They are siblings. The reason why the purple one is purple and smoky is because she (in my mind, the purple one is female and the orange one is male) inherited that coloration and the smoky trait from her mom. Meanwhile, little Chip is a chip off the ol' block and resembles his father.

Now comes the question... Who is their mom?
