As you might guess from my familiar count, I am a massive completionist. I've learned to take a step back and assess whether it is a good idea to 'count' certain things or not, and whether I should avoid certain things entirely, but games like Flight Rising really do trap me with 'things you can technically complete'.

Yesterday I did a very reckless thing and made a sorted-by-source list of vistas I don't own, excluding pre-vistas-as-normality ones and the one you had to buy merch for. I'm looking at the list and thinking 'Yeah, I could do this.'. It would take over 4mT and around 6kg not even counting Baldwin, Swipp and cycled out ones. But when will I ever use over 110 vistas, many of which are very much Not My Thing. I've been using Winter, Boreal Wood and Boreal Wood II 90% of the time since vistas were introduced despite having 60+ applied.

Does anyone else find Flight Rising tempting them into buying All The Things in spite of knowing they won't get used? What are your approaches to Vistas and what do you consider 'completable', either theoretically or realistically? Have you escaped traps like this and if so how?

I am also very much a completionist!

I have escaped this trap on site skins - primarily by leaving site entirely for a year and a bit, coming back and realising I was only trying to collect them because I was bored >>;

I have yet to escape my 'collect all the familiars, maximum RNG' goal, and I don't think I ever will. If a hiatus, nearly a year of GW farming and well over a year of fishing for a Hippojay didn't kill it nothing will. Please, Hunting, be kinder.

I was tempted by vistas at one point - and still want a KS vista, but fortunately don't feel the urge to collect them.

I am still collecting old dragons - my long-term goal is to have one 4-digit of each element and a 3-digit, but barring a long-awaited offsite sale that's a very long term goal as I don't have the time I used to - and I'm willing to be relaxed about it.

@Vendrus your bestiary is spectacular! I've never really been tempted by actual dragon completionism because the obvious ways of doing that are either too easy (relative to lair space) or too unstable price-wise. I'm totally with you on site skins; it's juuuust hard enough that taking a break and thinking about catching up will make you wonder if it's worth it XD

i was once upon a time ALL about festival skins and chests. was good to finally be free of it tbh, now i barely even grind during fests haha.

familiars are an inescapable hole as far as i'm concerned. i cannot stop myself. won't ever have them all, ofc, but i can get close enough.

also g1s are a pit that surprised me. like you can't technically complete "dragons" or g1s i guess? but there are milestones to the g1 trap like having a g1 wildclaw, and buying fancy accents, and getting into doubles, or - gods forbid - a triple. i have up til now resisted the g1 wc thing, but i'm honestly contemplating investing in a triple which is stupid bc i don't like triples haha. oh well.

vistas are a wild thing to try and complete. i was trying to just have all the coli ones for a while. not applied, just in the hoard. figured that was a nice compromise to having 20934829340 vistas i don't use.

but i think the craziest one i've seen is people who try to complete the apparel sets or have one of every food item or smth like that. i mean familiars? at least there's less than 1k atm. but apparel? good gods man, enjoy THAT nightmare. i guess. not for me

mmmph. i'm not the best, or the worst.

skins i collect fest ones i might use sometime in the future, but i've never held my breath about it. i only go for comissions/fest rejects if it's a fandragon. more on them to come...

as for familiars, well, i've no burning desire to keep them, or to do it quickly, which is why i'm happy to throw things at the HD tasks, and while normal fams and bosses i do make a note to keep, hard-to-obtain yet gettable ones like the sprites i won't collect, 'cause i just don't like them. i do want two ks fams, but that's just because they're cool. i know i'm never gonna get one.

vistas i have a nice chunk of, mainly because i've a lot of different dragons, and i always want the perfect vista. not that that's... always possible. things like the deity ones, though, i know i won't use, so i don't have any.

i'm no g1/oldie/whatever collector. like, i'll take the odd couple, but when it comes to spending thousands on getting this one g1 to the plan i have for an outfit or buying a near-perfect kid off the ah... i know what i'd pick.
however.
i collect fandragons. i've an entire original au of a whole game series, and one day i scried one character as a dragon and here we are.
of course, i'm pretty much required to put my all into these scries, to ignore gene and apparel price until i'm in the mp, go for the matchier fam over the cheaper one. primal imp breeding project? triple-gem-gene coatl? golden bantam fangar? commission a uma because there's just nothing like this guy's mask? yup. yup yup yup.
i'm dragging myself into hell for these projects, but it's a labour of love. i can't complain.

