I really do yea, when I made her years ago my favorite color was purple, but the shade of purple I picked for her just doesn't gene well and has pretty unfortunate secondary colors (its literally the color "purple." Idk why I went with it).
I picked white for the secondary since I thought the white and purple were pretty together but I can't gene it at all unless I want grey in there :/ I knew nothing about this game going into it either so I didn't know I'd want genes for her in the future. The awful sand tert doesn't help either.
She has plans in her bio but I'm not going with them, she'll definitely be a future scatter project since I can't stand trying to gene these colors any more

Nakkie scry, so you can see him. I didn't realize that Black and Obsidian would be very different colors when genes came into play, else I would have made my custom progen a double Obsidian. It was a very near thing, but I thought he'd look boring as a double. I also didn't think realize genes were a thing, or that they would have accent colors that would make them look very different from colors just 1 step away on the color wheel.
But honestly, I've made peace with how he looks. His apparel helps tie his look together.

However, I still like the Lavender version as well. Have you tried another shimmering gene? I think Sludge isn't as dark as Shimmer, for example:

The problem is that all of the existing genes make Ice loosing its pale touch: they add a way too bright blue-ish tone for me. That's why I kept him basic all the years. On the other hand he looks quite great with basic Ice and I'm not sure what colour would have been more fitting for him, so yeah - it's only half-regret I guess.[/center]

Oh yeah, I had no idea about how genes would look or that tertiaries even existed when I joined and so I ended up with a combo that's really hard to work with.
If I'm remembering right I'm pretty sure I was trying to go for a sorta cool tone, misty look with some purple added but I didn't realise that steel would either look really dark or have a super clashing green or orange accent colour with the majority of genes. It really doesn't help that Crimson ended up being the tert. If I could go back and remake her I would probably end up picking sky or something like that so she could have nicer primary genes that matched a bit nicer

I've been debating for a bit and I think I might end up scattering her so I can hopefully end up with some nice grey/blue/purple range colours like I'd always wanted her to have.

Mist is a new color and you shouldn't be able to choose the new colors for your progens anyway, so you didn't make a mistake - you didn't even have that choice (
color wheel expansion announcement, last bullet point).
Though mind that Iridescent and Shimmer are bugged (I'd like to say especially on Fae Females, something to do with shininess and lineart visibility?), so even if you chose another color, it's possible that it might be "fixed" someday.
