- contact the breeder of one of your dragons and incorporate their lore (if any) into your own? Or maybe make their dragons out to be 'not good guys'?

I have a boy with both parents unnamed and I was thinking of making him sort of a 'run away' from his flight (he's light, so he's far from home in plague). I was thinking of making him not remember his parents, or maybe he was pushed away due to illness, and he made it to plague and ended up surviving his illness and joined my clan.

I don't want to be rude to the owner of his parents (insinuating those dragons are bad parents), so I thought of asking permission first? Is that ok or do people not like that?

When writing lore, I usually don't take this into account though I can see where this is coming from, especially if the parents are active. I don't think it'd hurt to ask, lore is lore and I don't think anyone could be mad about this.

I generally ask permission before I do it, but as a person with a clan whose lore is interconnected with basically all my friends', I'm one of those people who encourages it. It all really depends on the person.

All my dragons are g1s so I can make their parents as awful as I want :')

I think it's up to you, really. If the parents have lore and your planned lore conflicts with theirs, there's nothing inherently wrong with that; the dragon is yours to do with as you will, continuity or no. If you wanted to specifically include the parents' lore with your derg, I can't think of many reasons someone would be offended by that haha.

I would definitely ask! Whenever I've had dragons with lore parents and messaged people, they're usually eager to collab, or have their lore referenced!

I think it might be a little daunting if the parents don't have lore, but I still think it'd be in good taste to ask if they'd be alright with their dragons being portrayed that way. And, if they're not okay with it, you can always just have... Other hypothetical parents or something? But it's not as if you can name-names here anyways.

And there's nothing wrong with having dragons completely disconnected from their parent's lore anyways. I think if the person cares enough and sees the dragon getting loved with independent lore, it's nbd how connected it is!

I definitely have a derg with both parents unnamed and I made her lore basically that she doesn't really remember her parents or home clan. I never contacted the breeder but I kind of assume that if they're unnamed then they are usually not bothered with lore.
On the other hand, I remember once seeing that a hatchling I sold had lore of it's mother being cruel. I basically though "Aw" for a moment cause obvs I love my dergs but then it didn't bother me because it was in a home where someone cares enough to give them a story.

I think generally people are touched when you incorporate their parents' lore into yours, but usually don't mind if the kids' lore is totally unrelated either. Personally, I don't take others' lore into account at all. I don't have any "terrible parents" stories, but if I did, I'd probably take a look at the in-game parents just to see, but ultimately I don't think of in-game parents as necessarily being lore parents, if that makes sense. They can be, but they don't have to be. So I'd kinda just do what I want. If someone has a problem with it, they can bring it up with me themselves, and then I'd probably say exactly what I just did, that the parents I'm talking about aren't their dragons.

Unless you look at that person's page and its obvious they keep track of all their hatchlings, very organised with lore, etc. I don't see the need to ask permission!
Of course, if the parents have lore and you're using that and making them seem villainous from it,, yes to permission but overall I've voided/made parents bad and haven't got an angry letter as of yet. Honestly, I'd be touched seeing one of my hatchlings given lore no matter what it was about (in fr rules,,, of course)

You bought them, so their former owner has no say in what you do with them. That includes giving them lore that doesn't fit with the parents' lore. If you want it to connect, though, I'd definitely ask first.

I've had people use my dragons as terrible 'parents' before. I couldn't say why. [looks at Hatred, Despair, Anger, Violence, Fear, and Doubt] [emoji=mirror size=1]
