So Riot of rot, and for all the new people Plague's holiday is up next month. Now usually there tends to be a lot of drama because of gore and such but that's not what this is about. So last year due to some drama it was suggested to make zombie skins/accents because those were a popular thing. But issue with that is, that isn't what our flight is about, matter of fact Plague bringer HATES dead things.

A quote from undel herself regarding emperors "Correct. Plaguebringer would not be a fan of emperors most likely. Plague's whole idea is the triumph through survival of the fittest. Emperors are not alive, have not survived, and cannot evolve."

So yeah Plague flight is NOT about zombies or undead things, no offensive to those who enjoy it I'm not trying to stiffle creativity and such but yeah when it comes to the flight holidays skins and accents have to match the flight's theme and undead things just aren't a part of plague

Thank you for reading

Okay so some people in the thread are missing the point and even claim Plague is about Death and decay, while our aesthetic suggest that, our lore does not. Plague is about survival under hasrh conditions basically. That's why zombies don't really belong, they also by the laws of biology aren't really alive.

According to biology something is alive if it does any of the following: Move, breath, need to eat/drink, reproduce and grow. Zombies only eat and move they don;t grow, breath or reproduce.

Yes this is a magical fantasy world with magical creatures but even those abide to logic and rules

Again No, I'm not saying nobody should make zombie/necromancer/undead skins or accents but as someone pointed out entering them for ROR would be shooting yourself in the foot. If someone did enter a zombie accent/skin and won I'd not feel upset about it just disapointed because it has nothing to do with our lore. Plus these skins can be made every other time of the year why make one for ROR specifically?

Not to mention the only cannon lore on zombies FR has are Emperors and a mention of them in Earth flight's lore and I quote:

Cairnstone rest:

Once an ancient burial ground, the Cairnstone Rest possesses the richest gem deposits in Dragonhome. Prospectors take care to avoid the imposing obelisks and standing stones, heeding well the warnings left for tomb robbers; however, in the digging of mines and expanding lairs, accidents can happen, and more than one clan has been driven from the area by skeletal wyrms. Creatures and dragons have been drawn to the battleground, calling for more to take arms either to defend their living and dead kin, or cull the intruders before too much harm is done.

Some suggestions for alternate "zombies" that would fit the plague theme more:

By mada: A dragon kept together by spider webs or insects, the bugs would keep the dragon toegther while the dragon would protect the bugs and allow the insect to share whatever prey it takes down

Many other users suggested these things:

Various plants and fungi are able to control the brain of a living creature (Cordyceps would be a popular one) Think parasect from pokemon the mushroom is pretty much controlling the pokemon and those pupiless eyes look pretty dead to me

Parasites also wok, bacteria and amoeba would too, though the latter two would be hrder to show in a skin or accent but it's a suggestion.

Sure these dragons wouldn't be zombies in a rotting stitched together corpse sense but they would still be zombies

Regarding the blood problem there's also two solutions:
- It's clear that it's not the dragon itself that is bleeding/in pain
- The goo doesn't look like blood (different colour)

Also I'm seconding the "no zombies please" request as stated above. I kept out of the drama last year for the most part but zombies really are not what Plague is about so please let's have as few zombie submissions as possible.

Mutations and Bone armors are generally a nice idea for RoR :)

I remember the drama, hard to believe it was an entire year ago.

I agree though, zombies are incredibly oversaturated in my opinion, and Plague is a flight that's full of creative interpretation as there's many ways you could incorporate disease or unnatural bodily mutation into a skin/accent design. I want to enter again this year, but I don't know when I'll have a submission posted because there's so much to take inspiration from.

It's also why I don't particularly like zombie submissions, because I feel that they cut corners when it comes to accurately depicting Plague's ideals - as stated, it's not what Plague is about. It's about overcoming adversity and continuing to live despite all the odds, which the concept of undeath defeats the entire point of.

(But that's just my opinion, not trying to step on any toes. I'm just saying, I'd also like to see people flexing their creative muscles this Riot.)

@Forelle

Yeah, I think it's more or less okay if it's clear the blood doesn't belong to the dragon itself, I'm very tempted to make a candy/pastel gore submission XD

@Takora

Yes! i love me some good mutation and bone armor stuff! :D (Come on admins can we get some more bone apparel up in here xD) though I do find it a bit weird that mutations/parasites and all that are allowed even though that is also suffering. But it's FR double standards everywhere XD

@Viperidaemon (love ur username) Tell me about it, the entries last year were also pretty...eh, so i hope we'll have some good ones this year. I was thinking to do a prosthetic limb type submission, since plague dragons use bones of their fallen foes for various things who says they don't make fake limbs out of them? XD but I'll have to see how it goes i'm not the best artist around haha.

