NEW: help suggest names for these tropes! additional description on existing tropes also welcome.
(added 2:11 AM Thursday, October 15, 2020 EDT, last edit before that was on Jul 07, 2020 22:19:33)
we're gonna do a tvtropes thing here. just list off common user lore tropes you've noticed or even used yourself, and we'll all have good fun seeing which ones we've done.
and cause i know some people are gonna take this the wrong way and get defensive, this isn't a Thing Bad thread it's a Thing Exists thread. remember in the wise words of tvtropes itself, tropes are tools. we've all used at least one. i've used several that'll be on the list. this thread is meant to be a tvtropes type of event, not an accusation or anything like that. just a list of common things for chill fun purposes. i'm doing a bad job explaining right now because i'm very depressed and having strange memory problems but you get the idea.
you can also play a checklist game with this, or use this for ideas and inspiration if you want. again, tvtropes.
the poster of the other thread like this has been gone for awhile and i think it could do with being cleaned up a little anyway so here we are. a lot of these are carried over from there but condensed.
i'll start with as many as i can think of right now, go ahead and add your own if you want:
-guardian who's charge is the clan or clan grounds, bonus if it's the progen (i think i used this way back when i was trying to make a subspecies once...)
-all bark: level 1 who can beat up anything (who doesn't have at least one)
-knife-licking mad: the edgelord stabby crazy sadistic 100% evil one who's usually an assassin and also a skydancer with blood piebald, and almost always plague
-master of poisons
-token serial killer: that one who's not really part of the clan and is almost definitely super evil but is tolerated for some reason
-wendigo
-angels/demons
-draconic divinity: dragons are gods, spirits, demigods, the shade's manifestation, or other similar non-mortal entities
-outside-genre character: dragons are robots/aliens/ect (hi synthwave)
-capsule brewery: capsule liquid is something specific like milk or orange juice, bonus points if the dragon spits the milk/fruit juice/whatever into glasses to sell it ("shifting mass of alchemical fluid and partially liquified guts that can never quite settle into shape" probably counts, eonsaar) (thanks blackvine for name)
-cold-blooded killer/the skekmal: edgelord mercenary with no feelings except for the HUNT
-omnidisciplinary scientist/inventor
-my neighbor my neighbor and me/it's a small town after all: everyone knows everyone else
-off-model anatomy: mutants and dragons who don't quite exactly match the standard site art for their breed, ranging from spirals who happen to have a thicker build and different horns than the default to dragons covered in eyes with entire extra sets of limbs. note that existing developer comments and site apparel items support this, and even a non magical species naturally has visible variation in the body types of it's members. (they're fun, why wouldn't you have mutant dragons)
-exalting is death
-dracolich: undead dragons (also fun)
-dragons that are part plant or part rock or other inanimate object (the official lore itself does this all the time)
-emperors
-our emperors are different: sentient emperors
-canon breed sizes are ignored
-reverse furry:all dragons are actually anthros, gjinkas, or just straight up humans
-what breed lore?:breed lore in general is ignored, except for pearls, emperors, charges, and sometimes memory problems
-flight ambassadors
-silk and flowerfall standard: silks and flowerfalls everywhere, even on dragons with physically demanding jobs. like the apparel version of level 1 who can beat up anything.
-anklebiter archetype: that one neon eyeburner in a sweater and googly eyes that everyone has, you know the one, the one who's named XGIVEMEYOURTOESX and has chaos god 4th wall breaking powers and a lot of fanart in their bio and they may or may not be strictly canon but they scream a lot and are probably a spiral or a male snapper in 5 different masks. comes in varying levels of intensity, from XGIVEMEYOURTOESX the god of hyperdeath to just themed around a relatively minor joke.
-adjectivenoun: warrior cats style naming schemes
-ancient deity and greek/roman/egyptian/ect character themed naming schemes
-iguanamouth syndrome: collects bones, flowers, or something along those lines (i literally have one who's only real personality trait is collecting bones)
-clan archivist, record keeper, librarian, scribe, historian, ect. who's bio is used to store wishlists and links and whatever else the owner didn't want to put in their clan bio
-the red mage: dragons with multiple elements
-born with special powers that aren't strictly canon-friendly, like shapeshifting or seeing into people's souls or dimension-hopping or speaking to elder creatures from beyond
-heterochromia
-prydwind: wind clan has an airship
-clan is a traveling performance of some kind, especially if they're wind or shadow
-ye olde rpg checkpoint town: clan is some type of inn or tavern or other rest stop for travelers
-clan is allied with the beastclans
-isle of misfit toys: clan is described as a collection of misfits, outcasts, oddballs, ect. who became family to eachother
-the jafar: the evil usurper leader who killed or kicked out the original better clan leader and now tortures everyone, which i've noticed for some reason is really really common in plague clans and nowhere else
-the same as above but the leader is the original progen rather than a usurper
-tarot teller: that one dragon's who's prominent thing and possibly even only job is being the designated tarot reader, sketchiness optional
-familiar keeper aka unofficial fiona
-the clan babysitter who looks after all the kids
-hollywood satanism for dragons: shade cult (if i wasn't too lazy and depressed to lore anymore i'd probably end up with at least one shade worshipper)
-dragon scientology: cult dedicated to other original god character, bonus points if it's represented by another dragon in the lair
-bad powers bad people: all plague and shadow dragons are evil
-token heroic orc: dragons or characters depicted in such a way in relation to their writer's typical depiction of their race/breed/faction/element/species/ect that makes it seem as if this individual is the only or at least one of the very few exceptions to their category being all evil. most commonly is token good plague and shadow dragons in lores where plague and shadow are generally written as violent and evil (whether intentionally or not).
-precursors of divine origin: progens/g1s were created directly by their deity from nothing and may or may not have special godly powers because of it

