Do the dragons just leave your lair to fight with the deities? Are you doing a bloody sacrifice when you exalt them?

If there's an answer, link it to me please.

The former, although I suppose there's also an argument for dragons dying and their spirits going to serve their respective deities.

In fact, the dying explanation might even make more sense since you do send them to their fates naked and penniless. They certainly don't need material things anymore if they're going to be dead.

I mean, I'm not too much into the lore/mechanics of this game, but I'm almost positive you're sending them off to fight with your flight, and that's how flights get dominance ranks every week

All I know from my time is Plague is that they get thrown into the pus-pit.

All the dergs exalted to Lady Shadow bake cookies!
...
Then again, some of them don't know how to cook...
Where do you think we get our ingredients from?

"Send this dragon directly to serve under your flight's elemental god. Such a high honor will remove them from your lair forever."

Quoted directly from the tool when you hover your mouse over the "Exalt" button of an eligible dragon.

Also, directly quoted from any exalted dragon's page:

"This dragon was exalted to the ranks of the [deity] where they now serve a higher cause."

On the Dominance page: "These dragons leave their home lairs to forever serve under their elemental deity, using their combined power to help combat the other flights, as well as the newly-emboldened Beastclan hordes."

Also keep in mind that, unlike with humans who will use "going to live with god" as a metaphor for death, dragon gods are visible, physical beings, and if you have an ancient lair, you are literally your god's neighbor. There's no reason you can't headcanon that your deity occasionally sends one of their exalted down to your lair to borrow a cup of sugar in order to serve the cause of Dominance!

Some people have darker headcanons, but anything above the above is just that, a player's personal headcanon. If a person enjoys making it into something darker and more negative than the actual lore, that's fine, as long as they don't try to force those headcanons on me by going around insisting that I'm "murdering dragons" or whatnot by exalting them.

@Virhekappale if you want the official take on exalting, here's a screenshot from the Dominance page. You can read for yourself, but the way it is described here, exalting is not a literal bloody sacrifice but rather a homeleaving of sorts where the dragons are honored by serving directly under the deity. I think people forget that in any other context, 'exalt' is a term with reverence and respect. You could think of them like soldiers who leave home to fight in noble battles abroad. The soldiers are honored and respected. The reason they leave behind some money when they leave is because they will not need these things on the frontlines since their respective deity will provide for them (like the army does for its soldiers. Soldiers don't leave home with clothes and stuff, the army provides gear and stuff for them). Yes, you could think of exalting as sending them to their deaths, but I think of that scene in Mulan where the soldier comes to the Fa house and asks for people to represent the Fa family in the war against the Huns, to protect China's borders. It's a action associated with honor and to a certain effect, duty to your respective deity. Edit: I got beaten to the punch and some people have said this a little more concisely but oh well!

@Slyjinks None of those quotes rule out the possibility that "leaving" means the dragons in question are dying in order to serve their gods. The wording is pretty ambiguous the way it is. The gods are visible, physical, beings, sure--- that's no reason that they can't have gigantic spirit armies battling each other.

Your headcanon is no more valid than mine. And that's fine.
