I was just sort of thinking about this and it turned out to be pretty interesting. What do dragon clans do with their dead? I know at least in earth flight, canonically speaking, they are buried given the description of Cairnstone Rest. But do they vary between flights? Any interesting head canons out there?

Hey, I know a cool thing about this! According to the Encyclopedia, Imperials have death rites that involve completely vacating the area the corpse is in. It’s another facet of their avoidance to others of their species. Haha, I wonder why Imps are so avoidant to... a bunch of them... in one place... with a body...
Oh.

I think it probably varies a lot. For nature dragons, I kind of imagine a lion-king circle of life situation happening. Dragons become magic, which feeds the plants, which then feed dragons eventually , who take care of the plants.

I imagine different flights might have different rituals involving death, though. But Its also such a deep and personal topic, i'm not really sure if theres any canon lore for it besides that burial does sometimes happen, and imps try to avoid the accidental creation of empires.

I half wonder if Light has catacombs in the Hewn City. Dark for those who's sun has set. Except Imperials. I really think part of their 'funeral rites' involves either immolation or consumption to keep things from happening.

After all, where better to shove what you don't want to think about, than the place that is filled with what can't be discerned.

My head canon is that in Arcane, we launch them into space using catapults and trubucents... unless it's someone we really don't like, then it's launch the carcass next door into Plague's soup pot.

soup. rest in yom.

or jus like

use the leather/feathers/fur/whatever and bones to make stuff. resourceful stuff so your old friend sees you through to the tomorrow they never had, or memorials- heard someone suggest once a doll of the dragon, like the plaguebringer's doll suggests. nice way to remember someone you miss, to keep them with you.

I'm in ice, but my group travels around a lot, never considering one flight 'home' over the other. Therefore, I feel like they would have their own specific customs and traditions? I'm not really sure....

my dragons feed their passed ones to the bramble that creates their lair in a special root infested tomb. Its considered an honor among them, especially if they are the lineage of the buried who feed the bramble.

Unfortunately the nature of bramble sometimes, it will claim living ones who get lost or tangled up in the brambles.

This is why the Imperial Guard was established. to protect dragons who dont know better and attempt to wander too deeply into the lair where its not constructed free of thorns and tangles and seems a lot more bramble like and less like vines and wooded halls.