-the crystal calls/hotline to god: dragon has a personal connection to a deity
-a form i am comfortable with/protrusion into this reality: self-insert dragon (a little bit guilty)
-mandatory modern values protagonists: clan is described as or implied to have an unusually progressive culture for it's place and time in some way, for example being in-universe stated to be culturally "above" such things as flight racism or bad blood with beastclans or ect.
-the FORUM of the obscured crescent: auction house, forums, ect. treated as completely literal canonically real things
-obligatory coup-spiracy: conspiracy to overthrow the clan leader (thanks blackvine again though i didn't use exactly the suggested name)
-no flight racism, dragons of non-native elements are never suspected of being spies
-anthropocentrism: au where the second age beings were humans
-au where humans exist somewhere in the wild, possibly as beastclans
-the jyggalag: 12th elemental dragon god, who was probably forgotten or locked out of reality until now in some way unless the writer decides to just do a complete au where this god has ALWAYS been there (i literally made the shade deity au, which is edgy as hell and long overdue for a revamp. to make it even more edgy.)
-sun/moon symbolism
-Living Conduit: charged with/visibly full of/made of/a vessel for/ect their element (pretty sure i've done this but i don't remember where)
-you can be anything when you grow up: everyone has and is good at their dream job
-rpg party society: the only professions that exist are ones that you'd expect to see in d&d (it's pretty hard to not end up like this, most people including myself don't really know much about how non-fantasy adventuring party jobs work.)
-alignment on your sleeve: dragon aesthetic is a direct representation of dragon morality aka edgy looking dragons are bad and cute fluffy dragons are good (literally everyone does this always, don't worry about it)
-toxic positivity: every character is an extreme optimist except the ones that are supposed to be bad (ok this one's actually annoying)
-lore takes either a very black-and-white-morality stance on beastclans vs dragons or none at all
-the rabid ravager: violent feral plague dragon
-sea of a thousand hydrophobes: water clan lives on the shore, a ship, or an island
-and that's how i lost my medical license: evil doctor with blood wraps apparel

-assigned grandparent at birth: snappers as grandmas, guardians as grandpas
-undead and/or necromancer plague dragon (i used to have one but i sold him years ago)

