I'm bored so in honor of the new rock drops here's a list of a few of the Flight Rising rocks I've collected in my vault versus photos of what they look like in real life (though many of them only look this way polished) ----- Shale: [item=shale] Obsidian: [item=obsidian] Labradorite: [item=labradorite] Hematite (tumbled, not raw): [item=hematite] Igneous Flow (from pahoehoe flow) [item=igneous flow] Celestine: [item=celestine] Rhodochrosite: [item=rhodochrosite] Beautiful Boulder: [item=beautiful boulder]

@AnacronicCobra That is the most beautiful boulder I've ever seen. Edit: Also gonna point out that Sornieth's microcline is so much prettier than Earth's. [item=microcline] vs.

OH BOY WE GOT ROCKS! [item=orthoclase] Orthoclase is also called pink granite, as it typically makes up the pink chunks in granite. It's a very pretty rock that we use for ceramics and when grows mixed in with orthoclase and albite, it becomes labradorite or moonstone. The reason labradorite has so many beautiful color flashes is because of tons of layers of slightly different minerals piled up on top of each other, bending light in different ways to make us see the brilliant colors. This effect is called labradorescence!

@Chaosarceus Orthoclase is potassium feldspar (or "k-spar" informally in most geologic circles)! Labradorite is typically plagioclase-series, though. They're close, but I haven't found anything to suggest orthoclase can form labradorite. Where'd you learn about that? I'll see what I can find out in my mineralogy class next quarter!

I walked in here to see pretty rocks and got slapped in the face with geology terms lol.

That being said, thanks for showing this! Some of these look really cool.

I love pings! Don't be afraid to ping me; I tend to miss a lot of replies, even if they're right after my own post, so please, please ping if you want me to see!
