For somewhere in the region of three months or more, I have been scavenging in Shadow daily to try to get a Shadow egg for my hibden. I used at least five turns a day in there, usually more.
Today, I finally scored an egg!
Time to trade it in and be free of this...

I didn't focus my scavenging on the hibden eggs. WHat I did instead was use my gathering for all the other hibden tasks and instead trade coli eggs for the specific ones I needed.

i am dreading getting to that part of the hibden quests. ill be thinking about all those lovely gems im basically throwing into the void just so i can house more gen1s ill never gene :(

I feel for this so emphatically. The egg tasks in the hibden are... oof. I respect the gene tasks as treasure sinks, but [I]why[/I]? Leab my eggos alone! I've thrown three or four eggs at it so far... but it hungers more than I can provide.

Nobody wants to tell you why discipline is so important. Discipline is the strongest form of self-love. It is ignoring current pleasures for bigger rewards to come. It's loving yourself enough to give yourself everything you've ever wanted.
It's not that bad - the two bosses it asks for (deeprealm hunter and hydra) are ones that have relatively high drop rates. Imagine if it wanted a Goldenbeast… or a Stone Borer...

Yeah, same here. I’ll sell them or trade them if I need money fastish, but generally I hold on to at least one of every element just to have.
