TOPIC | Arcanist didn't end the world
He didn't. Not even once. Here's one part of my revision of the canon lore:

The first apocalypse that ended the first age at Arcanist's birth wasn't his fault really. The reactor was built by the people of the second age and he was as much a consequence of it as the destruction was.
Additionally, the destruction wrought by the reactor explosion was limited in scale. It destroyed quite a lot, but not the whole world by far.

I think of it as that he definitely didn’t do it on purpose both times, but he himself was the accidental cause of it.

This.
The jokes are funny but I've never understood why everyone acts like he full-on destroyed the planet or something.

And they say he did it twice, at that! The return of the Shade merely shattered the Pillar, nothing more. Hell, the Shade pretty much destroyed itself upon impact, so I'm not sure how that counts as a second "end of the world."

If you read Flight Rising lore as it actually written, the Arcanist wasn't even around at all during the first age. He's the last of the dragon gods and was born when humanoids during the second age built a mega-reactor that exploded, which is probably why arcane's territory is radioactive as he would have claimed the area around where he first appeared for his own.

The only thing the Arcanist did during the third age that was a big questionable is that he's a curious deity thus went and poked at the Shade. This resulted in the Shade destroying itself, the Pillar shattering and the other dragon gods waking up.

If the Arcanist hadn't done this, the only flights available would be Arcane, Plague and Nature. The only dragon breeds available would be faes, mirrors and wildclaws. Everything else would not exist as the deities would all still be sleeping still.

The shade’s still around causing havoc because of him though. Those enemies you fight in the coli? Shade clones. Very rarely they’re just brainwashed critters and those are the ones that drop as familiars.

Not to mention whatever else the gaolers have locked up.

The Arcanist poking at the shade and causing the pillar to shatter is the equivalent of a chemistry student experimenting with the wrong chemical and having the mixture react poorly.

this. While I can see how the Arcanist messing with the shade is directly his fault, I don't get why the big reactor exploding was his. I'm pretty sure he wasn't even conscious/alive when that happened and he only woke up because of it

Eh, I kind of like that he got blamed for this mess, even if it's not really his fault. It makes for interesting lore! Maybe different flights have different myths about what actually happened, each with their own slant, and the official lore is the most third-party, neutral depiction of the history of the gods, written by some of those non-Eleven-following dragons!
