As funny as watching a baby PC chomp rocks like its life depended on it would be... I mean, they just said the dragon 'consumes' the eggshell immediately. No one said they were chewing the shell. What if, like a snake, they just kind of. Swallowed it. And let the stomach do the hard work.

I like to think they use their horn to help poke out of their shell, and break the egg up into small pieces so its easier to swallow.

Earth eggs I can see being easy to consume, and creating a sturdy pearl. Maybe the Pearlcatchers take one of the smooth pebbles from their egg and push it to the side, eating the rest to build up a pearl from the piece pushed aside... Hmm, instant gems from rock crunching? Maybe Earth Pearlcatchers would make good jewelers...