@reliquiaen those festival chests are sneaky! Even having firmly decided I'm not keeping them I have to sell them ASAP if they drop or they sit in my vault for months.

Apparel is... yeah, waaaay too much. I don't sell stuff I don't have dupes of unless the prices are amazing, but I'm not going out looking for the ones I don't have either XD

With you on not really liking triples for sure; I like doubles but I love XYZs that just go perfectly.

I confess I'm one of those weirdos with at least a full stack of every coli food (except GW bosses, up to 70ish on those), gathering foods I'm a little more chill about. But all that coli grinding means I've had enough dupes of all the coli vistas that I figured I might as well apply them.

@Falinks It sounds like you're doing completionism exactly how Flight Rising really intended; with dragons XD It can be expensive to go all-out on making a dragon really perfect but as someone who has trouble getting attached to dragons I think it's the right way to do it in the long run; if it's worth doing it's worth doing properly.

I confess I kept a duplicate of every spare familiar I obtained before HibDen came out, and a lot of those went into HibDen slots even before I decided not to keep it up XD

i mean stacks of coli food can't really be avoided. that hardly counts as completionism really like there's only so much food that nEEDS to be converted and only so much effort i can be bothered putting into listing food on the ah (it's zero effort i can't be bothered selling stuff ugh). so naturally that leads to having like 140 pages of food. i'm not completing food. i just... have a lot of it laksmdf;laskdfj

and now that falinks has mentioned fandragons i'm reminded that i too get kind of obsessive over having The Perfect Dragon™. some (few) are fandragons, most are original characters or amusing references. but oh my goodness; woe be upon whatever stands between me and completing my perfect dragon for whatever purpose i have in mind for it. (usually that's my wallet. gods damnit wallet u.u)

and when you mentioned the hibden i had violent flashbacks to my like year long dedication to maxing out lair space and then they added the hibden so i had to do that too. and then when i finally FINISHED THAT they ADDED TWO MORE EXPANSIONS SLKDFJ:SLDKF i still haven't done them yet. lkadsfdas one day i will. (and of course, having such an absurd amount of space led to my next project: filling it all with level 10 fodder. idk why but. profit??? at least i know when i'm done i'll be able to buy the two expansions i'm missing >.>)

@reliquiaen Hibden is a very very dangerous rabbit hole for completionism. Do I need 300 den slots for my 14 permas and total inability to own any other dragons for more than a year? No. Did I unlock them anyway at great cost? Of course I did. I'm just about resisting the ones that take straight-up currency and I can claim my 100 empty lair spaces are just a relic of my dom-enthusiast days XD But the temptation to keep expanding is strong.

EXACTLY. i think it's a huge enabler too? like i only had 50 permas before i decided to fully expand with no intention of getting more. but then suddenly i had like 500 empty spaces on my hands and oh what's that? more permas? oh okay. these be dangerous waters, lads

I am a HUGE completionist to the point where I have hundreds and thousands of hours played on my favorite video games due to my achievement hunting habits lol.

As for FR, I have to say that while I definitely am working on Awakening my familiar collection + expanding it, the fact that a lot of the collectibles in this game are outright impossible to obtain through hard work/regular play takes the wind out of the sails for me.

I could gather every Sprite, Speedy, and the other rare ones...buuuuut I will NEVER have a Boolean. The point of striving to complete things for me is the satisfaction of actually doing it, and FR's system is impossible to do this in.

I can max my lair, baldwin, and gathering though, so I'm definitely working on that as well. But I'm not actively collecting familiars anymore because...it's just futile to try and get that perfect number.
