TOPIC | How do you put exalting into your lore?

I have two different ideas, but I can't decide which one to use.
Do you not mention said exalted dragons, lore them as dead, or lore it as like, a sacrifice to the gods or something?

Meh, sometimes I write them as dead for that sob story,
other times they're working for dominance/their deity.

I like D&D
i'll make this better soon
Usually when I exalt dragons, it's the exact same as site canon lore - they got sent off to serve their deity. Generally it's viewed as a high honor, but some dragons are bitter about it after getting loved ones sent away

Situational. Are they dead in someone else's lore with no plans on a comeback? Exalt and write them off as dead in lore. MIA forever? Exalt. Leave to fight/serve a deity? Exalt. Born in a breeding challenge where lore isn't involved? Exalt.

It just depends on the lore as to why the dragon is gone. I don't let exaltion serve as a single road when a dragon needs to disappear, since there are multiple reasons they're just not there.

In my lore, exalted dragons are dead, but not all dead dragons are exalted.
(I have a couple that are in my Hibernal den since I want to preserve their lore.)

Edit: Specifically, I only exalt dragons that are lorewise "dead" if there's some reason they can't be resurrected. Like a Shadetouched ate them or something. Usually, in my lair, permadeath pretty much isn't a thing.

Some leave to fight the War and bring glory to the clan.
Some serve the gods in any number of different ways. Research, collecting resources.
Some leave in disgrace, never to be heard from again.
Some die. In battle, sacrificed, accidents.
Some are 'married off' and lose contact with the original clan.
Some become hermits or wanderers.
Some are missed. Some are forgotten.

I don't necessarily lore the mechanic as what it is meant to be, it's more like a 'point of no return' for the dragon.
As for exalting itself, it can be both service and sacrifice. It depends on what the deity demands at the moment.

Some of my exalted dragons are considered dead for lore reasons but the others either left to join another clan or went to work under a deity (either willingly or because they had to for whatever reason.)

They're not dead. They just went to hang out with whichever deity we're serving at that particular point in time. (I'm getting ready to switch from Lightning to Arcane, so Bossdad has a bunch of my babies and Spacedad will be getting my future babies.)

Well it depends on the dragon. Have them be dead/on a journey or quite literally exalted.
The Queen before my current one while exalted, is considered dead.
Where as a previous dragon I had is out exploring trying to find a home in Plague.
And the dragons I level and exalt are actually sent off to work for Shadowmum c:

I'm trying to find other unique ideas but it's actually kind of limiting...
