So I've got a new headcanon and dream dragon. Upon exposure to the modern world, Gaolers discovered these massive dragons who surely had to be for show; no surprise, especially given the ancient native to the Sunbeam Ruins. Despite similar temperaments, many Gaolers took a dislike to Imperials; something about them set them on edge. Perhaps it was the way they held power, looking down on all other dragons as if they were naturally inferior. Maybe it was something more than that...
For my particular fellow, one too many Imperials had made impassive, emotionless comments about his unkempt fur and unpleasant smell, and now it's kinda set him in a natural disposition to be unpleasant with them.
[s]Banescale rivalry is canon so I wanted to make a different one, even if it's petty LOL ...plus, too much Skyrim lately smh[/s]

Lawless is funny to consider the ones made to enforce the laws by the Icewarden.
Considering Gaolers, much like Guardians, can have thousands of pounds of muscle and mass over Imperials, I know who would win in an arm wrestling match. The only way I would see an Imperial winning, is by outright flying out of their grounded reach.
I however would hard agree that Gaolers would take issue with Imperials, especially if they know about the Emperor issue. That screams of creatures that are tainted, and best locked away.

Reilata
oh the irony
I definitely agree on the last point, Emperors are the Ultimate Taint omg...
Literally about as bad as the Shade, as either can force the deities into action /sweats

Oh I love this headcanon! If I was more serious about my lore, I'd use it

My ancestors are smiling at me, Imperial. Can you say the same?

"The Imperial breed originated from The Beacon of the Radiant Eye, though the species seems conspicuously absent from its point of origin."
I'd say, neither do you.
Though that always made me wonder about clans who reside in The Beacon ... do their Imperials have to stay out on the outskirts? Banned from the Lightweaver's presence? How smug must Pearlcatchers who reside there feel over that fact.
Though the idea in general of the Gaoler topic makes me regret that I only have one natural born Gaoler in my lair, and he's off somewhere else. :|a Thought for later.
