ideas! definitely leaning towards keeping him for sure haha
