TOPIC | Breeding Gay Dragons??

Okay, this is a very goofy curiosity, haha. Like many FR folks, I'm queer, and so are many of my dragons. :P [emoji=rainbow size=1] But it can be a tricky thing in a site oriented around breeding! What do you do, in terms of in-character justification, when you want to breed dragons that you've determined are gay? There are tons of ways to handle it that are readily apparent. Myself, I have a fair amount of trans dragons, so of course an m/m or f/f couple where one of the dragons is trans could justifiably breed as expected. You can also always just decide that your breeding pair has mated specifically with the intent of procreation, without any other desire involved. What are some other ways that you've handled it with your characters? Feel free to tell me about overly specific individual situations, too, it's interesting to me. :P (Obviously this doesn't apply to bi/pan/other multi-attracted characters! I'm not simply forgetting they exist haha. I'm specifically asking how you handle breeding characters who wouldn't have any interest in mating with the "opposite" sex!)

I plan on having my two lesbeans to adopt a dragon in the future

my breeding pairs exist only to make hatchlings to sell for purely gameplay purposes, they have absolutely no relation to who's dating or attracted to who in lore.

I haven't had that specific problem yet-- rather a straight trans dragon-- but my solution is to find a G1 I like with colors in the parents' breeding range and declare them biological offspring.

Takes time to find a good one, but it has the advantage of not being subjected to RNG, so I can avoid clashing colors or obnoxious shades of pink if I want to.

don't like my dragons
I don't own the dragons in question or their offspring anymore, but the only time I actively wanted to breed gay dragons I went for surrogacy (or rather, gay dragons were part of a breeding project). Enlist the help of a friend who wasn't too interested in the kids being his but was willing to help out, bam, offspring. Unfortunately, I lost interest in the breeding project itself, so that planned lore fizzled out. Currently, I've got a permababy that I'm thinking is probably going to be adopted by one of my gay couples, but I haven't really gone through the options and decided whose kid they are, since most of them aren't too interested in children. I just really want her to have parents, since she's the only permababy I'm 100% sure on being an actual child, and figure hey, why not one of my same-sex couples, even though almost never are offspring canon in my lair in general? But also, offspring are rarely canon in my lair, so I don't worry too much about offspring lists unless I actually want the lore opportunities that come with it. [emoji=ridgeback happy size=1]

I probably wouldn't really, if for some reason I wanted to produce the color combo, I'd get a different set of dragons. I only really breed very specific pairs, and have dragons that very concretely I wont breed for lore/personality reasons.

Heck, I recreated some dragons due to them having offpsring lists and I didn't think that the idea fit with them.

If I breed one of my gay dragons or one already in a relationship, I usually see it as their children are disconnected from them in their lore. So my dragon still has no kids lore-wise, but maybe their kids do exist in my lore, but not as their offspring and just as their own dragon, maybe they're an orphan of some sort or just had different parents. Or that dragon's kids aren't blood related, but they're adopted instead.

My clan in lore, you’re required to breed to make money, but only when clan leader says. Most couples don’t see breeding as an active part of a relationship.

Breeding is not considered at all in my lore. It's totally disconnected. Very rarely are my lore dragons who I say are related actually related, or the pairs that I say are mated actually have babies. When I breed dragons, it's just to make pretty babies.
I can see this being a thing, as 'mating season' is a canonical thing, breeding is just a thing that is done regardless of attachments. There are exceptions in the 'if you touch this dragon that is mine at all ever you will be missing bodyparts' area. Being a bunch of bandits, a lot don't really do the whole relationship thing anyway.
