So like, I LOVE food. A lot. And I also love dragons, and thinking about dragon lore.
I would love to hear some of your ideas on traditional dragon recipes and cuisines, whether it be by breed, flight, or geographical locations.

Here's a few of my general ones:
- In my lore, grains, wheat, rice, bread, pastas, etc are a thing on Sornieth! They're not super common yet (farming instead of pure hunting and gathering is somewhat new) but they're great because most dragons can eat and digest them despite their other dietary requirements. (There are exceptions though, some dragons still need a gluten free diet).

- Same with cheese and dairy. It's still new, but more and more clans have started raising cattle! Cheese is seen as a special treat.

- Much like real life, there are examples of restaurants that have cuisine from a specific area or flight. In my clan, I have a fire restaurant and a light restaurant!

Some specific breed/ flight food headcanons:

- A very traditional Ridgeback meal is fish stew, often served in a cactus bowl. Has sardines, octopus, shrimp, and another type of main fish, often swordfish, tuna, or cod.

- Ridgebacks also love big skewers of shallots, crab and lobster. Served with a hint of lemon and a small scoop of rice and seaweed. (I like seafood, can you tell?)

- Fire flight food is EXTREMELY spicy. A traditional Coatl meal is fried eel served with spicy noodles, peppers, and lots of herbs. Hope you have a glass of water on hand for fire flight food!

- Tundras love berry salads. They make great deserts and cakes. Some of their food might be too sweet for other dragons, though...

-Tundras also love eating their plants fresh. You will often see whole tree branches on plates, covered in a light berry sauce, with many fruits and veggies. Sometimes roasted on an open fire.

- Gaolers love having big charcuterie boards of food. They don't often eat in large groups (they're too focused on their work!) But when they do, its a feast. They have big platters of fresh (and mostly raw) meat and fruits from picked around the area. It's a messy, but fun and social event!

- Wind cuisine has a lot of insects in it. A favorite food among Skydancers and spirals is bamboo branches filled with delicious worms, ants, and beetles. Often used like a straw!

- Wind also has a lot of pasta dishes, with lots of berries and nuts mixed in.

- Light flight food has a lot of this new fancy bread and dairy in it. Pearlcatchers love having warm bread with butter, cheese, and jam on top.

- Light is also famous for its delicious drinks. Ginger tea, with honey and lemongrass is it's most famous!

- Since Imperials can eat all food groups, traditional Imp food often resembles colorful sandwiches and flatbreads covered in all types of different things. The idea of eating food between two slices of bread is new and stylish!

- Mirrors conciser hunting to be an art form. There isn't a super consistent "style" of plague food, but it's often super fresh meats. Plague cuisine is known to be tough food that sometimes bites back! A lot of fun to eat.

What are some of your own ideas of food styles among different breeds and flights? I'm super interested to hear!

I’ve mentioned this before, but I firmly believe that plague flight has some of the best bread and brews due to our access to all sorts of exotic yeasts. We can ferment anything. I imagine we also will make jerky out of anything, and will probably also pickle anything.

I imagine a lot of our delicacies are served raw and perhaps slightly fermented with heavy use of all kinds of fungi; and first-time non-plague visitors are advised against them. Our flavors lean more towards savory and tangy. Our sweets are probably dried fermented fruit and (unusual) candied meats.

@Halszkaraptor I really like the idea of lots of jerky and pickled stuff in plague. Thank you for sharing!

I know some people who have a "If we can put in a jar, we will pickle it" philosophy. I think that's a perfect idea for some of my plague dragons. Candied meat sounds super delicious right now too...

Also, I'm totally going to adopt the idea that plague has some epic brews. That's a really cool idea.

I totally didn't forget that fungi were a thing

Normal food in the shifting expanse is boring, but efficient. The taste is nothing to write home about, but it'll keep you alive for a surprisingly long time. The only other special thing about it is the prevalence of cacti, which is in almost every meal. Cacti is universal because 1) it's super common and 2) it's easily the best source of water in the expanse.

Fancier lightning food is based almost entirely on flash: literally. The brighter a dish is, the more sophisticated it is. The highest class of chefs make food so bright that dragons with thinner skin or genes like capsule start glowing from the inside.

I always imagine that Lightning Flight has MREs of a sort! With the harsh desert wasteland and perpetual need for seafood, I can see a lot of Lightning dragons turning to freeze-dried ready meals in a pinch. Not very glamorous, but hey we're focused on other things over here. For anyone who doesn't know, MRE stands for Meals Ready to Eat. They're these [s]pretty gross[/s] meal kits used by militaries that contain everything you need to eat them:

Personally, plague cuisine is either alive and kicking, or it's so dead you can't even tell what it was! Just like Granny Soup makes it. Otherwise, it just isn't plague cuisine.

Why is nobody talkin about Earth food?? Despite the barren lands, I think they would have really exotic and unusual dishes. Since Snappers are from Earth, most food is probably a mix of plants and seafood. Due to the hot climate, I imagine the fishes being as colorful and diverse as in the Red Sea. They probably mostly cook cacti and agave, so I imagine most of the dishes being spicy (due to the hot climate) tropical fish mixed with herbs and desert plants. Also maybe some hummus, jerky of small desert animals, chips/nachos and etc!

Edit: Also, I think Earth would have a lot of refreshing drinks and dried/fresh figs and honeyed nuts as common deserts c:

Flight cuisine? That's something I never really thought of.

Shadow cuisine contains a lot of mushroom dishes due to the abundance of them in the Tangled Wood. Bat wings and fox meat are common delicacies. There's also a sauce that resembles the Shadowbinder's goop, which is served with many dishes.
