I know that it's common for people to force their dragons to eat plants before anything else, but why? What's the benefit to this approach as opposed to feeding as is, or forcing a different food?
Edit: I don't coli grind or buy food, my food comes from gathering alone usually. When I feed my dragons the normal way, the food that is consumed the least is meat, not plants. Currently I have between 3500 and 4000 food points in each food type, with plants having the least and seafood having the most. So why is this strategy the one I personally should be using?

I accumulate more plants than other food types while coli-ing
That's all there is to it. Most of my dragons are Imperials and that gets super expensive if I don't feed plants first.

So. Many. Plants.
Built up from endless Mire grinding. Insects are second up on the list.

I have no clue.
What I do each year is farm a bunch in the coli during NoTN and then usually I have enough food to last me to December. This year, I fall short on meat by 7000pts, Seafood by like 13000pts, and plants by 2000pts. I'm trying to figure out if I can make my food points last the rest of the year by feeding my dergs in a certain order, but I can't figure it out.
If you guys have any tips it'd be greatly appreciated, and there's no way I'm gonna buy food. Sorry, it just seems like an enormous waste of money.

Plants are cheap.

I'm currently trying to get my Foraging to L34 for the [gamedb item=25280],
so I have an excess of plant food.

I don't coli grind or buy food, I only gather, so I end up with about equal amounts of each food type.
