[item=mirror][item=magical shard]
In the Arcanist’s Observatory there once sat an enchanted looking glass that only he and his most trusted researchers knew about. The magic glass had been carved with runes and spells and wrapped in enchanted silver, which gave it the power to see deep into the cosmos and reveal secrets of the universe that even the Observatory’s Eye of Many Lenses could not find. It was one of the Arcanist’s most prized possessions.
Then, one stormy night, a window was left open in the room where the mirror was kept. A great gust of wind blew through the room and knocked the looking glass from its stand. It fell to the ground and shattered into thousands of pieces, which were picked up by the storm and blown out into the sky. The glass pieces became scattered all over Sornieth, and the enchanted mirror was no more.
However, the mirror had been so enchanted and bespelled that the shards of glass retained their magic, even though the mirror itself was destroyed. And when they were discovered by dragons, that magic worked to change and transform them in an attempt to recreate the enchanted looking glass that had been lost. The shards would become one with their bodies, changing them to become like crystal clear glass, wrapped in enchanted silver, while their wings would contain the stars and galaxies that the mirror once displayed. Each dragon would become a living embodiment of the magic mirror that once was, an Enchanted Shard Dragon.
Some dragons enjoy this change, finding beauty in their new forms. There is a not insignificant number of adventurous dragons who go out and search the world for one of these missing shards, hoping that they too can become enchanted by their magic. Other dragons are less happy with the enchantment, often those who have stumbled upon a shard by mistake. They may instead seek out a way to undo the magic and return to their previous form. However, once they do, the magic of the shard is lost, and if they ever wish to change back into an Enchanted Shard Dragon, they will need to find a new shard. Strangely enough, though, sometimes the magic of the shard is strong enough to pass the enchantment down to an Enchanted Shard Dragon’s offspring, leaving them just as bewitched as their parents.
So far, only a handful of shards have been discovered, their power used up to birth new Enchanted Shard Dragons. Who knows how many shards are still hidden around Sornieth, their magic yet untapped…

Plated Crystals
Sometimes, when a shard is exposed to extreme heat (such as fire or intense sunlight) and still had some of the metal filigree of the mirror attached, the filigree may melt and coat the shard. The metal coating does not diminish the shard's ability to change the dragon who finds it, but it does mean that the starlight trapped inside is no longer visible.
The Plated Crystals variant dragons must be all gold-tone or all silver-tone in colour, and are most commonly fire or light flight, but not exclusive to them. Primary and secondary genes can include iri/shim, met/all, but the dragon must have at least crystal or facet, and the tert must still be filigree. (Thank you to @LadyShadow for helping me develop this variant!)

Neat Subspecies ^^ But I have a question: why is the Nocturne Male registered since he has Starmap primary and Facet secondary, unlike what the requirements has listed?
