Okay! The topic for this thread is for all of those genes/breeds/colors you'd never want in your lair. Can be for any reason, any at all. If this thread isn't in the right place, mods/admins, feel free to move it.

I used to not be fond of Faes, Coatls, Wildclaws, or Snappers, but they've grown on me. (I'm still Mirror/Guardian/Ridgie trash, though). However, as much as I love my lone Wildclaw, Taffy, after seeing what a drain on my meat stores she is, I probably won't be getting another one for the foreseeable future.

Personally, I don't hate any colors except the really bright ones, and even those can work with the right dragons and genes. No dragon is ugly. I still don't understand the hype behind obsidian/obsidian/obsidian or ice/ice/ice, though.

At least, that's what I thought...and then I found out capsule existed. Just...what?! Where is your organs, child!?

There's nothing in my brain I can dig up to justify capsule in my lore...if that's what the cool kids are calling headcanon these days.

The colors and shimmer of capsule can be really pretty when done right, but for me it's ruined by the mental gymnastics involved. Gross. There will never be any capsule dragons in my lair who are not immediately getting their tert removed or changed.

Next up are crystal and facet. Nothing against these genes or the people who like them, they're just hard on my eyes. Maybe one or the other, but never both on the same dragon.

Filigree and Fireflies can look pretty, but they're not my cup of tea.

I used to hate gembond because I lurked on the ugly dragons side of the FR fandom, but after seeing some fine examples of gembond dragons and the lore potential behind it, it's grown on me. I hope to one day get a gembond dragon and then unleash all the lore ideas I have trapped in my brain, waiting to be released and wreak havoc on the poor derg. Be free, my children.

I do not like snappers they're just so derpy. I used tk really not like tundras but my flambebe js growing on me. As for genes - Firefly man. I mean if you have a yellow range tert yes but any other colour just looks awful. Gembond I must admit i like on a few dergs! But can we all agree that firefly is... uohhhhgg

EDIT: I forgot capsule existed. Why does it exist. Why is it a gene. How does it exist. Mods pls explain the physicalities of this gene. IT HURTS MY BRAIN.

hruhg, i cannot even start to explain how much i hate gembond.
i mean, sure, it's like gems encrusted on a dragon's body, but it looks so... inelegant. just really uncomfortable for the dragon in question, since... all those hard edges...
if you really are looking for a good, gem-looking gene, go for opal! so much smoother, prettier, and much, much more elegant overall! also, way better for lore. just sayin.

oh! capsule. sure, science absolutely DOES NOT agree with the physics of capsule where the H E C C are your organs, kid but it looks amazing! the lore possibilities are endless. why, it's even comedy relief! i'm pretty sure there was a thread a while back advertising... snapper capsule pools. totally not going to dissolve your hatchies. totally.

i know that these dragons have an unusually large fanbase... but TUNDRAS. tundras just... get under my skin. i mean, how do they protect themselves? how do they regulate their temperature? i'm pretty sure that they would sweat to death in any other region other than ice. no gene looks natural on them, and god knows i hate basic. seriously though. the genes i really like, such as met/all, capsule, opal, and jag/ros just look so weird on them.

filigree and firefly are two genes i haven't been able to test out on any dragon yet, since i am eternally broke. but they do seem cool, nonetheless.

and while we are on the topic of dragon genes and stuff, can i just point out the fact once again that light primal eyes look like "omae wo shinderu?"

I'm not a big fan of tundras, ridgebacks, nocturnes, or guardians but I won't necessarily rush out to do a breed change if they look good.

for genes I'm a bit more picky. I don't really like: rosette, jaguar, hypnotic, jupiter, saturn, clown, giraffe, hex, falcon, daub, seraph, contour, circuit, smirch, crackle, or thylacine. poison/toxic look great on the right dragons, but most of the time I don't like it. ...and now that it's written out like that, looks like a lot o_o but again, if the dragon looks good with the genes, I won't be in a rush to get rid of it.

colours, I'm less picky with. I have my preferences (grey-scale, dark and warm colours, not a huuuuge fan of pastel or eyeburners) but. you know. some dragons make it work!

Bright, intense pink. And Smirch. But most of all... Hypnotic. Not once, ever. Ughhh.

I don't like Capsule for the same reasons you don't (it doesn't make any sense??? and the way the liquid rests is so distinctly unnatural), but there are a few dragons where it's so subtle that I can tolerate it.

Gembond's interesting. It can be used well as stone, which it often is, but I find that it's very inelegant and clumpy on breeds that existed before the gene was released. Dragons that came after the initial release have more symmetric placement of gems, especially on the wings - Skydancers, Coatls, Nocturnes, and Bogsneaks.
