i thought that there was a chance for familiars to run away when you bonded with them but the chance got lower as they leveled up and got more comfortable with you

imagine, like, booleans and ks fams running away and some random person finds, like, a cog frog in scavenging, successfully bonds with it and never finds out where it came from.
like, sure it'd be a good way to keep retired familiars in inactive lairs in circulation without adding more, but... chaos. imagine finding, like, a light sprite but it runs away on your last turn of bonding before it being awakened

Oh OUCH that would be horrible. Imagine like, a bone fiend or something. That’s what they’re called, right?
Or gem familiars. Expensive ones. I might cry if something like that just up and disappeared, lol I usually suck at bonding every day.
