Ever wanted to write lore for your clan? Don't know where to start? Start here! I have all kinds of weekly lore prompts to help you out! Do one or do them all. Every little detail helps. If you’re an advanced player that already has basic lore down, this is an opportunity to polish up that thing you wrote a few years ago. This week is your week to really think about the details of the topic and bring your clan to life! There will be a different topic every Friday so you can work on it at your leisure but gives a little nudge towards working on lore. Setting aside time for lore writing is very important, so think of this as your FR homework and try to do it at a certain time on the same day of the week. Getting a schedule down makes it so you actually work on lore. Not… how I did it and wait two years before writing the next bit to a story... The goal of this series will be to release a different topic each week and be finished with the basics of clan lore within 6 months so anyone can participate no matter how far along you are currently. Above all, this is a place to share the lore you have created focusing on the week's topic and discuss it with others. If you get stuck on a particular aspect, bouncing ideas off of someone else can help. Let’s build our Sornieth together.

Rituals and Celebrations Today's topic is all about milestones and parties! Woo! Now that you know what a typical day is, let’s explore non-typical days. 1. What kinds of milestone rituals does your clan practice? Examples: Hatching (Birth), Naming, Coming-Of-Age, Bonding (Marriage), Death, Burial Sites. Here’s a good link exploring these in depth for however detailed you want to make this. 2. Are there rituals unique to your clan? Does your clan honor rituals from other flights? As an example, the eggs of nature dragons bloom before hatching. The parents preserve the flower in amber and give it to the young dragon when they come of age. Would this kind of practice happen if the family move to Ice? 2. What kind of celebrations do they practice? Do they celebrate FR’s festivals? Are your dragons religious? Are there things not allowed in the lair? Certain foods they can’t eat due to practice? Do they practice sacrifice?

Coral Reef Rituals and Celebrations
  • When dragons are old enough for responsibilities in the clan, they become apprentices. They may choose which job to apprentice and they may try several jobs to find work that suits them. When a dragon finally decides on a permanent position, there is a huge party thrown on the beach and the entire clan celebrates.

  • Anniversaries are a big deal in the Coral Reef clan. Particularly the anniversary of the clan being formed by Oceania and SandDune. Its a holiday for all. There are games and parties and feasts and dancing to all hours of the night around a huge bonfire on the beach. Gifts are exchanged. Many, many stories are told about the beginning days of the clan. Everyone gets a chance to share how they came to live on the reef. No one minds hearing these stories over and over every year, rather they rejoice at how they all ended up here together.

Side note - Because this is an annual celebration for the entire clan, the coral reef contracts out for a security team to protect their borders for the entire week leading up to the anniversary and a few days past. This way, the clan can focus on preparing and enjoying themselves and not have to worry about being attacked while everyone is preoccupied. (Not that anyone ever attacks them, they just are cautious because Sornieth can be a dangerous place.)

  • Rituals are not really a thing on the reef. Guardians do go on the Search for their Charge, but thats a personal thing, not a clan thing.

  • Flight festivals - Every month the clan sends a delegation to the Sornieth realm that is celebrating its festival. Dragons apply in advance to be included in the delegation. Everyone in the clan is eligible with priority given to any dragons native to that realm. Sometimes the delegations are small (not many want to go to the Scarred Wasteland) while some delegations are huge (everybody wants to go to the Nature festival, but someone has to stay home to attend to the reef). For the Water festival, everyone attends at least one day, some make time to spend a little time every day.