-thieves' guild: mercenary/criminal clan
-wants revengeance
-natural lifestyle: nature dragon that is entirely nature themed and probably has a nature-related profession
-there is always a clan library
-the beach city: clan appears to be extremely isolated and have little to no meaningful contact with anyone or anything outside eachother and their own territory. even if other specific locations are mentioned, chances are no named characters live there and they're barely if at all developed beyond just the basic fact that they exist as a name. basically all of the named characters live in once place together and behave as if nothing else outside their community exists, with trading, wars, having relatives or friends or even knowing people in general outside the immediate area, or even having much knowledge about things and places outside the immediate area that exist, or any form of contact at all with outsiders beyond welcoming new singular named characters into the cast is absolutely never mentioned or even implied much less elaborated upon.
-drake oil salesman: traveling scam artist, which for some reason i see way more of than just straight up merchants
-dynasty history: the history of the clan's founding is the story of how the mated progens met
-transformed by some macguffin they found, seed-and-sickness style
-some type of 4th wall awareness, but not the same as XGIVEMEYOURTOESX
-an ancient monster that may or may not have been sealed away centuries ago
-nyrolian birthsign: hatched under a celestial event
-lightweaver, windsinger, gladekeeper, and flamecaller tend to be shown as overly benevolent and caring
-imperial sue and the book of plot coupons: for some reason i've noticed this really specific thing that happens in a lot of really long-running strongly interconnected and in-depth clan lores, where there's really often this one specific character, almost always a male imperial, who's extremely powerful to the point of mildly implied to outright 4th wall breaking, who always seems to be 10 steps ahead of everyone else and know exactly what's going on, and who shows up all the time to drive the plot forwards with their supernatural powers? and they usually have kind of a smug snarky elegant chaotic chessmaster personality? i don't know what's up with that but i've seen it at least 3 different times now in unrelated clan lores of wildly varying tone.
-cthulhu and the curious cat: fascinated with some sort of eldritch thing that it is most likely heavily implied they should not be touching
-the refugee/tragic deserter: fled former clan because of tragedy

-dlc zone town: clan actually lives on the moon or an island or in another dimension or something
-neuro-immuno deficiency syndrome: rare disease, which is almost definitely fictional
-drakenstein: mad scientist
-bucket of edgelords: everyone in the clan is some flavor of evil, edgy, sadistic, or insane
-no girls in the clubhouse: certain breeds banned for lore reasons
-refugee town: clan was founded to be a safe place from the elemental/beastclan war
-murderhobo: charismatic and friendly but will kill you for fun if you annoy them (thank you for name ClockworkEclipse)
-tale as old as time: progens are always mates (named by dashiedoesthings)
-chess/poker/ect themed shadow dragon
-light is good: light dragons are always good unless there's some shade stuff going on
-bethesda elemental: glitchy-themed dragons, bonus points if naomi descendants (BITEWAXTADPOLE is like halfway between this and XGIVEMEYOURTOESX)
-singer
-subspecies-based lore, though the only examples i've seen of this in awhile are hive dragons
-oozes fluid of some kind
-Sornieth 2077: lightning clan with cities and extremely advanced technology (me)(thank you for title Doughnut)
-assigned orphan: dead parents (named by dashiedoesthings)
-castaway backstory: dragon washed up in a storm as a hatchling or similar

-queen mom: absurdly specific good noble gentle strong motherly reasonable female guardian clan leader
-absurdly specific silent loyal royal guard with dark past who may or may not be clan leader's son
-absurdly specific troubled royal son of gentle guardian mom clan leader who may or may not be a traitor
-the vain one
-the oddly specific trope of the large ancient female guardian, usually the progen and/or clan founder, who sleeps forever curled around the thing that clan was founded around and/or deep in the heart of the territory in general while her friends run the clan in her absence. usually has been asleep so long she's covered in/fused with rocks/plants/ect.
--assigned cupcake at birth: dragons named and themed after food that probably run some kind of restaurant too
-primal equals power: dragon with primal or glowing eyes was blessed by their god or is overflowing with magical power or something

