TOPIC | Gene pairs: which does it better?

Primary and secondary genes now always come in sets to match each other. It's common to pair the two matching genes together, but it's also possible to split them up. Some people prefer the primary of the pair, and some people prefer the secondary. For others, it's on a case by case basis of species, colors, etc. What do you think? I'm going to post the gene pairs in alphabetical order (of the primary gene). Have a look: you might discover new things about genes you've seen before. ----- ARC VS LOOP BAR VS DAUB BOA VS SADDLE BOULDER VS MYRID BRIGHT VS VIVID CANDYCANE VS SUGARPLUM CHECKERS VS CHESS CHERUB VS SERAPH CHEVRON VS ARROW CLOWN VS EYE SPOTS CRYSTAL VS FACET DIAMOND VS SPADE FADE VS BLEND FALCON VS PEREGRINE FLAUNT VS FLARE GIRAFFE VS HEX GROUND VS FISSURE IRIDESCENT VS SHIMMER JAGUAR VS ROSETTE JUPITER VS SATURN LACED VS EDGED LEOPARD VS CLOUDED LIONFISH VS NOXTIDE MARBLE VS MOTTLE METALLIC VS ALLOY MOSAIC VS BREAKUP OCTOPUS VS RINGS ORB VS WEAVER PETALS VS BUTTERFLY PHANTOM VS SPIRIT PHARAOH VS SARCOPHAGUS PIEBALD VS PAINT PINSTRIPE VS TRAIL POISON VS TOXIN PYTHON VS MORPH RAGGED VS TEAR RIBBON VS EEL RIPPLE VS CURRENT SAVANNAH VS SAFARI SHAGGY VS STREAK SHELL VS WEB SKINK VS SPINNER SLIME VS SLUDGE SPECKLE VS FRECKLE SPHINXMOTH VS HAWKMOTH STARMAP VS CONSTELLATION STITCHED VS PATCHWORK SWIRL VS MARBLED TAPIR VS STRIATION TIDE VS FOAM TIGER VS STRIPES VIPERA VS HYPNOTIC WASP VS BEE WOLF VS PACK ----- I want to hear your opinions about gene pairs! However, for my opinion: I think they're equally as good!

Mmmmmkay Y’all, as far as

Savannah/Safari is concerned.

Gonna say it straight up. Can’t stand it. I hate the safari.

Reason: If I wanted a secondary that covered like 17% of my dragons secondary gene area, I’d be hyped. Safari does just that. Look at all 17% of that dragon being covered. Great.
I’d rather just leave my dragons secondary basic compared to having safari.
I like my genes to cover my dragon. Thanks.

Arc/Loop: Arc looks busy on the body. I like that design better on the wings and hair. Secondary wins.

Bar/Daub: Bar is more striking, but Daub meshes better with other genes. Tie.

Bright/Vivid: I like the mane gradient a lot and I don't like the polka dot design on the body. Secondary wins.

Candycane/Sugarplum: Candycane has nice organic striping. Sugarplum looks artificial. Primary wins.

Cherub/Seraph: Seraph was designed long before Cherub, and it's nowhere as intricate and varied. Primary wins.

Chevron/Arrow: I like the design much better on the body and face. Primary wins.

Clown/Eye Spots: Eye Spots is rather plain, but it can go with other genes. Clown is very hard to work with. Secondary wins.

Crystal/Facet: Love them both. Tie.

Fade/Blend: I like the gradient on the head and tail. Primary wins.

Falcon/Peregrine: Peregrine was designed long before Falcon, and it looks way more detailed and realistic. Secondary wins.

Giraffe/Hex: Both are very similar. Tie.

Iridescent/Shimmer: It's pretty much Basic+. Tie.

Jaguar/Rosette: I love the eyeliner that Jaguar has. Rosette, though, can easily end up looking like a skin condition. Primary wins.

Jupiter/Saturn: Jupiter darkens the face and makes the dragon's colors look much deeper and bolder. Saturn doesn't. Primary wins.

Laced/Edged: I like the scaly pattern better on the body. Primary wins.

Leopard/Clouded: Both are nauseating to me. Tie.

Lionfish/Noxtide: I like the bolder body patterns over the subtler wing patterns. Primary wins.

Marble/Mottle: Mottle is extremely small and plain. I like the denser patterning of Marble better. Primary wins.

Metallic/Alloy: Metallic just tends to look gross to me, like the dragon was shrink-wrapped. Alloy looks a lot more natural. Secondary wins.

Mosaic/Breakup: I can't stand Mosaic. Breakup's mane and frill striping can be pretty. Secondary wins.

Petals/Butterfly: Butterfly looks a lot more natural and meshes better with other genes, especially Cherub. Secondary wins.

Phantom/Spirit: Spirit just doesn't do much, IMO. Primary wins.

Piebald/Paint: It's just Basic with white splotches. Tie.

Pinstripe/Trail: Both are interesting, but I prefer the "eye" markings of Trail. Secondary wins.

Poison/Toxin: I adore Poison's mask markings, but Toxin's simpler design works better with other genes. Tie.

Python/Morph: I like the head markings of Python. Primary wins.

Ragged/Tear: I like the subtler patterning of Tear more. Secondary wins.

Ripple/Current: Ripple gets extremely dark, while Current stays more consistently colored. If I want a ripply gene that deepens a dragon's colors, I prefer Jupiter. Secondary wins.

Savannah/Safari: Safari has its uses if you want a plain striped wing, but Savannah's detail blows it out of the water. Primary wins.

Shaggy/Streak. Shaggy's markings on the limbs and flanks are very pleasing. Primary wins.

Shell/Web: Shell is quite possibly the most beautiful gene on the site. Web's mane texture is kind of odd... Primary wins.

Skink/Spinner: I like the body markings that Skink gives a lot better than the wing markings from Spinner. Primary wins.

Slime/Sludge: Odd ducks that tend to clash if not paired together. Tie.

Speckle/Freckle: Both of them tend to look like a terrible skin condition. Tie.

Sphinxmoth/Hawkmoth: Not a fan of the very dark and bold body markings. The mane striping is cool. Secondary wins.

Starmap/Constellation: Starmap tends to only match with Constellation. Constellation is more versatile. Secondary wins.

Stitched/Patchwork: Really weird genes. The secondary is more versatile as it implies mods or pairs to wings; it looks very abnormal on the body. Secondary wins.

Swirl/Marbled: I have no strong feelings on either. Tie.

Tapir/Striation: Tapir creates such strong markings on the face that it can blot out the original lineart. Striation is much more subtle. Secondary wins.

Tiger/Stripes: Stripes is nice if you want a plainer secondary that isn't just Basic, but it just doesn't compare to Tiger. Primary wins.

Vipera/Hypnotic: Both are odd ducks. Hypnotic is extremely busy and there's very few dragons that I like it on. Primary wins.

Wasp/Bee: Both are interesting, but Bee's translucency can work against it. I love wasp's facial markings and sparkly belly. Primary wins.

Results: 10 ties, 18 primary, 13 secondary.
Arc/Loop: Arc looks busy on the body. I like that design better on the wings and hair. Secondary wins.

Bar/Daub: Bar is more striking, but Daub meshes better with other genes. Tie.
