Obviously I need treasure for various site-related things, you can't brew genes or buy tickets with only gems (and I'm glad you cant, I love that the conversion rate is 100% user set)

But gems have a lot of bonuses, imo - sometimes, gem-things end up cheaper than treasure things even with the conversion rate being what it is. Easy example is hatchies - if the floor is 5kt, if it's treasure, you can undercut by 1t, if it's gems, you have to undercut for the equivalent of 1000t. I usually end up buying/selling fodder in treasure, because of the narrower undercuts, and even 1t can mean someone buys your giant batch of fodder instead of the other person's, but treasure IS taxed.

I sell almost everything >50kt/g in gems to avoid the tax, and to have a currency that only goes up in value, unless I really need treasure. (Ran my treasure supply dry once by brewing+selling genes for ONLY gems. Don't be me. Hold mixed currency. Sometimes the treasure price is 60kt and the gem price is 90g.)

Back to the title, though - do any of you have treasure as your preferred currency? I'd imagine it might be a little more popular among MP snipers? Or do you convert your moneys to gems in the end?

I'm gonna breed change all the deities into Wildclaws.
Looking to buy a 5 digit, btw!
at the moment i'm mostly preferring gems since i have a dozen projects that require gem genes and scrolls, and the g:t ratio is nuts right now

however since i'm hoarding all my gems, i try to buy everything else in treasure! i usually sell things in gems just to avoid taxes lol

treasure is almost everyone's preferred currency until your net worth is up over 10 million treasure or so

for new players its much more convenient i think

lots of players use my exchange to dump their gems they get because they dont want gems

I've started selling fodder for t instead of g recently. I always make a bit more that way XD

I sell baldwin mats for g and convert that to treasure if need be

I tend to go 50/50. For more expensive stuff I deal in gems, but for almost anything coli related (fodder, etc) I stick to treasure. I do like having some gems on me at all times just in case I see an especially good deal in the AH though.

Any mid- to high-end Auction House dealings inevitably run into the treasure tax. Though, that's not to say there isn't a market there. Especially the high-end, I don't see much point losing 800,000 treasure and listing daily for a sale. And yeah, having treasure on hand is important for taking advantage of only-treasure sellers, like the Marketplace when new treasure genes, apparel, familiars come out [emoji=pearlcatcher winking size=2] I'll sell for whatever is going to get me more though, unless I think buyers are only looking to buy in one currency. A lot of users lined up for their next impulse buy don't necessarily have treasure, and they probably outnumber impulsive gem buyers. I have a strong suspicion that people impulsively buying gems, with irl currency, often have something in mind. Undercutting is "easier" with treasure, but for me that's all trivial amounts. I'll barely list things under 10,000 treasure and that's to clear things out quickly and definitely. People aren't blind, they know a one treasure undercut is basically the same price as the other listing. You'll get the "whatever's first crowd", yeah, but if the market is selling fast then it can profitable to list higher. First is cheapest, but who cares when the buyers will clear out 30 items before you get another to sell. When I've gone all in one Marketplace restocking, I can run out of treasure, and then I've definitely leaned towards selling for treasure. Getting a good rate for gems is slow and takes a lot of transactions usually (when we're talking about tens of thousands of gems value to swap, only one hundred should be easy).

I usually use treasure to buy things. If I need gems, then I will buy it from a player here. I just find treasure to be easy to earn and just prefer to use it overall. The Auction House, I know you can sell things for gems but I just like to add on to my treasure. You can’t really earn gems as much as treasure if you don’t consider the Auction House. If I need to convert to gems with treasure, then I will do that instead of using the Auction House to gain gems.

I like treasure genes and breeds more than gem ones, so yeah! I do need some pet/butt and a coatl scroll, though, and I'll never be able to save up for those at the rate I make and spend gems.

Who can take tomorrow, dip it in a dream, separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream?

The candyman can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good.

I’ll use gems for bigger things (like > 30-50kT) esp on the AH (treasure tax, as others have mentioned) and treasure for the smaller, though I’ll often mix and match both or have specific preferences for specific things (ex whether or not I sell food or familiars for t/g).

When I’m buying stuff from other players, I almost always use treasure even if I calculate numbers using gems because the math is smaller and nicer looking. On the AH, I’ll check both and see if one is noticeably cheaper, but if they’re about the same I’ll do treasure whenever possible.

Basically, yeah, treasure is my main, but it’s always good to have a healthy supply of gems. Never know when you’ll need them.
