In what must now be considered a tradition, messengers have once again scattered across Sorneith, delivering scrolls sealed with the symbol of the Earthshaker to clan leaders, and posting bulletins in each Flight’s public gathering areas. The scrolls, all written identically, read thusly:

Dragons of Sorneith -

As is tradition, the last of the year’s festivals, Rockbreaker’s Ceremony, approaches. We, the Earth Flight, invite all flights to return to Dragonhome this holiday for the annual feast in honor of the Earthshaker.

This special feast will be supplied in part by the Earth Flight, but we are also encouraging all flights and clans to bring with them their favorite recipes! In years past we have been truly amazed by the wonderful cuisine of clans from across the lands, and we look forward to enjoying them again soon. In thanks of your attendance and gift of food, we will in turn offer gifts and prizes to those clans that amaze us with their culinary skills. This is a contest of good will, for the ultimate goal is to provide cheer and foster friendship between the clans.

Please, come home and celebrate with us this Rockbreaker’s Ceremony.

The Earth Flight

Clans far and wide are soon abuzz with news of the feast and recollections of past delicacies. The greatest chefs in all Sorneith begin to gather their supplies for the long journey to Dragonhome. Closer to home, the Snapper clans of the hidden city have set to work, with hopes of creating a sweet surprise for the visitors...

[size=1][s]*reserves this because uh...working on it!* I'm cooking a full Thanksgiving Dinner this year (after sharing cooking duty for "Thanksgiving Lunch" last weekend) and will tentatively be making turkey with gravy (but maybe not stuffing), prime rib, mashed potatoes, corn (haven't decided what kind), with special requests for Beef Wellington and Green Been Casserole...neither of which I really care about, nor, more importantly, my brother cares about, so I'm not sure if I'm going to move into that direction. Wine is something out of the cellar (pretty much all Napa Valleys at this point). I'm also contemplating baking a special cake. I'm the only one in the family who likes sweets though, so I may either do some cookies I could pop right in, ones I could make before hand, something not sweet, or a pudding type deal! @SullenEarth I realized while making my second batch of this for the night I could just take a pic with my UN.

Entrant Name: LilyBound
Name of Entry: Blackened Garlic Pork Loin Steaks/FR Name: Earthen Boar Rocks
Recipe and Description:
Unfortunately I've continued to be an idiot who has picture problems, but in the first batch, you'll get gorgeous pieces of black garlic and pepper flakes around, making the steak look like an actual rock. The visual pairs really well with the earthy taste of the blackened garlic and but brought to life by the memory of red pepper flakes. I just went for a more blackened look to fit with the Earth Flight theme. There is absolutely no burnt taste to this. Also, this can be a very kitchen-newb friendly recipe!
Ingredients:
  • 2.5 lbs of boneless pork loin (cut into 1/4 inch steaks)
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 6 oz Chicken Stock (low sodium recommended)
  • 3/4 teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon Chipotle Chile (optional)
  • 2 larger cloves of garlic, or 3 regular cloves, diced
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • a crack of black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon Mediterranean Sea Salt (OPTIONAL)

Instructions:
  1. Put pan of choice on stove, set stove to high heat and wait for the pan to heat.
  2. Add butter to the pan, wait for it to melt completely
  3. Toss garlic into the pan, stir around
  4. Toss in red pepper flakes, stir
  5. When the garlic starts to brown, add in the pork loin steaks
  6. Brown pork loin steaks (can brown both sides or just one) and season with smoked paprika and chipotle chile
  7. Add in chicken stock (I use enough to bring the liquid level to at least half the steak's height)
  8. Lower heat to Medium-Low
  9. Cover and return to flip steaks occasionally.
  10. Cook until the center is approximately 145 degrees F. ~20 minutes, but be safe! Overcooked is better than undercooked
  11. Plate with black pepper. If in a serious rush, add salt to the liquid in the pan and spoon onto the steaks. If not, then do not add salt, turn heat up to high, and simply reduce the liquid in the pan to desired consistency.

@SullenEarth I have a question, if you don't mind - would I be allowed to have other people help with the cooking? Like, say, cook something with the help of my mom and my sister.

@SullenEarth

Hey my friend! So how "original" does the recipe need to be? I'm planning on a dessert that's not... I didn't invent it, basically, but I'm going to Earth-theme it up so it's appropriately Rockbreaker-tastic. Should I just go ahead and submit, and if it's not unique enough y'all can disqualify it later on?

@Zelan As long as you are basically in charge of it and they are helping you (rather than the other way around) I think that should be fine.

@Mudcat Your unique take on an existing recipe is fine! Recipes that are passed down through families are also great; I mostly just want to be sure people have put a little thought and effort into it.
