I like to headcanon that they use their wings more like chickens. They can kinda get off the ground and get a few swipes in with their talons, but they can't fly.

Ok here’s the thing. NONE of the FR dragons have the necessary wing to body ratio to allow them to fly. It’s actually kind of ludicrous how big wings actually need to be to lift bodies off of the ground. The only reason most birds can fly is bc of their hollow bones.
The dragons here most likely have solid bones, given what we know about their various habits and combat styles (as well as their actual weights lol), so as they’re drawn, none of the dragons here would be able to fly. The wings are just drawn smaller for aesthetic reasons and so the art can fit on the site.
For example: guardians clock in at nearly a THOUSAND kilos!! You really think those wings are big enought to lift a THOUSAND KILOS even an inch of the ground?
Edit: for the record, some chickens can fly extremely well. As well as most other birds, even. It’s the very heavily feathered ones that can’t fly well

as @/Dreamson and @/Nauyak mentioned, as a chicken owner our partridge cochin has a hard time flapping her wings, while americaunas can just about fly
its probably the case of wcs preferring the ground instead of being aerial, since solid boned animals, especially ones that are huge, would have a hard time flying while weighing a lot and having non hollow bones

It's all up to you! You want them to fly? They can! Want them ground-bound? They are! It's whatever the writer chooses (if you're needing this for Lore).

I imagine Wild Claws using their wings as assistants in making sharp sprinting turns in addition to their tails bobbing and weaving everywhere, making them superior and agile hunters on the ground, perhaps more-so than a solitary Mirror.
Another thing possibly is that they use their wings for hop-glides over particularly tough pieces of terrain, or a sprinting launch off some height of a cliff and a controlled fall/glide down to escape threats or trying to catch more flying-able prey.

The only dragons I can't see flying are Snappers, Bogs, and Gaolers. All other dragons can fly to various degrees.
I like to think that they have some sort of pouch or something, kinda like fish have those pouches that keeps them.. Floating? Sunken? But it just helps them fly. How? I don't know.
Or, the easy explanation. Magic.

according to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a wildclaw should be able to fly.
the wildclaw, of course, flies anyway, because wildclaws don't care what humans think.

I mean if we gonna go like that, none of dragons flies and done, wings are cosmetic. Sornieth could have smth that makes them go easier in flight, don't see why we immidiately need to go "well dragons can't fly because this and that so duhhhh"
personaly yeah, I see wildlaws as chickens, but those that can barely fly. I see them having wings folded all the time, but also using them to show off and so
but yeah I agree with kyrin18 - it is up to you
