Do the dragons just leave your lair to fight with the deities? Are you doing a bloody sacrifice when you exalt them?

The former, although I suppose there's also an argument for dragons dying and their spirits going to serve their respective deities.
In fact, the dying explanation might even make more sense since you do send them to their fates naked and penniless. They certainly don't need material things anymore if they're going to be dead.

I mean, I'm not too much into the lore/mechanics of this game, but I'm almost positive you're sending them off to fight with your flight, and that's how flights get dominance ranks every week

If a person enjoys making it into something darker and more negative than the actual lore, that's fine, as long as they don't try to force those headcanons on me by going around insisting that I'm "murdering dragons" or whatnot by exalting them.

You can read for yourself, but the way it is described here, exalting is [i]not[/i] a literal bloody sacrifice but rather a homeleaving of sorts where the dragons are honored by serving directly under the deity. I think people forget that in any other context, 'exalt' is a term with reverence and respect.
You could think of them like soldiers who leave home to fight in noble battles abroad. The soldiers are honored and respected. The reason they leave behind some money when they leave is because they will not need these things on the frontlines since their respective deity will provide for them (like the army does for its soldiers. Soldiers don't leave home with clothes and stuff, the army provides gear and stuff for them).
Yes, you could think of exalting as sending them to their deaths, but I think of that scene in Mulan where the soldier comes to the Fa house and asks for people to represent the Fa family in the war against the Huns, to protect China's borders. It's a action associated with honor and to a certain effect, duty to your respective deity.
