I'm trying to lore. I have a character that wants to scribble in a notebook. How does he do that D:
How do your dragons do this in your lore? Do they use claws? Their mouth? Magic?? Please tell me, I need ideas
Edit: I'm talking about a bogsneak whoops

If they have "hand-like" front legs like WC's I'd guess they use them.
For coatls and skydancers? Maybe they hold it with their tails?
Snappers are just doomed.

I would think that most species use their claws as they've all got pretty agile-looking fingers, except for Snappers, who either have a secretary like Tomo does or use some kind of levitating magic MLP: FiM style to manipulate the pencil themselves. Probably easier for Arcane and Wind Snappers to do that. IIRC it's canon that Arcane dragons can manipulate gravity and Wind dragons can manipulate air currents. This was mentioned specifically in the context of flightless breeds but if an Arcane Snapper can levitate their whole body they can levitate a pencil.

Oh wow I forgot to mention I talked about a bogsneak. Whoops don't mind me
But yeah that sounds fair. Tails is indeed another option, hadn't thought about that!

As previously mentioned, most dragon breeds do have hands/claws that are able to handle some kind of writing or drawing tool. The only exceptions I can think of are Guardians, who could quite possibly use the slim tips of their tails to write, and Snappers, who according to FR canon quite possibly might not use writing at all. They're quite fascinating in that respect, actually: they have such excellent memories that it's likely they have an oral tradition of history instead of a written one.

I'm sure they could use their tails and claws! Spirals have those little spades, and guardians have those tiny little whip tails. And then the other species have fairly pointy claws, so I'd imagine that they'd just curl around a table with a scroll and dip their claws in ink-- In my opinion, scribes would probably have a bit of a black fade on their hands from the stains of writing so much.
Alternatively, I'm sure some dragons are good at using their long horns or snouts for a bit more of an alternative for painting-- Probably the "finger painting" equivalent to claw writing. I imagine hatchlings, who're so awkwardly sized, would do that a lot better.

They either use their front talons or hold it in their mouths

i mean, lookin' at anatomy, it depends if a dragon's all fingers or all thumbs. or tails. or wings. idk.
my personal hc for banes is they just scream and smack their head into the parchment until someone else comes to transcribe for them bc that's funny, though they probably use their feet for it.
gaos, especially the gnarlhorned with extra-long claws, probably have the equivalent of using chopsticks... but for everything. maybe they just dip their claws in ink and try now to tear the parchment apart
wcs, spirals and nocs you can see with apparel to hold them all with their hands, implying they could all hold, and so write with, a quill. can an exciteable, hyperactive spiral write calmly, however, is another question.
an adept arcane mage can probably just levitate a quill and use it to write.
coatls have their strong tails they can use to hold stuff, it's probably what they use to write. faes... idk. perhaps their innate magic abilities they can use to control a quill. they've only got two digits on each hand, after all. skydancers and ridgies both can stand quad- and bipedally, so perhaps they use their hands to write as well as hold stuff. bogs, too, they've got opposable thumbs.
idk about the other breeds
