TOPIC | Sornieth's Hypothetical Third Apocalypse
1 2
Okay first off? I want to apologize for the straight up nightmares I'm about to cause. Because I know it's going to happen. See, we were talking about this on Discord, and I got into a lore mood. And whoever writes the site lore? Great job, but I think you may have left one too many cliffhangers for me to work with. (Seriously though, I love reading the site lore. I probably wouldn't be here without it. Great job.)

Long story short, there are no survivors to the hypothetical third apocalypse. ALSO DISCLAIMER: NONE OF THIS ACTUALLY HAPPENS IN THE OFFICIAL SITE LORE. YES, I DID THIS COMPLETELY FOR FUN. I partly blame discord chat for putting me in a lore theory mood, but they're all awesome, and I do like lore.... But if you want to read the long story? Scroll down, it's there.

I am going to have SO much regret tomorrow........

So let's look at where the flights are now. Light and Shadow would most likely be at an equal standpoint with each other, attempting to deal with the Emperor (which is still in the Sunbeam Ruins last we heard). Same with Nature and Plague. Ice and Fire, based on recent lore, are preparing for a war over territory — the Ashfall Waste has been expanding, which led to the Southern Icefields melting away, plus these two flights both have awakened ancients at this time.

Water is automatically in a neutral position, due to their current lack of a deity. Wind is a relatively peaceful Flight, Earth is dealing with mysterious underground monsters, Arcane is keeping an eye on changes in ley lines across Sornieth. And Lightning is building a reactor — we don't know why, but we know it's messing with Arcane's studies.

Now, I personally find Lightning interesting. The reactor they're building is supposedly "the largest and best reactor to have ever been built" — which implies that its much larger than the Second Age reactor that created the Arcanist.... and we all know what happened there.

At this point in time, Arcane is the only one who suspects Lightning of doing anything, and only Shadow and Light know about the emperor. This is where the canon lore cuts off — Tidelord missing, Emperor roaming, reactor rising, and destruction looming. Now here is where it gets fun.

Let's start with Arcane and Lightning. Seeing as Arcane is the only one who even suspects Lightning at this time, they'd almost certainly send out a scout, messenger, or courier to see what's up. But they have to cross three, maybe four elemental territories depending on which path they take to get to the Shifting Expanse, and just that would take days — months even, if you factor in general dangers, rest stops, warring clans, Beastclans, etc. So let's face it, by the time anyone from the Starfall Isles makes it to the Shifting Expanse, it will probably be too late.

Now let's go back to the Emperor for a moment. It's currently in the Sunbeam Ruins, and its elements are Wind, Light, and Fire. Now of course we don't know how Emperors behave; nobody has been able to study them long enough without getting killed. But let's assume they have a habit of revenge, like dragons. Light Flight is currently tracking the Emperor, and Shadow Flight is slowly getting involved. So after destroying Light, it goes after Shadow.

Now that Light is gone, near completely destroyed by the Emperor, Shadow has four options. They can ask Nature or Plague for help, but those two are preparing for a complete game of death — Shadow would have a better chance of getting killed in the crossfire. They could ask Water Flight, but they're preoccupied in the search for their deity. So they go to the next nearest Flight, Earth, who at this point is probably more than willing to abandon their territory thanks to the underground monsters living there. Shadow and Earth ally, but get pinned between an Emperor, underground monsters, and the war between Nature and Plague. Shadow and Earth ultimately get destroyed, and few dragons manage to flee.

Nature and Plague, with an Emperor now added to their war, ultimately try to ally, but the two Flights have hurt each other by now that they're no match for the Emperor. They ultimately get destroyed, and the Emperor continues to wander until it finds its next victim.

By this time, he deities are starting to get involved. Earthshaker, Plaguebringer, Gladekeeper, Shadowbinder, and Lightweaver seek revenge for their destroyed Flights, and join together to defeat the Emperor. They are successful; however the peace doesn't last long, and Plaguebringer and Gladekeeper soon continue the fight that they started ages ago, just before the shattering of the Pillar of the World. This time, Shadowbinder, Lightweaver, and Earthshaker are there. Earthshaker tries to stop the fight, which results in Plaguebringer and Gladekeeper attacking him as well; meanwhile Shadowbinder is getting revenge at Lightweaver for creating the Emperor. New elements and new deities are created during the fight — however the warring deities don't notice; the new deities, not knowing anything else, join the fight.

At this point, all the warring in Sornieth summons the Shade that everyone thought was destroyed, and just as it did many ages ago, it attracts to the points of most concentrated magic in Sornieth — the warring deities and the Lightning reactor.

The Shade, as we know, is attracted to chaos, and as a result is often the cause of chaos. It gets attracted to the warring deities, and between them and the Shade their Flights are destroyed completely. Any survivors are now left without an element; their eyes turn grey, they solidify into stone, and crumble away. Dragons in other Flights notice this, and the deities are on high alert.

I mentioned the Shade is attracted to the Lightning reactor, which, as I said before, is even more powerful than the Second Age reactor. And the Shade likes destruction and chaos, as that's all it's ever known, so guess what? BIG BOOM. Everything gets destroyed; the only survivors are the few remaining deities and those dragons who were in the deepest, darkest parts of the ocean and the underground.

Stormcatcher knows the truth — it was his reactor, combined with the power of the Shade, that destroyed everything. But he wants to avoid the blame, so he points at Arcanist. Flamecaller, however, knows the truth, and blames Stormcatcher. Icewarden jumps in, partly to blame Stormcatcher and partly to go against Flamecaller. However the explosion also awakened the monsters Icewarden had been hiding away, so the other two turn against him and create a three-sided war. Windsinger, like Earthshaker, tries to step in and stop the fighting, but this attracts the Shade again — and the deities, already weakened from the explosion, are destroyed, as well as their Flights.

This leaves us with Arcanist. He, along with the few survivors in his Flight, flee Sornieth, traveling instead to another world. They thrive in this world, alone together, a planet of pure Arcane. However they won't last long — without the other Flights to keep them in check, Arcane's curiosity will ultimately lead to their destruction, because as we all know, curiosity didn't stop at the cat.

As for Tidelord? He is never found. Some say he was the last to survive, and now flourishes with his children in the broken land of Sornieth. Others say he died in the fight, and even others say he left for another world, abandoning what had been left of his Flight. With the other Flights destroyed and remnants of the Shade lurking across the desolate land, the few Arcane survivors who escaped with their deity didn't stick around to find out, so we will never know.

And if a silence filled the air do you think that anyone would even care? Would they be aware... of the mounting snow...

As detailed as all this is, I have to question whether an Emperor is really capable of wiping out an ENTIRE flight. The dragonflights and their territories are on the scale of countries, and their clans are scattered around in all sorts of weird secluded places.

My perception of Emperors is that they're big, powerful, and hard to kill, but they're not likely to commit genocide against a flight– other beings besides deities (like dragon clans working together) have a chance of defeating them. Plus, this one only has three heads, so it's relatively small. I assumed it would take an 11-header before a deity would be forced into action, much less 5 of them. Imperials are common enough that, if all it took to end the world was a few dead ones left too close together, dragons would already have been wiped out.

If the Emperor was actually such a threat that the utter destruction of Light Flight was a possibility, Lightweaver would step in before much harm could be done.