-stock creepypasta archetype: creepypasta theme, bonus points for zalgo text, invisibility cloaks, and skins that add extra eyes and mouths
-primal at a price: dragon with primal/glowing/faceted/ect eyes is blind, and probably traded it for magic powers
-unusually uninteresting anatomy/snowflake species: dragon with tons of eyes and other massive visible mutations is not seen as at all odd by others (technically i have a low-level version of this going on, but my version of sornieth has almost everyone displaying some level of visible mutations and hybridization to the point where the breeds are less set species and more extremely generalized body type trends that each individual's anatomical adherence to varies noticeably, so being somewhat "mutated" isn't all that weird)
-chessmaster characters in general
-the twisted cycle path of likely unintentional mental illness demonization, overlaps more often than not with 100% sadistic stabby edgemurderer with cleaver apparel and blood piebald
-lonewolf mcdarksecret: the mysterious one with a mysteriouspast who almost never speaks but is kind of a jerk to everyone
-vaporwave

-test tube baby: that one dragon who was hatched/created in a lab as a science experiment and grew up isolated that way andmay or may not have been abused
-back when bogs first came out there was a whole thing of people having g1 bogsneaks that had lore about their clan being baffled by what came out of this orphaned egg they found and/or having (possibly accidentally) created the egg itself as part of a science experiment but i don't know if that's still a thing

-tiny the terrible: that one really messed up violent f pose fae who's an unbelievably evil tyrant queen who experiments on her subjects
-high wizard jerry: dragons have normal human names like michael, joe, edgar, fiona, ect
-wings of fire naming scheme: dragons have names that are words that wouldn't normally be considered human names but are still actual words in a human language like spitfire, pearl, shimmer, quake, hellbender, burner, breeze, winterhound, panthera, ashblossom, darkness dementia raven way, ect (would add other language examples but unfortunately monolingual)
-dragons have mythology/religion themed names from sources besides gods, like scylla, achilles, ganymede, icarus, ect
-dragons are named after stars and planets which inherently overlaps with being named after mythological figures
-nature is wiccan/harry plantpot: nature lore with a lot of harry potter references or at least heavily inspired by harry potter themes, especially if the "magic school" lore listed above
-non-euclidean space trap/the backroomswhatever you call that trope where you can't leave someplace because once you hit the area limit you never move further away no matter how much you walk so you just end up walking past the same sign 50 times: clan is a collection of desperate lost travelers trapped in an eldritch location that they have no way to leave (most often earth or arcane)(named by dashiedoesthings)

