New Players, Welcome! |
Dragons for Sale Here! |
Other Links and Useful Things
There are a few things that might be helpful that I thought I’d add here ^^
For example,
to “ping” me so that I get a notification that you’re messaging me here on this thread, copy and paste my username along with the @ symbol in front. Like this:
This way I get notified that someone is addressing me in the thread. This is a huge help to make sure your messages get read!
To post a large picture
of your dragons, along with a sweet link directly to their page in your lair (which hopefully you will be doing in a week! =D ) you go to the dragon’s page, click on the Generate Code button at the bottom of their statistics panel, and copy the bbcode portion. You can then paste it directly to the forum post.
If you’re interested,
here is a link to a BBCode Guide I saved to my bookmarks folder when I first joined. I still use it!
Speaking of bookmarks,
this is probably the best way to save posts you want to refer to again later. Or, many of us save them as links in our lair profile pages. To make a url to this page, for example, you would use this code:
Code:
[url=http://www1.flightrising.com/forums/drw/1950229]First Nest Hatchlings Wanted![/url]
You paste in the url address from your browser after the equal sign, and type in a note or reminder for the name after the first ] symbol, and you’ll always be able to find the forum thread you’re looking for.
Curious about what "scry" means?
The different genes are available to sort of preview
here. This is one of my favorite features on the site. A lot of us have resorted to calling it the cry shop though because playing around with this tool shows off sooo many awesome color/gene combos- it can lead to some huge breeding and gene projects. At least you don't have to actually buy the genes though XD
Many of us, myself included, have kind of taken to playing the game by picking "project dragons" and spending most of our game time and treasure/gems on picking and choosing new
gene scrolls,
but a whole lot of times I've wondered if I'm playing the game wrong (OMG it's so expensive LOL) Breeding projects, in a way, can be more fun and fulfilling, but they take a bit of time and some careful management lol.

If you're not sure how to use the scry shop, Copy the ID number found under your dragon's name, and then go to the "Scrying Workshop" found under the Library category on the navigation bar to the left (or click
here ;D ). Paste the number into the open text field and click Load Dragon. Now you can change all of the genes and even the breed around until you find the perfect genes for your dragon.
If you'd like to, share the results here ( =D ) Right-click the image of your dragon once you're happy with the design, and pick Copy Image Address. Then, come back here to your post and click on the little tree icon on the post's editing tool bar. Paste the text into the open text field and click okay. Your dragon will now show here! (you can use the preview button on the bottom left to make sure it worked.)
side note: You can't change colors though! While the Predict Morphology scry shop allows you to change colors, you can't actually pick and choose colors for your dragons, per se. This is a fun way to see what all is possible though ^^
AND, breed change scrolls that allow you to make a dragon an Imperial are nearly impossible to get! They were only released way way back and no longer available otherwise save for the one or two (w/e) that still surface and are occasionally for sale- I don't even want to guess how much they might go for though. I've never seen one for sale myself- perhaps they have all been used up by now...
So, you will likely have more hatchlings to sell soon. Maybe you're even thinking about making a hatchery? But maybe you're not sure yet how to go about it. You're not the only one! The question comes up pretty often so I thought I'd share the answer I often give here...
Quote:
I am not exactly an expert by any means XD I can share a little of what I do know... ask enough of us and make a sort of formula of your own out of it, and you could do very well at the whole hatchery thing- I've noticed many breeders have increased prices successfully more and more these days! ...to the tune of 500 gems and more... o.o
So, from what I've noticed, great/successful hatcheries have a few things in common:
- They have a template they stick to throughout. This usually includes:
- a way to look up the breeding pair/parents,
- a visual idea of the color ranges for the three genes,
- maybe the odds of getting the parents' genes if there are different genes between the two.
- This will also often include three or four examples of the possible offspring.
- They often have at least some sort of graphics in use. Something to make the thread interesting, eye-catching, pretty... but not too much as to take attention away from the dragons XD
- They keep the thread active by bumping it about once a day. If you build an affiliates section, you can help bump others' threads and they will bump yours, keeping it active more often.
- You can place a signature-sized version of at least one of the hatchlings for sale in your forum signature line that links back to your hatchery/sales thread. Or make (or order from other players) a little graphic like a small banner to advertise your hatchery ^.^
Here is a list of tools you can use to do these various things:
This one allows you to see color ranges, gene rarity/outcomes, and even makes a pretty decent breeding card
This is much like the above, but it's slick, and elegant, and I really am impressed with the work they did to build this tool. I love to share it! It is a touch more complicated though, and make sure to use the default shape icon- the other shapes won't work, sadly. The other tools this user makes are fantastic too, btw ^.^
This user contributes an impressively large collection of free resources for use in bios, and more! You might find some of the graphics and elements useful for decorating your hatchery
This user made some great apps of sorts that build much of the forum code for you! This makes updating and creating those signature line ads nice and easy, as you can just place in the ID number and the app makes the rest of the code for you. You can swap out the dragon's url (linking back to the lair) for the hatchery's instead so that when people click on it, they are directed to your thread.
You can get custom created graphics made for your shop too. I tried that from
this user, but there are many! The
art forums and
creative corner forums are good places to find shops like this.
The
guides forum is another great resource for hatcheries (as well as everything else in the game of course- good thing the "forum search" works now) XD
Coliseum Leveling Guide
Tomo’s Trivia Guide
Baldwin’s Cauldron Guide
Swipps and Baldwin’s items Guide (though no longer up to date, still useful ^^)
a handy tool that helps you see the specific colors you can expect from a breeding pair
A more in-depth but similar tool that include genes rarity/odds
speaking of, here is a full explanation of rarities
There are many more Guides available; there is bound to be something to help with whatever you’re needing.
Make fancy bios with pre-made, free templates!
Also, be sure to check the
Raffle forums, and your flight’s private thread! Many groups and individuals will be holding fun raffles and free give-a-ways! I got about a dozen dragons when I first joined for free. This is also how I learned the most about how to play the game, and of how awesome this community is.
That’s about it for now I suppose XD
Thank you for visiting, and I really hope to see awesome hatchlings soon ^^
More cool things to see!
