TOPIC | AH T/G difference??

I was looking to sell an eliminate, and I saw they were going for about 215g. Not bad, pretty normal. I decided to check how much it'd go for in treasure.
OVER 400KT.

This isn't just eliminates, too. I could brush it off as "eliminate economy is weird" but no. A stack of 4pt meat is 10g and 25kt. A Morph gene is 30g and 60kt.

Words cannot describe my confusion. The rate is still holding strong at 1g:1050t.
What on earth is happening???

Could I buy stacks of food in gems, sell them in treasure, trade the treasure for gems, and bathe in the riches?

EDIT: Yes, I can. I bought two gilded chests for 35g each and sold them for 45kt, and they both sold. Oh boy. Combining this with converting baldwin mats I'm set for life.

Oh yeah I've seen those a ton
I think it's just people undercut the LAH they see at any time, so if someone posted something in treasure and then people just started undercutting gems, the gem price ends up way lower.

you could but i don't know how many people prefer buying in treasure over gems

some items, i’d guess the difference is that people want to make gems quickly. i’ve noticed that difference with accents and apparel too. i think it’s because people list items in gems more often, undercut more, and sell faster as a result.

it's probably because more people sell for gems, so they undercut each other more. it's easier to jack up the prices in treasure since there's less competition.

Welcome to Arbitrage. The difference varies thanks to players who either don't compare prices, desire one currency more than another but do not wish to engage with people (like trading currency directly in Items for Sale), can't/won't do math, always put things up for the same price year after year or are only interested in a very quick sale.

Also, some items have inflated treasure or gem prices as a result of expired listings. If all the listings for an item expire then a new seller will often pick a number that makes them happy and list for that. When the expired listings are renewed that may also produce an imbalance.

Markets are tricky. I'm on another site where the forum ratio is around 1:1200 but the AH equivalent has been up around 1:2000. I've even sold items at a 1:5000 rate on that site (offering the identical item in both currencies) and had the treasure equivalent sell.

I want to live in Theory. Everything works there.

Have you checked the Gem MP for Gene and Breed scrolls before buying an AH listing from me ending in 5g?
Mostly seems to be people who don't move fluidly between gems and treasure, which is admittedly harder when one is literally at zero of one of the other.

Is it silly that people are trying to sell a familiar for 5 gems while I sell for 23,000 treasure? Yup. But if they cannot or will not swap treasure for gems, they're stuck, so I kind of get (no, not really. it's behavior with very limited vision).

Treasure is gems, gems are treasure. The market ratio moves, and in the long run it pays to be tapped into the knowledge of where the ratio seems to be going, but for people who's money flows out as it comes in, what does it matter? They won't lose anything on the ratio if they don't have any of it; though obviously at this level they have pet site poverty problems.

Taking a stroll through items that are big ticket, think millions of treasure, and usually the ratio is on the high end of the forum ratios, or worse. Plus, those treasure listings are usually passing the Auction House fee onto the buyers. But what can I say? Not learning and not dealing with things has always and will always cost a premium.

It’s easier to get treasure than gems. Therefore, treasure listings get bought faster than gem listing, bringing the LAH up for that currency faster. If you sell for the nonpremium currency may as well try to get your money's worth.

yep! also some players price items higher in treasure to still "get their money's worth" after ah treasure taxation

The biggest reason this happens is because treasure is easier for most people on site to earn, therefore more people are wanting to spend treasure as that's what they have.

So the prices between the items in gems vs treasure are actually about the same, however, all the lower priced ones get bought up. Which leaves the AH looking unbalanced like that.
