we've been talking a lot about our lore in FRD lately, and i'm curious if familiars exist as familiars for your lair. for me, they don't, and it's just a game mechanic. some dragons have Beastclan friends that are displayed as familiars on their profile, and i even have a dragon whose home acts as a refuge for Beastclans. that being said, none of my dragons have, for example, a "familiar" or constant companion following them through life, if that makes sense.

@atrocities extremely understandable. and the animated objects from notn are fun to think about too, like a little [item=overwatered seedling] hopping around

A few Beastclan members do exist in my lore, mostly serthis who help in the library and one who helps tend to the graveyard, but there's also a longneck wandering in there somewhere. Some of my dragons do have lore familiars as well, good faithful companions that sometimes bite.

Technically yes, they exist. But I never ever wrote a single sentence about them ever.. ok maybe on a side note.

Sometimes! It usually depends on the dragon and companion. Danyl's harpy companion is a big part of her lore, but Holm's Robotic Tender is only slotted as his companion since 1. I find it funny and 2. I like all my permas or semi-permas to have companions

Same, I almost completely ignore familiars in lore. Especially beastclan ones, it makes no sense to me to keep a sentient creature essentially as a "pet". I'm sure people that do use beastclan familiars in lore make it out to be more of an equal relationship, but it's still a very "gamey" mechanic which imo makes for boring lore regardless of whatever quirky twist you want to put on it.

I don't usually implement familiars in lore and none of my dragons have fixed familiars, but my clan has Noodle who is a familiar carer and her helper Eliaar who is a clumsy idiot.

That said, the familiars Noodle takes care of are all beastly. The humanoid familiars 100% don't exist in my lore. IMAGINE a dragon taking a full grown sapient talking Maren for a walk. In a leash. NOPE.

Yes! In my clan lore the beast clan familiars play an especially important role- since Hemlok is a merchant group the beast clan familiars are basically representatives of their own groups who want to conduct business with them.
