I'm trying to finish up my lore, and part of what I need to do is give roles to some of my dragons. All dragons must have a role! A role as in, are they an engineer, a warrior, a witch, a student? Just first impressions are fine, I can figure out from the suggestions what ideas will work with my lore. Can be based on their appearance, colors, just vibes, whatever, I just need ideas. I'm stuck! Behold, my [s]8[/s] 5 remaining loreless dragons: Asteria, my arcane rep. Floral but not a florist, I already have too many florists. Just don't know what else to do with him. I already have dragons in important roles like clan treasurer, all the way down to the local hippie freeloader. So I have no specific voids to fill that I can think of.

@fistfulofdragons I’m not really good at matching occupations to individual dragons so I’ll just toss some suggestions out, see if any spark an interest!

cartographer, botanist, biologist, orchardist, someone who crafts charms or decorations out of magic, toymaker, archivist, surgeon, bard, alchemist, enchanter, scribe, songstress, performer, perfume maker (perhaps they make them from flowers?), messenger, one who foretells dark omens, collector of arcane/occult relics, painter, jeweller, sculptor, apothecary, herbalist, shaman, crypt guardian, false idol, dream weaver, perhaps someone who goes out to investigate and subdue sudden outbursts of magic in the world, gardener, plague doctor, sanctuary guardian, forest protector, spectre who haunts a wrecked ship, a mage who tends to lean towards the morally bankrupt side of things (if you want a dragon to go the evil route), monster slayer for hire, training birds to use as messengers, information broker, running a spy network, bee keeper, potion/elixir brewer, and one who banishes darkness.

If I think up more I’ll add them, but hopefully these can offer you some ideas.

Your dragons look fun! I'll just go by vibes.

Asteria looks like she'd be some kind of mediator, therapist, or even a matchmaker. Someone who meddles in relationships for a good cause bc she cares and wants to see others thrive.

Annua seems sporty and like she's not afraid to get her paws dirty. Maybe she'd be a landscaper or someone who clears invasive plants out of trails? Maintaining trails is an important job that's often overlooked.

Andromeda looks like she wouldn't be out of place with old things. Maybe her role has something to do with antiques or restoration.

Banshee: ghostly but lively! I'd trust her to greet travelers or some other hospitality job. I bet she throws the wildest parties.

Solstice looks like someone who wants to be knowledgeable but has a long way to go before she's at the top. A trainee for something. Perhaps fine metalworking for a jewelery or a lapidary guild? There's an awful lot of jewelry on FR and someone has to make it.

Haruka looks like a lifeguard, a scout, or someone who does search and rescue. She might even team up with Annua on some tasks!

Mishri is gorgeous! My first instinct is divination, but I can also see him trying a more down-to-earth wellness/lifestyle coaching thing. Kind of like Marie Kondo. He'll make you clean your room and recommend nice incense to burn when you're done. He also looks like he'd be great with kids.

Last but not least, it would be fun if Magnolia was a healer. Specifically with allergies. He'll hook you up with remedies if you have a pollen allergy. But are some folks allergic to a veilspun or gaoler's blossoms? It might be a tricky job! He looks like he can take on the challenge.

@StygianZinogre I've looked at a lot of job lists and can't believe I've skipped over jeweler each time! Of course my clan needs a jeweler! I have a whole subspecies about jewelry coming to life, they could repair my lair's collection research subjects if they get hurt as like a side job.

@Festivoog Thank you so much, this was super helpful in getting me to think about their characters! It's hard for me to come up with things on my own sometimes, but I know what I like when I see it. I particularly connected with a few of your suggestions that just felt "right" to me:

I think I'm gonna make Mishri my jeweler as mentioned above, he seems fancy and jewelry is fancy, perfect fit. I could make Solstice his apprentice jeweler like your suggestion, but she's more interested in actual literal jewelry and not the subspecies so she gets annoyed a lot that they keep having to do both haha. And their species size differencec ould make them a great tag-team to make jewelry for dragons of all sizes

It's funny you said that about Asteria because my former arcane rep was one of those super-positive life guru types haha. Making Asteria a therapist or counselor type is like the perfect successor to that

Banshee would TOTALLY do hospitality! Definitely taking that idea as inspiration!

Taking your other ideas into consideration too, but those are the ones where I read them and immediately went, "oh!"