-dragons are named meaningful words in a language like chinese or latin
-frazzled archivist
-merchant dragon used to hold wishlists
-hatchling from hell: murderous permababy
-fan breeds
-nomad: the wanderer one
-the law of sibling authority proximity: if there's siblings they either run a coffee shop au together or have hella drama, and which one it is depends heavily on their genetic proximity to any sort of royalty or important authority figure in lore
-mandatory pokemon: familiars are entirely literal, everyone has one
-fantasy writers and the world map have no sense of scale/it's a small world after all: travel times between areas of the world seem to be very strangely short
-there's a beastclan ambassador that's someone's familiar
-powermad mage who intends to harness/fight/absorb/host/make a deal with/overthrow/control the shade and/or a deity
-your soul is mine: literally eats or steals souls somehow, possibly to preform experiments on them in the case of more ursula-like interpretations (thanks again @blackvine)
-enforced stone age stasis: no technology allowed anywhere ever, we don't even know what lightbulbs are around here fire is scary and thomas edison was a witch if we touch a sprocket we will literally die
-token mad tinkerer party member: the single tech genius steampunk inventor guy who is the one source of technology in the otherwise no-tech clan mentioned above, but only seems to invent things like railguns and cyborgs rather than more simple and practical things like lightbulbs and sir conditioning
-sole protector: the clan's single designated guard
-token gaoler, profession=rug: the one gaoler that just hangs out sleeping in a pile somewhere just being that clan's designated gaoler
-canon sizes are for gaolers only: gaolers are always lored as significantly larger than all other breeds even though census shows they're a little smaller than guardians
-gaoler is a softie, despite all the hard no-nonsense aggressive singlemindedly shade-obsessed lore that permits literally no other life or interests outside of that structure
-there is exactly one non-insane medic and it is probably a kindly if slightly stern female skydancer who's familiar is prominently discussed
-it's literally just warrior cats
-nuzlocke lore
-someone lives in a lair with lots of dangling trinkets and plants
-pc/imp pairs
-a mirror or a skydancer shoves an imperial andis strong enough that it actually works
-imperials are unholy: imperials are special in a scary way, usually cursed
-imperials are secretly emperors
-discount emperor: imperials are conjoined twins
-build your own emperor/build-a-bomination: that one guy who's whole thing is wanting to either create, harness, or become an emperor for some reason
-how i met your familiar/sidekick spinoff/the minion movie: the dragon has a story in their bio of how they met their familiar and what their relationship with that familiar is, but it's completely disconnected from and entirely unrelated to the rest of their bio
-it's just danse: dragons do not have surnames
-dragons have warrior cats adjectivenoun surnames (freezeclaw, petalhide, sunspark, ravenbolt, shockwire, emberfell, blanchbrood, ect)
-dragons have regular words but spelled slightly differently for surnames (thundrael, entropios, illumina, bathyaal, prismati, logarthem, aquari, maelstros, ect)
-dragons have regular words with no special additions or changes for surnames (shrike, monsoon, kindle, nemesis, exajoule, lepidoptera, borealis, azimuth, ect)
-dragons have entirely made up fantasy word surnames (taxid, vaylok, aynumatzu, yikhordimir, tyekthith, ect)
-dragons surnames are references to other things, which also overlaps regularly with the other types (winterfell, atari, hookfang, neverwinter, fantasia, summerset, solaris, breezebuilder, numinex, ect)
-dragons surnames are actual human names, or something very close to actual human names or that could at least plausibly be an actual human name (octavius, warwick, blackwell, ect)
-dragon surnames are references to real famous people (voltaire, anaxagor, asimov, ect)
-dragon surnames are a non-pop culture related and non-real person related concept in real life that would be very unlikely to also exist in the world of flight rising (proxima, helios, antikythera, richter, ryuteki, ect)
-dragon surnames are other things already mentioned in flight rising (coppercoil, foxfire, voidfollow, fathomsearch, everburn, noggle, ect)
-monolairs: like our boy henry
-neuromanced: lightning flight's technology is given an upgrade to shift the aesthetic to a sleek cyberpunk noir dystopia setting and the tempest spire area is written to be a massive high-tech cyberpunk city of gleaming chrome spires in the atmospheric darkness at the center of lightning territory. distinct from lightning clan with cities and advanced technology because this concerns a specific area on the map and a more specific kind of genre shift. (personally my version is called the spire sprawl)
-tonal dissonance: one minute the lore is "beastclan familiars are prisoners that will never see their families again" and "the children are being sacrificed to god", the next it's "ha ha look at this goofy dragon who puts beans in weird places and is a 5 year old mafia boss that controls the aluminum market and is rivals with dragon james bond isn't that bizarre and silly"
