One of the more recent subspecies discoveries in Sornieth, Magmarunners were first observed at Magmablood Rebuke, the youngest geological feature to have appeared on Sornieth’s surface.
They are the first Fire sub-species seen to not just tolerate the inhospitable magma flows for periods, but to reside within them seemingly full-time.

To the consternation of thier neighbors. Visitors without announcement can be so startling at times. Especially, coming from underground and shooting up into the air in front of you.

Magmarunner pairs found that different beastclans are vulnerable to fighters from different elements. To protect the home lairs, pairs nest in different lands. Hoping that some of the hatchlings will remain in the Domain of the Flamecaller.
While thier eyes give away thier off Island birth, thier coloring is a giveaway to thier true roots as Magmarunners.

I imagine they're riding to the top on the upsurge of lava within the cone and then sliding down the cone's surface before repeating the process?

Magmarunners are extremely competitive in my mind. They use the jets of hot lava to throw them high above the top lip of the cone. The highest hatchling gets to be the first to go down the side. After they are all at the bottom, they all jump into the nearest fumerole to hitch another ride up.
