Hey guys! I quit Flight Rising (or at least took an extremely long, unannounced hiatus & sold off a lot of my items and dragons) a while ago... maybe 2 years or so? I've recently been wanting to get back into the site. I have fond memories of writing lore for my dragons, grinding the Coli, etc. I've tried to return to the site in the past, but with so many changes and new gene and breed releases, it feels overwhelming to catch up and get back into the swing of things. I came back today and started by changing my username so I no longer have a billion and half pinglists that I don't want to be a part of anymore. I'm thinking about switching clans as well, since I've been Arcane since 2014. But I'm not sure if I want to commit to doing that, or to which clan I would switch (thinking Earth, Shadow, or Wind - they were clans whose lore I admired in the past!)
Other than changing my username and possibly my Clan (feel free to suggest whether you think I should switch to one of those or stick with Arcane), do you guys have any ideas of how I could ease myself back into the site? Where should I start? If you've taken a break before and come back, what helped you get back into it?

First of all, welcome back ;3
Wow you are one of the “older players”, a lot changed since then that’s true, but don’t worry playing some days or in a week I think you will be almost catch up the basis things that changed, maybe try to look at all announcements and the game database, it will help a lot, also looking around in the Ah to get an idea of the economy and values of the items now :)
Maybe also reading some thread older her in discussion will help to get back the feeling :3
Earth is a good choice for clan since they have a lot of dominance and so a lot of nice helps ^^ (also the aesthetic is interesting)
Shadow (my flight) is cool for the aesthetic, since being a lot of players we don’t have that much of dominance, but I nice community (but I think all flights have a nice community X3)
Wind sounds cool too (for this I don’t know the dominancee XD)
Maybe try to read the flight lore and look at the map to get inspiration and see what seems more fitting for you :)
(I had also an almost 2 years break, I did all the things I wrote back up, didn’t change name and flight thou, but I hadn’t the pings problem and I feel at home in shadow :3)
Other tips are to look also in dragon share to get maybe inspiration to buy some dragons :3
I think the forums will help a lot to get back here, also trying to chat with people and ask if something isn’t clear ;)
Important is that you inform yourself about the value of some older items you maybe possess, the same for your old dragons
Fir the coli, now is the festival, a good time to grind ;3
Fir money it helps to go to trading posts everyday, bond with familiars and max out G&G, maybe also fodder trainging if you like it ^^
Maybe start some projects and breeding projects or try to find dream dragons you want to have ;)

wesleythewitch My advice is to just start looking for new dragons you like. There's been a ton of gene releases in the last few years so there's a lot of variety on the AH now.
Wind is great! Its my home flight and I've loved being a part of it for a long time (even when I was on vacations in other flights). Wind is a chill place with a lot of artists and I believe the discord is very active (though I don't get on it much). We rarely go for dom but occasionally we do profit pushes.
I've been to Shadow too. Shadow is basically just like Wind (except they are even more chill about dom than Wind is; rarely any profit pushes.) So if it comes down to a choice between Wind and Shadow choose the flight with the aesthetic you like best because they are very similar in all other aspects.
I haven't been to Earth yet but it's on my list! All I can tell you about it is that its a small flight that gets dom a lot. (Like every other week lol).
Another thing you can try and do to get started again is start writing some lore again. Or reading other people's lore. Sometimes that helps me. I have a lot of lore so if you're interested I can show you some of my work (my lair is huge and my lore is in random places but feel free to browse if you like. Also I have clan lore in the link on my sig too.)
I have a lot of fodder dergs too in my hibernal den so if you see one you like just let me know and you can have one. No pressure on that though, I just thought I'd offer.

Plus stay active on forums or make friends so that you can drop the odd question now and then and share goals and achievements. I have 5 close friends here and we each help each other and share in each others accomplishments .. it really helps.

I too just returned from hiatus. The two things that've smoothed my return are getting involved with the community (some very wonderful people over at the lucid dreaming hub who put up with my pings :) ) and DRAGON DRESSUP!
With that nice stretch of time behind, all emotional ties to questionable old fashions are GONE. Going on a shopping spree's motivation to stick around and go hard for the dragon capitalism.

While I didn't take a hiatus quite as long as you, I too recently came back to flight rising. I joined Arcane Authors to get my creative flow going, and I just peep into the forums now to see if I can add in my comments. Just take things slow, enjoy the new things, take part in the forums every so often, and I'm sure you'll get the handle of things. We can be old newbies together!