-god-emperor of dragonkind: dragon is not ACTUALLY a god or any kind of supernatural being but is worshiped as one anyway, usually because they're some kind of tyrannical royalty
-riftwalker: a specific subset of not currently technically supported by canon powers where the dragon/character has the innate, often genetic ability to walk through dimensions/the astral plane/dreams/ect without the use of devices like the forbidden portal
-mad max fury ridge: the desert zones of the lightning territory are infested with raiders running on scrap technology in a way that's very similar to mad max and/or fallout
air conditioning: canonically mated pair that are designed to contrast eachother, usually visually, typically with one being dark themed and the other being lighter themed
hati and skoll: the same as above but the dragons are siblings or friends instead
what would you boys do without me: the one dragon who the entire clan would definitely fall apart without, most likely because they're literally the only person who does a specific essential job.
cancerous gembond: all cases of gembond are a disease that spreads and overtakes the body like cancer, weighing the dragon down making them unable to fly and likely eventually turning them into a statue or leading to the crystal and facet genes.
rural planet: cities don't exist, all of civilization consists of small isolated tribal "clans" of a hundred or so individuals at most scattered apart in the wild and likely subsisting on hunting/gathering lifestyle
ohana means family: clan is a word that basically means "(extended) family unit" "pack" or "small town/tribe", potentially "people you live in the same structure with"
traditional western folklore dragons: dragons are written as being more mindless violent evil monsters that exist only to destroy or take, or at least as being inherently evil
-aerith and bob: mixed naming schemes in the same lair
-mannequin catalogue: dragon has a bunch of different outfits in their bio
-sprung up from the blossoms/fallen phoenix: waking up with amnesia as a plot device
^dragon who's purpose is to be a walking laundry basket wearing all the largest most cluttered apparel pieces possible for fun. can be considered a subcategory of XGIVEMEYOURTOESX.
planimal: dragons that are part plant
inorganic growths: dragons that are naturally part rock, glass, cloth, ect or other inanimate inorganic object
immaterial biology: dragons who's bodies are naturally made up at least in part of immaterial things such as ghostly clouds, energy, thoughts, magic, dreams, ect
-site function literalism/auction house edgyfication: a dragon who's lore is centered around the interpretation of selling dragons on the ah as a very literal real in universe thing, with it being standard practice in their lore for parents to breed for "pretty" offspring and sell the ones that aren't desirable for profit. this tends to go hand in hand with insistently interpreting exaltation as a form of deadly religious human(dragon?) sacrifice and alchemy as sacrificing real live sentient beings to boil to death in baldwin's pot.
-enforced lineage and lore over-integration: site offspring and parents lists must all be adhered to 100% rigidly and if there's a single thing on there that isn't in the dragon's lore it's tainted.
-bring me your virgin orphans: g1-only lair that most likely refuses to breed, for what may or may not be lore reasons, and may or may not have lore to match all of their dragons being childless and parentless (a lot of them will probably be seraph wildclaws that are actually gods)
-accidentally eusocial: the only dragons who have canon offspring present in the lore within the lair are the progens or clan leaders, who usually have their first 3 or so offspring still present in the lair as separate lored dragons while no one else or very few others have canon descendants present, accidentally giving the impression that ether everyone is single or only the royal family is allowed to breed.
-literal gameplay and story segregation: breeding pairs are separate from lore dragons and in a separate tab, and a very specifically never given lore
-nonelemental fire breath: in lore every dragon has the ability to breathe generic non-elemental fire alongside whatever element they're associated with, because in other mythology and media dragons are stereotypically able to breathe fire as an inherent trait.
-anti-science aesop: science and technology are in some way depicted or treated as an inherently dangerous, bad, amoral, hubris-laden, ect thing that is harming the world and should be avoided. a "curiosity killed the cat" or "technology is ruining the kids" or "scientists are amoral" or "science is against nature" or "science is hubris and we will be punished for challenging our natural place in the world" kind of messaging. the kind of thing where all scientists are amoral mad aperture science workers that experiment on people and destroy the world and the introduction of any kind of advanced technology explicitly causes problems just because it's technology. unfortunately is fairly clearly the stance of the official lore, so people can hardly be blamed for following it.
-wildclaws are plague: courtesy of the strangely high amount of wildclaw ripped-wing zombie skins. are also usually sadistic hunters or ferals, with kilt, cleaver, cobweb, claws, ect apparel.
