... named plague

like yo it is horrible disease that in middle ages caused more death than ww1 (as much I know)
when I was joining FR, name was just offputting to me because of that. now I got used to it but still--- it is odd to me

unless I am missing smth? I know flight is about survival and congratz to those who survived plague in middle ages, ya family and friends are probably gone tho :D yay

edit
k I get it, plague isn't just reffering to disease, I said that already and no need ro repeat it. sorry not everyone is good with english. and yes I know there is more plague diseases. in my mind it seemed that flight is named by one disease, like I said in one respond - like if Water flight was named as Lake flight but still reffered to all waters

A quick google search of the definition of the word gives you:

plague
/ple??/

noun
1.
a contagious bacterial disease characterized by fever and delirium, typically with the formation of buboes ( bubonic plague ) and sometimes infection of the lungs ( pneumonic plague ).
2.
an unusually large number of insects or animals infesting a place and causing damage.

pretty sure the 2nd part is more our flight, as the wasteland spreads according to canon lore (can fleshy tendrils grow tho..?? Is mom secretly just auntie gladekeeper in a halloween costume who grows strangely coloured roots across the land in an attempt to cover the whole planet with plants??) :')

Plague doesn't refer to just the outbreak in the middle ages, it's a contagious disease that still exists (and is easily treatable with antibiotics). Considering the Plague flight has a lot of lore about diseases and spreading them, I'd say it's a fitting name.

ohh that is def cool :o

@Beastface
it is still most known for that and what damage it caused. I did heard today it isn't such of problem, but if you come to random people and say plague, many will be "oh hecc no, horrible stuff" XD

Yeah, how the tendrils are supposed to grow into the sea of a thousand currents I dunno tho, unless they become like mangrove roots I suppose xD

But yeah as stated as well, while the bubonic plague is the most well-known one, there are different types of plagues. When I hear plague my brain actually first just thinks "A disease that's very contagious and widespread" (which is..really just a pandemic but my brain isn't exactly the smartest lol. the bubonic plague was a pandemic so that's probably why it makes that connection) :)
okay well I lied, the very first thing my brain thinks of is Flight Rising and my flight but shh. let's pretend I'm not obsessed by this game shall we~

thats sort of the point i think? pestilence and illness and decay are sort of plagues thing, it only makes sense to name it something with such a knee-jerk reaction of "oh yuck, horrible stuff". the connotation alone is what helps drive the imagery. you knew what plague was when you read the word, a certain image popped into your head, and so you knew what plagues aesthetic was. same with shadow or nature.

if i remain lost & die on a cross
at least i wasn't born in a manger
But also! Consider the 10(?) plagues in Egypt

That could be a pretty good lore opportunity

@Eridan
it just sounds weirdly (at least to me) specific to pick one disease, or it rather sounded until I heard other meaning of term haha

I think it's pretty rare to associate the word plague with solely the Black Death... which is the more usual name for it anyway, at least in the UK.

Plague, even the primary disease meaning, isn't one disease. It's a significant group of them. The word has also been in the public consciousness for a long time as a semi-synonym for an epidemic - think games like Plague Inc.