I don't mind zombie skins, but it just struck me as odd (and many others as well) that Undel herself suggested to make zombie skins because "they were popular" even though she herself said that Plague bringer dislikes zombies and that's not what plague is about. Just...what?

I also hope I'm not stepping on any toes here, mean I don't mind them and i even like zombie/necromancer related skins but yeah they just aren't a plague thing...XD

Well said. I was rather disappointed last year that zombie skins were kind of encouraged as it goes against plague lore. I understood the admins were doing so to prevent the issue with blood and guts and skins/accents that suggest suffering, but still. There's plenty of areas in the lore to take inspiration from:
The plague dragons of the Scarred Wasteland are survivors. They prefer to be as strong and adaptable as the plague they spread. Of all the dragons, plague dragons are the most savage, and celebrate the cycle of life and death by constantly pitting themselves against the other elements. The bones and armor of their enemies are their favored treasures. The god of the Plague Flight is the Plaguebringer.

Like a wound in the center of the world, the Scarred Wasteland continues a campaign of destruction that began in an age where the Plaguebringer only had one enemy: her sister the Gladekeeper. Rot and runaway viruses pulse through the landscape, infecting the terrain as it spreads ever outward in a sick spiral of death and decay. The Wandering Contagion Like an expansive festering scar, the edges of the Filthy One's domain have taken on a border conquest of their own. Tendrils and membranes, thick and resilient, still creep into every pockmark and outcropping of land they can find. It will not be long until the encroachment begins to threaten foreign clans and flights. The Abiding Boneyard The arid, growing wastes that make up the majority of this land are broad and deadly, even for denizens hardened by biological adaptation. Few plague dragons make the trek from the thriving borderlands to the cauldron at the heart of the region, but those that do tell stories of travelers becoming lost for centuries, or even eternity. Rotrock Rim It is said that the ring of this immense crater is both a welcome sight and bittersweet image of pilgrims who challenge themselves in the boneyard. As with the borderlands, life - if it can be called that - thrives here. The long-forgotten indigenous shrubs and trees now silhouette this sudden upturn of earth in their new forms: twisted, grotesque, and pulsing. Alien roots and branches converge in a writhing, pestilent garden that reaches and strains for its food source at the heart of the pit. The Wyrmwound A veritable cauldron of disease, churned by the Plaguebringer herself, to design and release experimental strains of never-ending calamity. Even the dragons who settle along the crater's edge stay clear of this pustule lake, wary that any contact could wipe them out, or turn them into something monstrous.

Not everything can be healed. The apocalypse had done more than spur the rejuvenation of flora: the fauna still rotted, left to fester upon the soil, and spoil in the dreadful warmth. Death leveraged the excess energy in another way. Where nature could not mend, decay took its place. Putrid film soaked and crept across the ground, enveloping everything in its path. Whole structures creaked and fell under the weight of the empowered rot that now infected them. This contagion continued its wave of domination, scouring every corpse and every bit of food. Weaker plants and bodies of water fell sick with filth, and the cycle intensified with each new fallen organism. A runaway viral infection coursed through the veins of the world. This scourge wrapped around the fallen, ripping away flesh and tearing marrow into a blighted tornado of destruction. Within time, the contamination had taken on a ghastly shape. It haunted the land in the form of a spectral drake, gnarled with veins, pustules and sharpened bone. This harbinger -the Plaguebringer- tested the worth of every sign of regrowth as she scoured over the surface of the realm, leaving behind a frightening scarred wasteland. It did not take long for the wyrms to encounter one another; each was torn away from their polarized campaigns after sensing the nearness of their nemesis. While the land healed and fell ill all around them, the deities of nature and plague embroiled themselves in vicious, unending combat. Thick roots and brambles wrapped themselves around the Plaguebringer’s legs and arms, chaining her to the earth, only to wither and melt away at her defiling touch. Contagion reached and groped at the Gladekeeper’s every move, but she countered with razor-sharp torrents of bladed leaves and piercing branches. The land took on the hues of red and green as the two sparred and tumbled eternally. Hilltops and cliffs were torn asunder, replaced with lush tropical gardens or seething, stinking, bone piles. Chaos seemed the only constant.
Or from the various item descriptions

The Wandering Contagion
Like an expansive festering scar, the edges of the Filthy One's domain have taken on a border conquest of their own. Tendrils and membranes, thick and resilient, still creep into every pockmark and outcropping of land they can find. Rotrock Rim
It is said that the ring of this immense crater is both a welcome sight and bittersweet image of pilgrims who challenge themselves in the boneyard. As with the borderlands, life - if it can be called that - thrives here. A veritable cauldron of disease, churned by the Plaguebringer herself, to design and release experimental strains of never-ending calamity. Even the dragons who settle along the crater's edge stay clear of this pustule lake, wary that any contact could wipe them out, or turn them into something monstrous.