-the seekers doth protest too much: gaoler exists entirely outside the gaoler social structure because functionally that's just about the only way to have a gaoler who's lore isn't just "is a seeker" or "stands around guarding a jail cell with a horror in it" or "hunts for food in the ice cavern bubbles" or "is the janitor that cleans up the ice caves"
-light is snooty: light dragons are all vain snooty nobility types
-and they were ALL roommates: every single dragon is canonically mated to the dragon they're in a breeding pair with, often resulting in a clan where everyone is monogamous and no one is single.
-castles on the sand: dragonmade structures, dwellings, and population centers in the water flight, if mentioned, will almost always be built on the shore, and are very commonly isolated medieval-style castles on beach islands.
-radioactive isotrope: dragon emits some kind of deadly radiation, not necessarily actual radiation but anything that's similarly invisible and inherently dangerous for others to be around
-disregards all existing lore and writes their own canon entirely
-specifically disregards all plague lore, especially any part of it that implies even the possibility of social darwinism and anti-medicine sentiments or anything resembling similar kinds of harsh or dark cultural tendencies
-our fae aren't different: has a very specific hatred of the idea of faes having monotone voices and no facial expressions because they use their fins instead
-any possible dark aspects of the user's flight are ignored because they're uncomfortable
-toymaker, likely with living doll familiar
-the one permababy who all the tragic stuff happens to
-the one permababy who just appeared out of the blue one day and doesn't age, no one knows what they are or where they came from but the permababy doesn't act quite like a dragon and they are afraid. most of the time behaves as some kind of vaguely innatural trickster or just general eerie but seemingly friendly presence.
-amnesia
-the one who's just a ghost
-the dungeonmaster: the player is a real literal entity that exists within the lore usually as some sort of guiding spirit or minor god (named by dashiedoesthings)
-the absurdly specific guardian/fae royal family's youngest or third son is usually a fae and usually lored as incredibly sickly and sometimes reclusive
-sea serpent veilspun
-whalespun: veilspun are treated as being as big as if not bigger than imperials, or at the very least as being the same "person-sized" range that people who hate size differences tend to make all the other breeds
-ridgebutch: female ridgebacks are butch lesbians
-veilspun are just weird looking imperials, often to the point where actual veilspun aren't considered to exist
-veilspun set out alone before the species officially re-emerged
-veilspun spent some significant amount of time transformed into another species
-seen through the mist/lifting of the veil: some significant portion of society was actually veilspuns in disguise all along and the reemergence of the species was simply an event in which they all collectively decided to dispel their glamor illusions, or some similar event happened that caused them to be exposed for other reasons
-luminaxcon: clan literally lives on/in luminax somehow
-luminax stans: clan or group that worships luminax
-suspiciously populous emperor's wake: for an area the world map deems as being virtually uninhabited thanks to the giant zombie killing everyone that tries to set up there and personally destroying every civilization in a thousand mile radius, an awful lot of clans (even substantially sized ones with large scale infrastructure that may or may not even be designed in a way that suggests they're hidden or prepared to fend off something that big) seem to live there
the stork/family friendly breeding game: dragons breed via magic and/or booping their noses together
i don't have and idea what veilspun lore tends to be like yet i haven't really seen people writing any
tell me your new world map based lore tropes since i haven't seen any yet
if you see any bolded trope titles in this quotes section, chances are i added them in.
bonus points if you can correctly guess every single reference i've put in these trope names
seriously, tell me if you get any of the references. i'm curious.
ClockworkEclipse wrote on 2020-11-02 19:25:29:
^bonus points if they're descended from a derg like Naomi or The Beast (Ignis #666).
ClockworkEclipse wrote on 2020-11-02 19:25:29:
^Once again, bonus points if they're a descendant of Naomi or Ignis
-dragon scientology: cult dedicated to other original god character, bonus points if it's represented by another dragon in the lair
-bad powers bad people: all plague and shadow dragons are evil
-token heroic orc: dragons or characters depicted in such a way in relation to their writer's typical depiction of their race/breed/faction/element/species/ect that makes it seem as if this individual is the only or at least one of the very few exceptions to their category being all evil. most commonly is token good plague and shadow dragons in lores where plague and shadow are generally written as violent and evil (whether intentionally or not).
-precursors of divine origin: progens/g1s were created directly by their deity from nothing and may or may not have special godly powers because of it
-guardian who's charge is their mate
-possessed by some supernatural force, usually the shade
ClockworkEclipse wrote on 2020-11-02 19:25:29:
^More bonus points for Naomi and Ignis descendants.

