TOPIC | Oh god what have I just thought?
So, I was thinking about how breed change scrolls worked, if they were painful to go through, etc. etc.

And that lead me to thinking about what happens to the insides of the dragon, does it just... shrink? What about the fact that different breeds have to have different digestive tracks for different diets?

But then.

But then.

This popped into my head:

WHERE DOES THE BLOOD GO?!?!?!?!?

An imp has a lot more blood than a fae does, right? the blood can't just shrink or change shape like bones and organs can, SO WHERE DOES IT GO?!!?!?

Is there just like, a downpour of blood on some poor random clan every time an imp changes into a fae??? Like, a torrent of blood just rains down on some poor unexpecting dragon and they're just "Oh, good for them! Hope they have a great time as a fae :)" and just carry on with their day???

This is genuinely distressing to me and idk why. I can't stop thinking about it.

Some people headcanon the change as something gradual, but otherwise it might just... poof away?

Also, if bones and organs can shrink, why can't blood? If we're already assuming there's a possible loss of mass, I don't see why blood is exempt.

This is canon and describes the process as a gradual change, not that it really answers the question. Edit: corrected by Reilata
@SuperHappy Actually it's the opposite! Other than Baldwin, changes are generally instantaneous.
Baldwin's gradual transformation was fascinating. It wasn't uncommon for dragons to utilize magic-imbued scrolls to change themselves, but those worked nearly instantaneously, and were only successful if one focused all of their own internal magical energy into the process. Seeing someone go through it over the course of a month was very alien, and appeared quite physically taxing.

I imagine they just baaaaarf it all up, if big > small, or make a lot more and suddenly have to eat a lot of red meat for small > big. Was gonna draw this as a comic way back, but decided it might be TOO gross for FR, even as a plagueling myself. ;;

Well what did you think the Wandering Contagion was for? It's a biomass bank for breed changes. Small to large? Borrow a bit. Large to small? Give a bit back. It's the circle of life!