-donut steel, the original element: has a fanmade element like time or spirit or shade

-sentient diabetes/purity sue: dragon who's entire personality is being extremely kind and sweet and flawless to an overwhelming degree
-the best assassin/mercenary in the world
-thieves' guild: mercenary/criminal clan

-colorblind to coatl: dull color coatl does not face any prejudice (i forget it's supposed to be a thing all the time)
-dlc zone town: clan actually lives on the moon or an island or in another dimension or something

-refugee town: clan was founded to be a safe place from the elemental/beastclan war

-chess/poker/ect themed shadow dragon

-bethesda elemental: glitchy-themed dragons, bonus points if naomi descendants (BITEWAXTADPOLE is like halfway between this and XGIVEMEYOURTOESX)
-singer

-united states of draconica/50 small countries in a trenchcoat: a clan formed out of smaller clans in alliance (before i got depressed i was working on filling out the world map with minor locations and npc clans that i was waitng on the map update to finalize and several of the npc clans were like this
-queen mom: absurdly specific good noble gentle strong motherly reasonable female guardian clan leader

-vaporwave

-back when bogs first came out there was a whole thing of people having g1 bogsneaks that had lore about their clan being baffled by what came out of this orphaned egg they found and/or having (possibly accidentally) created the egg itself as part of a science experiment but i don't know if that's still a thing
-the dashing sky pirate captain
-that one guy who's whole thing is just gathering herbs, frequently overlaps with master of poisons and bog witch

ClockworkEclipse wrote on 2020-11-02 19:25:29:
-The Apparel Pile:
planimal: dragons that are part plant
inorganic growths: dragons that are naturally part rock, glass, cloth, ect or other inanimate inorganic object
immaterial biology: dragons who's bodies are naturally made up at least in part of immaterial things such as ghostly clouds, energy, thoughts, magic, dreams, ect

Haha, I have a fair amount of those tropes. Here's some more I can think of:
-jeff bezos' dragon hoard: Evil dragon capitalist- the CEO of some unethical company
- Dragons repping for the enemy element (light dragons converting to shadow, nature dragons converting to plague, etc)
- Dominance is literally never mentioned in lore and might as well not be a thing, even if a lair makes mention of exaltation and believing in the 11 gods
- Ignoring a dragon's offspring and parents (I have dragons who are descendants of others in my lair but lorewise they are not connected and sometimes the kid was even alive first)
- Sealed evil in a can: some evil force/dragon/god is locked away by the good guys and may or may not be trying to escape
- A clan in which literally all of the dragons are gay couples
- Mechanic/engineer dragons, usually wearing steampunk apparel
- An edgy dragon who killed their siblings, parents, and/or or old clanmates
- why would anyone live in the scarred wasteland: A clan's physical location being in a really inhospitable place, like the middle of the desert, the bottom of the sea, or on a frigid mountain

These are good! Here's some I thought of:
Dragon is a mercenary/assassin/murderer who may or may not have killed someone in the clan, but no one seems to care.
The "good" side of opposite flights is forced to defend themselves against the evil flight. (Especially nature against plague and light against shadow.)
The clan is constantly chased/attacked by other clans.
Dragon was abandoned by parents, but was saved and adopted by clan leader/progen.
An emperor still has all the memories of all the imperials it is made up of, and is shown in the clan by a single dragon.

How about
-Wind Spiral who is stuck in a job they really don't like but they have to do it because they're good at it
-Clan of pirates that sells stolen goods and has an office building
-Seaside village, preferably in Lightning
-Magic boy who think's he's a god and has a cult but no one really likes him much
-people are eldritch to cthulhu (feel free to suggest a better way to word that): HIVEMIND dragon who is weirdly obsessed with normal dragons

A lot of those apply to me, dang
-angst-proof/unbreakable disaster magnet/iron cutie: How about “Bad things only ever happen to one specific dragon, but they’re somehow still the nicest, sanest, and most productive dragon in the lair”
Or “There is no real lair, just a bunch of dens and rooms in the void”
“Nobody has ever left the lair, ever, unless they’re Wind dragons. Then they’re never home”

My Little Veilspun: All Veilspuns are little gossip horses/and or based off MLP characters (especially Changelings).
Shorn Shame-Shortmane Veilspun (or any other maned breed) had their mane clipped as punishment for some crime.
Short Mane Mama Ay-Shortmane Veilspuns have short manes because they think it looks cool.
Gaolers and Banescales get along great with Veilspuns and hate each other.

we alone will welcome (prolly could use a better name): A step beyond isle of misfit toys, see also refugee town and mandatory modern values protagonists. The clan is structured as a port of welcome for all, especially the unwanted, described as the sole beacon of friendliness in a sea of stabby strangers. Clan amenities likely include a greeter dragon to lead new weirdos friends out of the wild, a beautifully-appointed nesting ground full of orphaned eggs and hatchies, and a whole bunch of dragons friendlier than appearances imply. Someone is already hurrying towards you with a cup of tea.
Bonus points: the tea's deescribed as some of the best in Sornieth
Double bonus points: the clan description includes any variant of "You feel strangely drawn to this place", 2nd person voice mandatory.
